DOLAN SPRINGS, Ariz. - A 9-year-old girl accidentally killed an Arizona shooting instructor as he was showing her how to use an automatic Uzi, authorities said Tuesday. Charles Vacca, 39, of Lake Havasu City, died Monday shortly after being airlifted to University Medical Center in Las Vegas, Mohave County sheriff´s officials said. Vacca was standing next to the girl at the Last Stop outdoor shooting range in White Hills when she pulled the trigger and the recoil sent the gun over her head, investigators said. Authorities said the girl was at the shooting range with her parents. Her name was

I am 110% pro-2nd amendment, but this was an incredibly stupid move on the deceased instructor´s part.

That poor little girl. This is not the first instance of this happening - where someone foolishly allowed a youngster to fire an automatic weapon. I think it was back in 2008 where a young boy about this girl´s age was allowed to fire a Thompson... the results were tragic when the gun recoil brought the muzzle all the way back and the boy was killed.

What´s to be gained from this? I´m all for teaching gun safety - and 9 years old isn´t too young. But to allow someone that age to fire an auto? To me, there´s just no good reason. How awful.

We learned of a young boy, 9 years old, I think, who died a few years back firing a full-auto Uzi at the behest of his dad. The young lad was unable to control the firearm and ended up shooting himself in th head.

I´m not sure what´s worse: a 9 year old killing himself or a 9 year old who has to live with the fact that she killed another person, albeit unintentionally, for the rest of her life.

Mr. Charles Vacca, if accounts are correct, was an idiot and it may be better that he arranged his own demise sooner than later and maybe saved someone else´s life. The best thing Vacca can do for others is to serve as a warning and dissuade "gun instructors" from handing young kids who cannot control firearms full-auto weapons.

What´s pitiful is that this needs to be said at all.

Nine year olds ought to be taught to shoot with a single shot Davie Cricket .22 caliber rifle.

The instructor paid a fatal price for his bad judgement.

The parents are at fault also. Nine years old seems a bit young to be put in this position and it will follow her the rest of her life.

Sad for all involved. The article didnt say whether it was a full or semi auto. They said automatic, but that can mean anything or nothing.
Agree that kids should be started out small, like with .22 single shot rifles. Semi auto promotes laziness. Loading takes time, so you aim your shots more. Plus less likelihood of an accident because there isn´t always a live one in the chamber.
My 14 year old granddaughter is a dead eye with a .22, so we are ready to start her on .38. It starts with familiarization and safety, dry fire then real shooting.

Article does not give any information but even the little Uzi auto pistol is a hand full and a full sized carbine with an extended magazine is not a light weapon and who in there ever loving right mind gives a 9yo a full auto Uzi?

single shot .22 bold action is what you start with

beyond stupid, parents should be charged and range shut down on the grounds of Darwinian class stupidly

I saw the video. I saw the little girl with the weak little arms hold the gun without bracing the arms against her side. I´m surprised this instructor didn´t notice that. Anytime I ever fired my guns, I became a rigid statue.

Hundreds of environmentalists plan to "shut down" the New York Stock Exchange later Tuesday to protest the relationship between global warming and Big Business. Scores of protesters had already gathered in lower Manhattan early Tuesday for an event dubbed #FloodWallStreet. They planned to march a few blocks north to Wall Street and stage a "sit-in" until forced to leave. Their beef: the fossil fuels industry and other companies are profiting at the expense of the environment. The activists said they were willing to be arrested to drive home the link between global capitalism and worsening climate change.

President Barack Obama, stumping for the Democrats ahead of November´s congressional elections, has twice invoked Ronald Reagan´s seminal campaign question: "Are you better off than you were four years ago?" Framing the debate like that helped Reagan twice - in 1980 when he beat incumbent Jimmy Carter, and then again in 1984 when he won re-election during an economic upswing. But a similar message has failed to resonate for Obama primarily for one reason: while he stresses the economy has improved in almost every aspect on his watch, average family incomes have slipped. It was once said, “religion is designed to comfort the afflicted and to afflict the comfortable.” Jesus’ parables – short stories with moral lessons – were likewise designed to afflict, to draw us in but leave us uncomfortable. These teachings can be read as being about divine love and salvation, sure. But, their first listeners – first century Jews in Galilee and Judea – heard much more challenging messages. Only when we hear the parables as Jesus’ own audience did can we fully experience their power and find ourselves surprised and challenged today. Here are four examples of Jesus’ teachings that everybody gets wrong: 1.
