Islamic State´s bootleg petro-state
may prove unsustainable

Al Jazeera [Doha, Qatar], by Michael Pizzi

Original Article

Posted By:LittleHoodedMonk, 8/23/2014 11:51:38 AM

With up to $2 million in daily revenue from black market oil, the Islamic State insurgency not only holds sway over swathes of Syria and Iraq but has also begun to lay the foundations to become a small petro-state. Such is the extent of the threat posed by the network that Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel on Thursday called the group “as sophisticated and well-funded as any group that we’ve seen” and “beyond just a terrorist group.” But even as Western military leaders ratchet up rhetoric about the Islamic State, considered to be the world's wealthiest extremist network, analysts say the fledgling petro-state is already running into problems.

Comments:
While this may seem like a drop in the bucket of oil revenues, for IS or Al Qaeda, this kind of money adds up quickly to support their terrorism. It needs to be stopped, immediately. The possible link with Assad, who they are fighting against, is breathtaking.

A lot of this article is propaganda.
For one thing, ISIS is extracting 2 million BARRELS a day from its 7 oil fields and 2 refineries.
It is selling the oil at a greatly discounted rate: $20-to-$60/barrel as opposed to legal oils selling at $104/barrel.
Thus ISIS is taking in NOT $2 million a day, but more like $40 million a day (or more.)
We need to go after their supply lines....just like in a real war.

So the debacle is coming thanks to the enviro-waco eco-terrorists. What are we going to do when the middle east, venezuela and russia decide not to sell oil to us any more?

If ISIS is greatly helped by black market oil sales it would seem logical to attack anything that can move bulk oil within their territory.

That would be trucks, I doubt there is any rail transport. Neither tanker trucks or makeshift oil pipelines are easily concealed.

So far and AFAIK aerial attacks have been used only against explicitly identified ISIS positions.

Air travelers on Sunday can likely expect further delays and cancellations at Chicago airports as the FAA labored to return traffic to normal after an arson fire Friday at the agency´s Aurora radar facility wreaked havoc in the nation´s air travel system. Although the FAA said Saturday that technicians were working to complete a "damage assessment and timeline for restoration of services" at the Aurora facility, the agency did not specify when the air traffic control center, one of the nation´s busiest, would be fully operational. Flight cancellations and delays continued to slow travelers Saturday.

Syrian militant group al-Nusra Front has denounced US-led air strikes as "a war against Islam". In an online statement, the al-Qaeda-linked group called on jihadists around the world to target Western and Arab countries involved. It comes as the US and other nations widened air strikes against Islamic State (IS) fighters in Iraq and Syria. The Pentagon said jets hit the Syrian city of Raqqa on Saturday as well as IS positions near the Turkish border. Kurdish fighters have been defending the Kurdish town of Kobane on the Syrian side of the border since an IS advance sent about 140,000 civilians fleeing to Turkey.

Seattle cancer researchers are hoping that they will be able to use scorpion venom to fight deadly brain cancer through a new product called "Tumor Paint." For the first time, the Food and Drug Administration has approved the product, developed by Blaze Bioscience, for study in human trials in the U.S. During the phase one trial, the tumor paint will be used to on an estimated 21 people with a glioma, or tumor in the brain or spine. In theory the "paint" will light up the tumor with special florescent molecules that will allow surgeons to then remove cancerous tissue more effectively and safely. The tumor paint is created by utilizing a protein

Washington - The parents of Michael Brown said Saturday in an interview with The Associated Press they were unmoved by the apology of the Ferguson, Missouri, police chief weeks after their unarmed 18-year-old son was killed by a police officer. Brown´s mother, Lesley McSpadden, called for Chief Tom Jackson to be fired, and his father, Michael Brown Sr., said rather than an apology, they would rather see Officer Darren Wilson arrested for the death of their son on Aug. 9. "An apology would be when Darren Wilson has handcuffs, processed and charged with murder," Brown Sr. said. The young man, who was black,

Police in Oklahoma said Saturday they´ve interviewed the man who allegedly beheaded a 54-year-old woman at his former workplace. The Sahara is a harsh, dry climate, and even though it only averages three inches of rain per year, it churns out dust storms that spread far across the Atlantic Ocean and North America. The ISS was over Libya at the time, and this storm reached hundreds of miles across the Sahara. We’re being had. Again. For six years, President Obama has endeavored to will the country into accepting two pillars of his alternative national-security reality. First, he claims to have dealt decisively with the terrorist threat, rendering it a disparate series of ragtag jayvees. Second, he asserts that the threat is unrelated to Islam, which is innately peaceful, moderate, and opposed to the wanton “violent extremists” who purport to act in its name. Now, the president has been compelled to act against a jihad that has neither ended nor been “decimated.” The jihad, in fact, has inevitably intensified under his counterfactual

Not this time. The U.S.-led air campaign against the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria doesn´t have a name. "I know of no plans at this point to name it," Pentagon spokesman Rear Adm. Political pollsters have a tough job. They have to create formulas to determine if the person they are interviewing is likely to vote, and it is within this calculation that their reputations are made. Typically, those who are likely to vote in an off-year election are pretty set. They are the people who always vote in elections — with some motivated by specific issues. In a wave election, the number of those motivated by specific issues escalates, changing the electoral landscape as the candidates who are beneficiaries of this increased participation sweep to victory. The 2014 election is rapidly looking like something new
