Burger King buying Tim Hortons

MIAMI — Burger King says it struck a deal to buy Tim Hortons Inc. for about $11 billion, a move that would give the fast-food company a stronger foothold in the coffee and breakfast market. The corporate headquarters of the new company will be in Canada, which stands to help lower Burger King´s taxes. Such tax inversions have been criticized by President Barack Obama and Congress because they mean a loss of tax revenue for the U.S. government. Burger King and Tim Hortons said the chains will continue to be run independently and that Burger King will still operate out

The US can not tax the foreign earnings of foreign companies. They still tax the earnings made in the US by foreign companies.
Flat Tax or Fair Tax systems would bring all that foreign money back home. Our present system repels money.

If our tax dollars were used in anything close to a sensible manner, nobody would complain. But 40% of income squandered supporting terrorist groups, welfare and unemployment and other “social welfare” that promote dependence. “drug rehab” programs that keep people on drugs of abuse rather than helping them regain independence and sanity, people would pay them without complaint, as long as they could before going bankrupt. With the present system, those companies that remain are the foolish ones.
Anyone who can’t recognize this obvious fact must be either a moron, delusional or a democrat, but i repeat myself.

All firms have the right and duty to AVOID taxes

This is separate from tax EVASION, which is illegal.

The real problem is the tax law in the first place. The liberals who complain wrote the law to be complicated to maintain their power.

The biggest complainers about BK et al is that while these firms are FOLLOWING the law, these firms are evading the POWER of the complainers.

That cannot be tolerated.

Suddenly, a spate of Republicans have come out in favor of over-the-counter contraception—putting Democrats in a tight spot politically. Making birth-control pills available without a prescription has become an unlikely midterm-election issue. Even more surprising is that the idea is mostly being pushed by Republicans. Democrats are in the unusual position of pushing back hard, insisting the move would actually limit access and breathlessly reminding voters, We´re the ones who´ve cared about women all along! The bickering over the details about how such a plan might work and whose concern for women is more sincere obscures a pretty amazing fact:

Some 70% of Americans do not designate the Obama administration as friendly toward religion, according to a Pew poll released Monday. The share of Americans that sees the Obama administration as friendly toward religion took a dramatic drop to 30% from 37% in 2009. The percentage that rates the administration hostile to religion increased from 17% in 2009 to 29% in the latest poll. These findings come from a new survey by the Pew Research Center, conducted Sept. 2-9 among 2,002 U.S. adults. Some of this suspicion of Obama seems related to the administration’s perceived hostility toward religious liberty, manifested

This has been a big year for gay rights in America. In state after state, either judges or voters have affirmed the constitutionality of same-sex marriage, and public support for gay unions reached an all-time high. But there´s still a tension between the acknowledgement of gay rights and the acceptance of gayness itself. A new Pew poll on religion in public life found that exactly half of respondents said they consider "homosexual behavior" sinful, a five-percentage-point increase since May 2013. This view is most prominent among white evangelicals and black protestants; more than three-quarters of each group said they see

It was once said, “religion is designed to comfort the afflicted and to afflict the comfortable.” Jesus’ parables – short stories with moral lessons – were likewise designed to afflict, to draw us in but leave us uncomfortable. These teachings can be read as being about divine love and salvation, sure. But, their first listeners – first century Jews in Galilee and Judea – heard much more challenging messages. Only when we hear the parables as Jesus’ own audience did can we fully experience their power and find ourselves surprised and challenged today. Here are four examples of Jesus’ teachings that everybody gets wrong: 1.
