Cornel West and the Insular
World of the Obama-Hating Left

New York Magazine, by Jonathan Chait

Original Article

The political subculture of anti-Obama leftists has entered a phase by this point in the Obama presidency where the truth of its worldview is so well-established to its own adherents that it requires no exposition. Tom Frank, an anti-Obama leftist, interviews Cornel West, another anti-Obama leftist, in a conversation so deeply marinated in shared assumptions that, at one point, both interviewer and interviewee agree that nobody disagrees with them. Frank asks West, “Is there anybody who thinks he’s progressive enough today? West replies, “Nobody I know. Not even among the progressive liberals.” What about maybe the 61 million people who

Leftists talking about what other leftists said. Obama´s whole life revolved around being a socialist/marxist. One he became a politician all decisions, or indecisions, were politically motivated.

Nothing really new here.

The left lives in fantasy land. They do not have the slightest clue as to how business, politics, or the world really works. To the left, everything is about personal opinion. Everything flows from the center of "ME". Therefore, each leftist has his own idea of what Utopia, the land they believe exists and are striving to reach, looks like. The problem of course, is that Utopia doesn´t exist. No one has been able to define how it might be created or sustained without terrible "side effects", usually the elimination of free will.

In the case of West and his ilk, it is particularly funny to hear what their concept of power is, that when you are "in charge", you get to do whatever you want. In most cases that is absurd. Most people "in charge" are constrained by all sorts of rules, regulations, and other people at even higher levels. If you step too far outside the bounds you don´t remain "in charge" for very long.

I listen to a lot of Cornel West because he is an amusing entertainer. But if you strip his animated presentation from his actual rhetoric, you will discover, he really has nothing to say except LET´S GO SOCIALISM! He talks, but he never thinks. Ask Larry Summers. (but I do like to joke that Summers deserved West! West couldn´t have happened to a nicer guy than Summers. Same goes for Sharpton)

If I understand Chait, the Leftists critical of Obama are so because Obama hasn´t been Stalinist enough. Their dream seems to be one of a Soviet Union reconstituted within the US, with a large helping of Racial Revenge added to the brew. Enough to make your skin crawl. West smells a rat from the left but so do I from the right. I get these thoughts every so often. Must be indigestion.

Is "fundamental change" all Obama´s doing or is Obama a whipping boy?

As far as I know much of what he has championed is also what the elites in the Republican Party have wanted but had been thwarted on by their Conservative base.

Some big ones...

They were complaining about the high cost of healthcare and that the system was going broke. It was a crisis and had to be revamped. ObamaCare has now put the cost onto working Americans. The ones who had been on the government teat are moving to Citizen subsidized plans. It´s just a start but, in effect, the old system is being killed.

They wanted to push through the North American Union / Super Corridor and Conservative citizens stopped them. Obama is forging ahead without regard to Conservative´s (i.e. the Republican base´s) wishes. The border between the US and Mexico is melting just as the backers of the NAU wanted. As a result, populations are shifting northward.

The Mexican Container and Dry Goods Port that was a part of the Super Corridor is in the process today of doubling in size with a cost in the billions. Same with a modernized rail system from the port to Texas and on to Canada. I´m guessing the rail system will handle incoming Asian/Mexican goods and outgoing American and Canadian oil, etc.

He also rejuvenated the Security and Prosperity Partnership of North America that Republicans had been forced to abandon.

Now he will grant the wishes of the Republican elite by legitimizing millions of illegal workers by Labor Day.

He´s been a busy man. I´d say that some in the Republican Party are very happy with Obama´s "fundamental change". There are no Republican fingerprints and no mention of the NAU.

Four little words – “Don’t do stupid stuff” – define the Obama Doctrine in all its non-glory, and the key word in this matrix is “do.” It implies in effect that wisdom is measured in negative energy, that by declining to act one can stay out of trouble, that passivity is the key to a guilt-free existence and a serene and an untroubled world. Never use force, don’t threaten force, and no one will blame you for anything. Pull out of wars and your foes will stop fighting. Don’t send men to war and your hands will be clean. In the belief

The Travis County District Attorney’s office is doubling down on the widely mocked legal theories used to indict Governor Rick Perry. Rosemary Lehmberg’s office is now trying to get a grand jury to indict another prominent Texas conservative on the exact same charge—abuse of official capacity. The cases have nothing in common, other than a shameless and blackhearted prosecutor who has discovered a vague paragraph in state law that lets her bring charges against any Republican she wants for just about any reason. There is a slight check on that power—a grand jury—but the juries in heavily Democratic Travis County have shown

The United States’ top counterterrorism official warned that the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL or ISIS) is stealing some $1 million dollars a day to fund its operations and could have the ability to convince its American sympathizers to conduct terror strikes “here at home with no warning.” Matthew Olsen, director of the U.S. National Counterterrorism Center, recently delivered a candid and at times surprising assessment of ISIL’s capabilities and threat, concluding that the group “poses a direct and significant threat to us,” according to a transcript of his remarks before the Brookings Institution. When they can’t meet established performance standards, the left makes up excuses, lowers the standards, and, if necessary, revises history along the way. In economics, there’s hardly a better of example of this kind of deliberate responsibility avoidance than what has happened to the idea of “full employment.” Full employment is supposed to occur when “all … who want to work and are allowed to work are able to find employment.” The unemployment rate associated with full employment obviously can’t be zero, because there will always be people out of work who are voluntarily or involuntarily moving from one job to another.
