Islamic State militants
capture key Syrian air base*

Daily Mail (UK), by Dan Bloom

Original Article

Posted By:Drive, 8/25/2014 8:38:18 AM

Islamic State militants have seized a major Syrian air base, wiping out the last government stronghold in a province dominated by jihadists. The extremists won a week-long battle today to capture the sprawling Tabqa base 25 miles from their stronghold in Raqqa, reportedly killing dozens of soldiers in the process. The base was reportedly one of the military´s largest facilities in the region, with several warplane squadrons, helicopters, tanks, artillery and ammunition.

The JV´s seem to be causing a lot of ´work place violence´ at that air base. Wonder when Obozo will read about it?

Just a reminder:

The air base is approximately 620 miles from the Syria-Israel border.

There´s really not enough information to analyze the possibilities.

It´s probably coincidental but Hamas has increased its barrages into Israel over the weekend and the IAF (as Netanyahu promised) is retaliating with more force than ever. Is Gaza attempting to run Israel short on weapons in case ISIL/ISIS/IS decides to join the fray? Pressure must be brought to bear on Obama to release requested weapons and ordinance in a timely manner. The time for petulance is long past.

The live Gaza transmission tower is, apparently, out of service. It went off the air in the middle of one of the IAF´s big air strikes. Given the number of Gaza´s overnight salvoes listed in the JPost, IAF action was probably ratcheted up quite a bit today.

Why would the Syrians leave any flyable aircraft at an airbase that was under ground attack by their enemies?

Besides the usable ammunition that ISIS is said to have captured they probably also came into possession of a lot of junk.

A large section of the Aral Sea has completely dried up for the first time in modern history, according to Nasa. Images from the US space agency’s Terra satellite released last week show that the eastern basin of the Central Asian inland sea – which stretched across Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan and was once the fourth largest in the world – was totally parched in August. Images taken in 2000 show an extensive body of water covering the same area. “This is the first time the eastern basin has completely dried in modern times,” Philip Micklin, a geographer emeritus from Western Michigan University

At least since the early part of the 20th century, aside from oil, the Arab world has produced and exported two products. It has produced essentially no technology, medicine or anything else in the world of science. It has almost no contributions to world literature, art or to intellectual development. According to the most recent United Nations Arab Human Development Reports (2003-2005), written by Arab intellectuals, Greece, with a population of 11 million, annually translates five times more books from English than the entire Arab world, population 370 million. Nor is this a new development. The total number of books translated into

Hispanic voters were a key part of the coalition that elected President Obama, but lately the demographic has soured on him. Obama’s weekly approval among Hispanics dipped to 45 percent during the period ended Sept. 28, according to Gallup, and it has remained below 50 percent for the past five weeks. While support for Obama is higher among Hispanics than the overall population, the cushion he had is diminishing as he enters the second half of his presidency. In early 2013, around the beginning of his second term, Gallup reported that Hispanic approval of Obama was 74 percent, compared with 51 percent

The Secret Service is a joke. That´s harsh, I know – and it´s unfair to Secret Service agents who unflinchingly risk their lives for the president and for their country. But it´s true, and it needs to be fixed. Here´s how. First, fire director Julia Pierson. Her agency covered up a 2011 incident in which shots were fired at the White House, when one of President Obama´s daughters could have been killed. Her agency allowed a mentally ill Iraq war veteran to rampage through the White House with a knife. Her agency permitted a security contractor with a gun and three

In educational conversation, when you mention the words “charter schools,” people tend to either love them or hate them. Unfortunately, either way, the handwriting is on the smart board. A recent survey found only 46 of 925 high-poverty New York City public schools, where most students are minorities, had even a meager 50 percent passing rate. That in itself is a big story, but the bigger story here is that of the 46 schools, 23 were charters. Of course, the United Federation of Teachers and UFT-funded parent groups are screaming foul. They say that charters can be selective in their student population by

With quick and coordinated action by some of its top doctors, Nigeria, Africa’s most populous country, appears to have contained its first Ebola outbreak, the United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said Tuesday. As the epidemic rages out of control in three nations only a few hundred miles away, Nigeria is the only country to have beaten back an outbreak with the potential to harm many victims in a city with vast, teeming slums. “For those who say it’s hopeless, this is an antidote — you can control Ebola,” said Dr. Thomas R. Seven in 10 Americans support air strikes against Islamic State insurgents in Syria, but far fewer back sending U.S. forces to Iraq as advisers – evidence in a new ABC News/Washington Post poll of the political risks of returning U.S. soldiers to that volatile region. Fifty-three percent support sending U.S. forces to train Iraqi government troops and coordinate air strikes against Islamic State positions. But that’s comparatively modest in terms of support for military action, and 17 percentage points behind the public’s endorsement of air strikes. See PDF with full results, charts and tables here. President Barack Obama has taken a lot of flack since his Sunday night “60 Minutes” interview, in which he blamed the intelligence community for his failure to tackle the threat posed by the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria. WASHINGTON — The Senate’s minority whip is confident about Republicans being the majority in the 114th Congress — if conservatives can set aside differences and work to combat the massive influx of donor cash that has Democratic campaigns ahead in the money race. Only in the majority, Sen. And only by realizing the gravity of the battle for November, he argues, can Republicans relegate Harry Reid (D-Nev.)

Sacramento, Calif. - Gov. A national coalition of plastic bag manufacturers immediately said it would seek a voter referendum to repeal the law, which is scheduled to take effect in July 2015. Under SB270, plastic bags will be phased out of large grocery stores starting next summer and convenience stores and pharmacies in 2016. The Obama administration found itself scrambling on Tuesday to defend President Barack Obama for his lackluster 42% attendance record on daily intelligence briefings, a finding from a new report issued by the non-partisan Government Accountability Institute (GAI). When asked about the GAI revelation on Fox News, State Department spokeswoman Jen Psaki appeared flustered and unprepared. "Well, I have no validation of those statistics," said Psaki. "There are a range of ways that you can get your intelligence briefings on the road, in the White House, and I know that he receives those whenever he can."
