California Forces Farm
Workers into Union

Washington Free Beacon [DC], by Bill McMorris

A group of Fresno farm workers is accusing the state of California of forcing them into the United Farm Workers union. Workers at Fresno-based Gerawan Farms held an election in November to determine whether or not they would remain in the UFW. However, those ballots were never counted. The Agricultural Labor Relations Board (ALRB) seized the ballots until it could investigate UFW allegations of voter impropriety. “We direct the regional director to forward to the Board and serve on all parties to the election all challenged ballot declarations and all other evidence in his possession relevant to the eligibility of

Andrea Mitchell: Obama’s New Foreign

MSNBC’S Andrea Mitchell claimed President Barack Obama’s new cabal of foreign policy advisers “looks like a review of our guest list” on the liberal cable news network, with the AP’s Julie Pace explaining that the White House is trying to bring the commentators “into the fold.” Mitchell spoke Tuesday with Pace about Obama’s Monday night dinner with the DC foreign policy intelligentsia, presumably designed to help craft a strategy to contain an aggressive Russia and defeat ISIS in the Middle East. But as the MSNBC host ticked off the guests — including former Clinton aide Sandy Berger, longtime Democratic adviser

President Obama on Wednesday night entered a new phase of his presidency -- and he did it in a most Obama of ways. First, to what’s changed: He’s announcing a war, not ending one. He’s preparing to act without Congress, almost exactly a year after deferring to the legislative branch on a question of whether to use American military force. The president is rushing to catch up with and soothe an anxious, even frightened, public. He’s doing it while looking to reverse perceptions that he’s been slow to respond to metastasizing crises in the Middle East and beyond. “I can

On Wednesday’s “The Kelly File” following President Barack Obama’s prime time address to the nation about his policy to deal with ISIS in the Middle East, Fox News senior political analyst Brit Hume reacted to the speech. According to Hume, nothing really came unexpected from a policy standpoint and Obama was very guarded with the language he used on how he would deal with the ISIS threat. “Well, Megyn, nothing that we heard tonight was really beyond what we expected,” he said. “I was eager to describe him the threat because there´s a certain logic to these things. Since July, the Obama-backed Free Syrian Army, Al Nusra Front, and ISIS have paired together in order to fight the Syrian Assad regime. According to one Free Syrian Army commander, the combining of forces with ISIS was needed in order to achieve “the greater good.” Since around that time ISIS has paraded around the Caliphate in their brand new Toyota Hilux trucks. Paid for by US taxpayers. President Barack Obama said Wednesday night that he intends to pursue terrorists from the Islamic State of Iraq and al-Sham (ISIS) across the invisible border between Iraq and Syria if that´s necessary to defeat them. He also pledged to avoid putting tens of thousands of American boots on the ground there. In a four-point plan laid out Wednesday night the U.S. leader announced coming airstrikes in both countries, additional support for Iraqi army units, counter-terrorism activities to hamstring ISIS, and renewed humanitarian aid for victims of ISIS militants. ´This counter-terrorism campaign will be waged through a steady, relentless effort to

A new proposal for campaign finance reform would make Saturday Night Live’s political skits illegal, Republican Sen. Ted Cruz has warned. The Senate is debating a proposal to add a constitutional amendment allowing Congress reverse a 2010 Supreme Court decision and restore limits on corporate campaign spending. Republicans say the proposal, put forward by Dems, is an attack on free speech. Cruz, however, went one step further and connected the dots to NBC’s late-night sketch comedy show, and its exec producer Lorne Michaels. “Lorne Michaels could be put in jail under this amendment for making fun of any politician. Mr. Cathy, who died on Monday at 93, was by all appearances a humble Christian man from Georgia with little education who sold a simple sandwich: a

Churchill came under intense scrutiny and was fired by the University of Colorado at Boulder. What concerned Kelly most in the first part of the interview was that “little Eichmanns” comment, the argument being that Eichmann played a role in horrible atrocities even though he didn’t directly carry out the Final Solution, which he views as similar to the financial

Arguments for a universal basic income (UBI) — in which everyone without exception would receive an equal stipend — have flourished in policy-centric areas of the internet, including The Week. Advocates of UBI see it as a blunter, more effective means of reducing poverty and shrinking the inequality gap. But even if UBI proponents are right on the merits, Tyler Cowen argues that the politics of the issue are not favorable. Under
