Police, lawyer release statements
on student´s alleged dinosaur killing

WCSC [South Carolina], by Ray Rivera and Sujata Jain

Original Article

SUMMERVILLE, SC -A Summerville High School student who says he was arrested and suspended after writing about killing a dinosaur using a gun in a class assignment has hired a lawyer. (Snip)The Summerville Police Department who arrested Stone on Tuesday on a charge of disorderly conduct is disputing Stone´s account of his arrest. "The information that is being reported is grossly incorrect in reference to what led to the juvenile being charged," said Capt. Jon Rogers in a Summeville police statement released on Thursday."The charges do not stem from anything involving a dinosaur or writing assignment, but the student´s conduct."

Comments:
He went on to be "disruptive". His language and behavior indicate someone who is developmentally and educationally delayed. A 16 year old starting his freshman year in HS.

It was his mentioning a "gun" and "taking care of business" that raised an alarm.

We don´t know this kid and his history. But we do know that kids younger than he have gotten hold of guns and "taken care of business". The deed begins in their minds, their fantasies. And there seem to be a lot of defective kids among us.

In the dark ages, Junior High was grades 7,8,9 and High School started at grade 10. Kindergarten started at age 5 which makes 15 the age for first year high school. A 1 year delay doesn´t mean developmentally delayed (he could have been sick).

Thanks for posting this, OP. I had read it earlier and hoped someone would spot it. If the boy does have a history of disruptive behavior, and behavior/developmental/cognitive disorders, then the teacher´s concerns may well have been justified.

My reaction to the story as reported in the National Review was that the teacher had overreacted. Perhaps she didn´t.

before we rush to our anti-authority reactions, we must consider

--we almost never have the full story

--teachers have become the nation´s parents

--defective kids are mainstreamed

--the silly dinosaur was not the story here, but it became the story

--the times - who ever dreamed that so many kids from ostensibly "nice" homes would plan and carry out mass murders-and in our schools?

Worth pondering before our knees jerk.

The leftist claim is always the same...little Johnny (or Suzie) was suspended/arrested/etc. not because he/she brought a Bible/said "bless you"/prayed/drew a picture of a gun/said the word "gun"/chewed a pop-tart into a gun shape/etc., but because he/she was "disruptive"/"aggressive"/"loud"/"obnoxious"...

I´ve become very suspicious of these writing assignments.

It was common in our kids´ schools, elementary especially, for the teacher to have them keep a journal. The teacher emphasized that it was their private journal, to write down their most private thoughts. Then the teacher would read them and comment on them. More than one parent has gotten a call about the content of their child´s journal.

I think this is a fishing expedition, and our children are being entrapped.

Besides the assignment being stupid, where did it say he was in his first year of high school an that he was in a particular grade.

What makes no sense is calling in the police without the teacher discussing what was written. The teacher must have been very inexperienced to have the school call the police over what was written. Perhaps the teacher needs to find another line of work.

It never hurts to discuss the situation with a parent before jumping to conclusions. The teacher obviously had no idea why the student got upset. This kid is now damaged before his peers and likely will have a difficult time getting over it.

I am suspicious too....of the cops. They say it wasn´t the story, then go about describing what he did wrong when he wrote the story. The kid never stood a chance. I´d have been upset too, and so would my sons. Oh but wait, I didn´t expose them to the Kiddie Prison, I homeschooled. It´s become dangerous to send your precious treasures to government schools. !!!
If you had precious jewels, would you leave them out on the sidewalk to be kicked around, even stolen? No, then don´t do that with your children either. TELL them why you´re a conservative, why you believe as you do.

Many people around the nation look at Ferguson Missouri and wonder what’s going on. Yesterday Missouri Democrat State Senator, Maria Chappelle-Nadal, provided a typical example of the provocations upon not just the law enforcement community, but also upon the non-black community held captive to the behavior of the raging mob. In an effort to solicit attention and public sympathy a group of professional agitators, led by Senator Nadal, took to the street and decided to block traffic. Jameis Winston is trending dangerously to the point that he is more trouble than he is worth. Florida State late Friday said it would suspend Winston for the entire Clemson game. That´s up from the first-half suspension that drew criticism from some corners for being too lenient. The school cited "the results of a continuing investigation" in making the decision. In other words, there is more -- a lot more there -- in Winston´s continuing off-field issues. On the eve of the Clemson game, this move smacks of Urban Meyer´s waffling on linebacker Brandon Spikes in 2009. The former Florida linebacker was

Medics carrying out a vaccination programme in rebel-held northern Syria accidentally administered a muscle relaxant to up to 75 children, killing 15 of them, the opposition says. A preliminary investigation by the National Coalition found atracurium was given to the children instead of a solution used to mix measles vaccines. The packaging for the drug is said to be similar to that of the solution. All of the children who died on Tuesday were between six and 18 months old. Their parents initially accused the opposition health authorities of not storing the vaccines properly or using out-of-date medication The National

Are chimpanzees naturally violent to one another, or has the intrusion of humans into their environment made them aggressive? A new study, published Wednesday in Nature, is setting off a new round of debate around this question. The study’s authors argue that a review of all known cases when chimpanzees or bonobos in Africa killed members of their own species shows that violence is a natural part of chimp behavior and not the result of actions by humans that push chimp aggression to lethal attacks. The researchers say their analysis supports the idea that warlike violence in chimps is a natural behavior that

Fellow soldiers and other critics fear the military’s now-delayed investigation is shaping up to be a whitewash. The case has become a political powder keg for President Obama.
