The Growing Blue-State Diaspora
New York Times, by Robert Gebeloff & David Leonhardt

Original Article

Californians have moved to Colorado and Nevada. Massachusetts natives have moved to New Hampshire. New Yorkers have moved to North Carolina and Virginia — and, of course, have continued moving to Florida. Over the last few decades, residents of many traditionally liberal states have moved to states that were once more conservative. And this pattern has played an important role in helping the Democratic Party win the last two presidential elections and four of the last six. The growth of the Latino population and the social liberalism of the millennial generation may receive more attention, but the growing diaspora of blue-state

I was weed whacking along my creek last summer here in the back woods of Appalachia when a car with New York plates pulled up. Some guy jumped out and asked for directions to a nearby park. His words were benign enough, but his tone of voice sounded like a threat.
I gave him the proper directions because it was the right thing to do, but remember hoping he would leave the state as soon as he was finished with his mugging or whatever he was here for.

Being in the construction materials business in Colorado during the 90s, we thought it was great that the influx of Californians were fueling our building boom. They were selling their $75,000 houses for 300-500 thousand and coming to Colorado to buy our $75,000 houses, banking the balance. Little did we know (and should have realized, they bring their politics and liberal agenda with them. Now, Colorado is pretty much ruined, going down the sewer just like California IMHO, much like #1 says.

Washington State was a target of these east coast vermin beginning in the 70´s. It was destroyed by them before it ever got on your radar with brain-dead marijuana. Democrat Destroyers foul their own nests with filth wherever they are and then move on to foul a new nest. Texas will pay a heavy price for recruiting California businesses to go there. Democrats are the founding destroyers of this Republic... they are not Americans... they are the root of our American evil.

As a conservative that left California for Arizona I observe that Liberals don´t connect their voting habits with the outcomes. The city of Tucson is on a death spiral but voters keep electing Democrats to the council and the Democrats do everything they can to drive business out of town. One would think that simple observation would suggest the need for change. No way.

The voters seem happy that Tucson worked hard to keep the F35 out of Davis Monthan (noisy, you know and... gasp military). Voters delighted in the fact that Tucson turned away a major campus of Grand Canyon University (Christian values, you know). The streets are a mess, you have to drive out of the city to shop (can´t have a new Walmart, no way).

The area around the University is ok except if you want a job. Oh, but we have a trolley! how exciting.

Having voted their original states into filthy, crime-infested, overcrowded, over-regulated, overpriced, economically depressed hellholes, which even they can no longer wallow in in comfort, they are heading off to nice places, which they will then turn into replicas of the liberal hells they left behind.

Have you seen West Palm Beach lately? It has been turned into Queens with palm trees.

Great question #11. Unfortunately, the answer is that the most conservative people left in California are liberal by everyone else´s standard.

I have met plenty of transplants from California that complain about the liberal policies and laws there, but still only vote for Democrats. They just refuse to connect the dots. It is indeed a scourge on the state.

Now that we have legal pot, the floodgates are open. I hope California legalizes it soon, very soon.

They came to California from elsewhere. They can darned well go back or go elsewhere. Most critics of California don´t take the trouble to read California´s political history. It was not always a blue state.

And they forget about Ronald Reagan, Pete Wilson, Deukmejian. Only a handful of governors were Dems over 100 years and two of them were Browns, father and son, serving repeat terms. Throw in the ill-fated Gray Davis and Culbert Olson, and that is it. And that is a statewide vote.

That said, this is the NYT´s attempt to make the Dems look stronger than they are. A feel good for next November?

True story: I was waiting at the butcher counter one day at a grocery store in North Carolina. Set up next to me was a little older lady who was there daily giving out free juice samples.

A lady, a customer, walked right up to her while I was standing there and said "I´m in here almost every day and you never offer me a sample. Is it because I´m from New York?"

The juice lady replied "Oh no honey. Let me give you a hug."

Not sure the lady from New York wanted a hug with her juice sample that day. But she got one. It´s all good.

We won´t miss them. Maybe we can get back to the good old days when California voted Republican:

With 55 currently, the state has more than 10% of all available electoral votes. While growth in the Latino population has helped make California a reliably Democratic state today, this was not always the case. In fact, from 1952 through 1988, Republicans won every presidential election except the landslide loss of Barry Goldwater in 1964.

http://www.270towin.com/states/California

Unlike other "traditionally" blue states, California was not always blue.

The NYT was trying to make downhearted Dems feel better, not to get us fighting with one another. Though they like that a lot, too.

Tom and Jerry cartoons on television are being accompanied by a warning that they may depict scenes of "racial prejudice". The classic cat and mouse cartoons, some made more than 70 years ago, carry a warning for subscribers to Amazon Prime Instant Video. There have been claims of racist stereotyping in the depiction of a black maid in the cartoon series. Amazon´s warning says such prejudice was once "commonplace" in US society. Tom and Jerry, once a staple of children´s television on British television, is being presented with a cautionary note about "ethnic and racial prejudices".

Americans love animals, even cats. Eight million stray dogs and cats find their way into animal shelters every year, and the lucky ones are adopted into a warm home with a loving family. Shelters are operated by small charities usually called “humane societies,” whose good deeds are funded by private generosity. The Humane Society of the United States trades on the good of others to finance a radical agenda. In May, the Humane Society and a handful of other radical animal-rights groups had to write a $15.8 million check to the Ringling Bros. Barnum & Bailey Circus for damages done. The
