Worldview: Sooner rather than

How do you deal with a hideous terrorist group that has morphed into a Mideast state with a huge war chest and an aggressive army - and beheads an American journalist? Since the gruesome slaughter of James Foley, U.S. officials are debating whether the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS) can be contained or must be rolled back in the near term. President Obama appears wedded to a strategy of containment - so far. (Snip) Its leaders have made clear that they will focus on Western and American targets once they consolidate their territorial gains. ISIS is training thousands

The US has failed in this part of the world, primarily because we have western values the requires us to replace the infrastructure and political systems we break when we defeat a foe. IF/WHEN we decide to eliminate ISIS we must put aside all attitudes of how a victorious conqueror treats the vanquished. We have no obligation to rebuild anything we break, if we leave the region in the stone age, so be it.

ROE´s must be changed to protect our people including the definition of a "civilian" (if he is in a hospital housing command and control elements of the terrorist savages he is NOT a "civilian").

Just wipe them off the face of the earth with a ferocity that ensures they never want us to return, then just leave them to whatever fate they work out among themselves.

There are more Europeans than Americans, so why is the heavy lifting always left to American kids. If Europeans won´t sacrifice equally, to hell with them.

Well, Trudy, I have seen lots of articles from other countries advocating the same thing. I would like to remind you that we are winding down a long engagement in the Middle East in which your paper, and all those foreighn papers spent a great deal of time telling us how terrible our country was.

So, how about this, we let the snooty folks in Europe show us how it´s done? They can show us how to clean up their own Islamic immigration nightmare, and they can show us how to defeat ISIS.

I am tired of them playing Lucy with the football, asking us to lead the charge, then stabbing us in the back. I would be happy if we just focus on cleaning up our own backyard for a while.

I am not advocating isolationism, I just think we need a better set of priorities. Let the rest of the world handle their own problems for a while. We need to clean out some Marxists and radical Islamists of our own.

The USA should not be paying to build anything up in Iraq and Syria. Iraq has enough money coming in from oil sales to build up their own country. Syria has already been blown apart before the USA ever got there. What the US would be bombing in Syria are essentially ruins.

The most violent ISIS fighters are said to be British males of Middle Eastern origin, so it falls upon the British to take them out and the British have special forces that are very qualified to do that.

When the media claims that the ISIS terrorists comprise a large number of British men they are talking about men who are Muslims of Middle Eastern or Southwest Asian origin, who were either born in the UK or immigrated there. These days when a person is identified as being British he or she could originate from foreign population groups anyplace in the world who have been residing in the UK. They are usually not related to the historic native Christian population groups, English, Welsh, Scottish or Irish of the four so-called home countries that make up the British Isles.

If ISIS were to attack Jordan the British military would be there on the ground immediately to defeat any such attack you can bet on that, in fact they may already have a Royal Marine Commando Regiment there. When moving across the desert to attack Jordan or Saudi Arabia it would be like they are moving across the surface of the Moon and would easily be obliterated by modern airpower.

An investigation was underway Tuesday after Iraqi military pilots mistakenly gave food, water and ammunition to enemy ISIS militants instead of their own soldiers, a senior security official and a brigadier told NBC News. The supplies were supposed to help besieged Iraqi army officers and soldiers who had been fighting Islamist extremists for a week in Saglawyah and the village of Al-Sijar in the country’s western province of Anbar. “Some pilots, instead of dropping these supplies over the area of the Iraqi army, threw it over the area that is controlled by ISIS fighters,” said Hakim Al-Zamili, a Sadrist lawmaker

The Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (Isil) made fresh advances in both Syria and Iraq on Monday, in defiance of the escalating United States-led bombing campaign against the jihadist group. For almost two months now, Tomahawk missiles and F22 Raptor jet fighters have bombarded the bases, strategic assets and front-line positions of Isil jihadists. But the group’s encroachment on Baghdad is steadily progressing and it is close to seizing a key Kurdish village on the Syria-Turkey border. WASHINGTON — The U.S. military is spending as much as $10 million per day on its new air war against Islamic State militants in Iraq and Syria, a relative pittance compared with the hundreds of millions it spent fighting every day in Afghanistan in 2013. The costs in Iraq and Syria will escalate substantially if, as President Obama and Pentagon officials have said, the new war lasts for years, according to military analysts.
