WASHINGTON – America´s top-ranked military officer says the surging Islamic State group has an "apocalyptic, end-of-days strategic vision" in the Middle East and cannot be defeated unless the United States and a coalition of partners confront it head-on in Syria. "They can be contained, not in perpetuity," Army Gen. Martin Dempsey, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, told a news conference. The United States so far has restricted a series of airstrikes to Iraq, but concerns have increased as the Islamic militant group has extended its reach from safe havens in civil-war-ravaged Syria across the Iraqi border. Comments:
The only one who doesn´t care is Obama. What astonished me and is not contained in the article is that Dempsey actually had the audacity to say this movement was religious and not political. In his position to state that is stunning! We all know they want to institute sharia law world wide. No wonder we are in such bad shape. The link below describes the ultimate objective of Islamic extremists is the merger of “mosque and state” under sharia law.

As OP stated under Islam the political can not be separated from the religion. That our top military officer does not (or can not) recognize this dooms us to defeat.

It is all of the above. It is religious, political, and strategic. Both the civilian and the military leadership have been playing pretend since 9-11 and have yet to craft a global warfighting strategy. Dempsey is correct, but his predecessors stuck their heads in the sand. I hope it´s not too late to get serious about this war.

Oh, c´mon, General. "apocalyptic"? That´s a bit strong of a word. It´s a scary word, like ´Armageddon´ or ´catastrophe´.

Apocalypse literally means a lifting of the veil of revelation or knowledge. A taste or hint of future events, usually bad or evil in nature. In a real sense, you could say, apocalypse means hope and change. Hope meaning a dream of some concept of future and change meaning a destruction of existing culture in exchange for some evil, detestable culture.

So, I can see how one might think in terms of apocalypse with Øbama and the so-called "Progressives" at the helm of our once great nation, but, --- surely they don´t really mean "Apocalypse". Do they?

Is he listening to old Glenn Beck radio broadcasts? Beck has been warning about this for YEARS.

But even if not, there have been plenty of warnings, plenty of evidence that this has been the millennial goal for eons.

Why do you think they are determined to destroy Israel, the "Little Satan" in order to get to the "Great Satan", the USA?

As the only real barrier to these murderous, rampaging, nihilistic goals has been the United States.

Unlike Bin Laden, whoever is leading ISIL has a much more organized plan, a methodology to its robbing, pillaging and butchery, and is able to use resources, like oil.

Apparently they are selling antiquities which they haven´t destroyed (I can´t help but recall the tears shed when Iraqi museums were damaged during the beginning of the war in ´03. Where are the archaeologists now?)

These so-called militants thrive on our perceived weakness and hesitancy (which they see as fear).

We cannot wait 2+ years to stop the IS. Their sophistication, funding, and recruitment sources and methods are too efficient. They will overwhelm our continually depleted military forces.

We cannot engage these Islamists in standard warfare. They are vicious savages, undeserving of Geneva Convention protections.
They are more like the Japanese Kamikaze and suicide bombers at the close 0f WWII, welcoming death.

We cannot fight them on the ground (at first). To do so would be to fill our nightly news with the gruesome horrors they would inflict on captured GI´s. No, we must use any or all of these options:
- B-52 carpet bombing
- Armed drones (lots of them)
- Sub-launched cruise missiles, with drone targeting as in the first Gulf war
- Daisy Cutters (BLU-82) tremendous psychological weapon (make more)
- MOAB´s (GBU-43/B) (make more)
- Neutron Bomb (Low yield - after the first WMD attack on an American city).

More to come.

Count House Speaker John Boehner as a fan of Jeb Bush for president. He also hasn´t spoken to Texas GOP Sen. Ted Cruz in two years. The driving issue of the 2016 election will be “competence,” and if former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush runs, “he’s got a real shot” at winning, the Ohio Republican told the Cincinnati Enquirer on Tuesday. Boehner applauded Bush’s ability to “talk about Republican issues better than most anybody that we’ve got out there,” approving of his “real record of reform” as Florida’s governor from 1999 to 2007. He also called potential candidates Ohio Gov. John

President Obama this week committed professional suicide. Let me explain. There is a theory in politics that once a leader has fired 50 or more people from his or her administration, he or she is finished. The reason being that by creating so many enemies ‘outside the tent’, the tent itself becomes too deluged with poisonous bile to avoid sinking into a quagmire of back-stabbing ignominy. Obama went a lot further than firing 50 people. He managed to single-handedly alienate 200,000 employees in the American intelligence agencies by going on 60 Minutes and ruthlessly chucking them all under a bus
