Senator: Boycott Burger King
as it eyes move to Canada

CBS News, by Stephanie Condon

Original Article

As Burger King eyes moving its headquarters to Canada to lower its tax bill, a Democratic senator is recommending a boycott of the burger joint. Instead, Sen. Sherrod Brown, D-Ohio, said hamburger lovers should try out two fast food chains that haven´t "abandoned" the United States -- White Castle and Wendy´s. "Burger King has always said ´Have it Your Way´; well my way is to support two Ohio companies that haven´t abandoned their country or customers," Brown said in a statement. Burger King is considering purchasing the Canadian-based business Tim Hortons in a move known as an "inversion" -- when a company

Sorry ... no more room on my boycott list.

Besides ... that Scarborough guy on MSNBC beat her to it on his show today:

MSNBC host Joe Scarborough explained that Americans should boycott Burger King if the fast food giant merges with Canadian fast food chain Tim Hortons and shuffles corporate profits outside of the United States.

Other than Sen Brown being a major part of the tax problem, I suppose it´s just a coincidence both the mentioned companies are based in the Senator´s state.

For the Administration borders are irksome anachronisms when slowing the invasion of looters from the south. But, somehow they´re sacrosanct for a corporation to operate within.

Brown needs to realize that the climate that these companies find so inclement is a climate of his making.

Any boycott would be misdirected. The people that would be hurt are the franchisees and employees that actually own and work at the outlets . They are in your neighborhood for the most part.

I don´t eat at Burger King just because they are really, really nasty.

But I can´t really blame them for this move. They will still pay sales taxes and property taxes wherever they have a restaurant. So the cities they are located in will still get their tax revenues.

But the feds will feel the pinch of their anti-business policies once again.

And I´ll stick with Chic-fil-A when I want fast food...

Burger King is a big non-union employer in Ohio. Senator Sherrod Brown (D) is a staunch supporter of unions. Unions have a history of providing generous campaign donations to Democrats.

Sherrod Brown’s staff was instrumental in bussing senior citizens to Canada to save money on prescriptions. While prescriptions were being filled, senior citizens were spending money in casinos.

Qua speech, Barack Obama’s address Wednesday on the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria was surprisingly terrible: a disorganized mess, insincere and unconvincing. To appreciate just how bad and bizarre it was, compare the president’s speech announcing a new air campaign in Iraq and Syria to Dwight Eisenhower’s 1958 statement on his decision to intervene in Lebanon with 14,000—14,000!—troops. The statement contains no chest-thumping about America’s leadership in science and medicine. No pivot to the auto industry and medical research. President Obama just announced that he is bringing a counter-terrorism strategy to an insurgency fight. He was at pains to repeat the phrase “counter-terror” four times in a short speech. Noting that ISIL is not a state (partly because the international community thankfully does not recognize it), he declared, “ISIL is a terrorist organization, pure and simple. And it has no vision other than the slaughter of all who stand in its way.” Neither of those sentences, unfortunately, is true.
