U.S. strikes in Syria against
Islamic State would be hindered
by intelligence gaps

Washington Post, by Greg Miller

A U.S. offensive in Syria against the radical Islamist group that beheaded an American journalist would likely be constrained by persistent intelligence gaps and an inability to rely on fleets of armed drones that have served as the Obama administration’s signature weapon against terrorist networks elsewhere, U.S. officials said. The Pentagon has conducted daily surveillance flights along Iraq’s border with Syria in recent weeks as part of a push to bolster U.S. intelligence on the Islamic State without crossing into Syrian airspace and risking the loss of aircraft to that nation’s air defenses, officials said. The CIA has also expanded

Of course there are intel gaps; there are always intel gaps and always will be. Intel is meant to reduce uncertainty, not offer a 100% guarantee. When is Intel going to stop being the scapegoats for lousy or nonexistent decision making by the beltway leadership?

While NFL running back, Adrian Peterson may now be facing the prospect of permanent disbarment from the league, due to multiple allegations of child abuse, it would appear that he was once awarded by a group that helps protect children from abuse. In 2012 Peterson was the recipient of the Ed Block Courage Award. The award, is described as honoring those in the NFL players who are role models and who “exemplify commitments to the principles of sportsmanship and courage.” According to the Ed Block Foundation: “The Ed Block Courage Award recipient symbolizes professionalism, great strength and dedication. An unusual Republican proposal makes medical sense, kind of. Let it never be said that Republicans are fighting a Forever War on contraception. In several states, Republican candidates are calling for more birth control—on demand and sold right next to the Tylenol. "The pill ought to be available over the counter, round the clock, without a prescription,” says Colorado’s Cory Gardner in a new campaign ad. For the GOP candidates supporting this measure, it’s a way to woo women voters while sidestepping Obamacare’s mandate that companies cover birth control on their health-insurance plans—and that health plans offer the pills without

The 22 senators who voted against arming Syrian rebels in the continuing resolution came from each party and had different reasons for their objections. Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.), who may be contemplating a run for the White House, told MSNBC he voted “no” because “I do not want to see this become a war between east and west, a war between Christianity and Islam, a war between the United States and ISIS.” “The bottom line is, we will not be successful until the countries of the Middle East themselves become engaged and are prepared to take on this terrible organization

The presumed presidential candidate´s speeches are long on pablum and short on content. This is the campaign we´re in for. Everywhere Hillary Clinton goes, a thousand cameras follow. Then she opens her mouth, and nothing happens. Clinton made a much-ballyhooed appearance in Iowa over the weekend, giving a speech widely noted for its substancelessness. She “had no explicit message of her own,” Politico noted, while The Economist pronounced it “underwhelming.” MSNBC’s Joe Scarborough was so frustrated by Clinton’s lack of verve that he went on an extended rant about it, proclaiming, “I know her and like her, but she puts

At least eight Ebola aid workers and journalists were reportedly murdered and dumped in a latrine in a remote village in Guinea in a frightening example of the growing distrust locals have of foreigners coming to help stem the mushrooming health crisis. These deaths are believed to be the first resulting from resistance to international efforts to curb the Ebola outbreak in the region, Reuters reported. Other aid teams have been forced to turn back by crowds in several locations, and a treatment center in Monrovia, Liberia was attacked and looted. Villagers in an area near the city of Nzerekore

Based on interviews with DNC staffers -- both former and current -- the piece described Wasserman Schultz as something of a modern-day Tracy Flick: over-eager, disloyal and not shy about promoting her ambitions.
