Why Obama shouldn´t
act alone on immigration

USA Today, by Editorial

Original Article

President Obama has done his share to fix the nation´s broken immigration system. He backed comprehensive changes along the lines of those championed by former president George W. Bush. He proposed solutions to the crisis of children from Central America showing up at the U.S. border. And, while waiting for Congress to act, his administration has vigorously enforced current law, deporting more than 2 million people who came here unlawfully. None of this has gotten him anywhere. House Republicans ignored a balanced and bipartisan immigration overhaul passed by the Senate. And Congress left town for its summer recess without acting on the

Comments:
I knew better to even think USA Today would be reasonable and fair. After they bash "the intransigence of Republicans in the House" they still say congress is necessary. Isn´t that wonderful. s/o Of course Republicans will fall for the usual mantra that in order to win they "must court immigrant voters." How about courting ALL Americans?? What a concept.

The number of foreign-born individuals holding jobs in the United States hit a recorded high of 24,639,000 in August, according to data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS). The BLS has been tracking the number of foreign-born workers annually since 2005 and monthly since 2007. The BLS does not distinguish between foreign-born individuals who are in the United States legally and those who are here illegally. “The foreign born are those who reside in the United States but who were born outside the country or one of its outlying areas to parents who were not U.S. citizens,” the BLS explains. “The

BLOOMINGTON, Minn. - Amir Meshal has a fascinating history. He´s originally from New Jersey, but back in 2007 he was detained and interrogated by the FBI in Kenya after escaping from Somalia. Somehow, his travels brought him to Minnesota, and to a mosque in Bloomington, which kicked him out this summer. Friday prayers bring hundreds to the Al-Farooq Youth and Family Center, which is perhaps the largest mosque in the Twin Cities. But not everyone is welcome -- not after Meshal began attending prayer and hanging out earlier this year. In June, the center called police and had Meshal, 31,

The top Democrat on the House Intelligence Committee on Friday said new allegations that U.S. commandos were ordered to “stand down” during the 2012 attack in Benghazi, Libya, aren’t supported by findings from House and Senate investigators. Five commandos who survived the Benghazi attack, which claimed the lives of Ambassador Christopher Stevens and three other Americans, made the allegation in a new book, accusing the CIA station chief of delaying a rescue mission. Rep. Dutch Ruppersberger (D-Md.) said lawmakers never came across evidence indicating the station chief had told his team to “stand down” and abort a

Two former Obama cabinet officials have declined to testify before the House Oversight Committee in its probe of the White House political office. The news came late Friday in an angry statement from Chairman Darrell Issa (R-Calif.), who blasted the officials for [shrinking] "from an examination of the facts." "The White House´s efforts to reconfigure its political office does not inoculate it from oversight of any prior wrongdoing or efforts to rectify these legal violations," Issa said. Issa sought out former Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius and former Labor Secretary Hilda Solis last month because both were accused of violating

In response, co-host Kimberly Guilfoyle asked Beckel if he was joking, sparking a heated back and forth before Beckel made a final push to advance his argument. “I have people that I think scientifically have a good argument other people say they have a good argument,

In the face of a White House backtrack on executive amnesty, National Council of La Raza spokeswoman Janet Murguia pressed President Obama to “fulfill his promise” to approximately six million illegal immigrants, declaring that “we’re done waiting.” Murguia spoke with MSNBC’s Jose Diaz-Balart on Friday about Obama’s attempt to give Senate Democrats cover by putting off a promised amnesty for illegal immigrants until after the 2014 election. The White House has said for months that action would come by the end of the summer. “We, as a community, expect him to fulfill his promises,” she said. “The president, in March,

When pressed about the staggering increases in regulatory burden under his administration, President Obama says not to worry because the benefits exceed the costs. But a new and revealing set of charts from the U.S. Chamber of Commerce highlights the shameless deception used to calculate the bulk of these purported benefits. In Charting Federal Costs and Benefits, Chamber researchers analyzed the benefits calculations of the Environmental Protection Agency, which is responsible for the largest portion of the most costly regulations in recent years. What they found obliterates the president’s claims that sky-high regulatory costs are justified.
