Dan Sullivan wins GOP U.S.
Senate primary in Alaska

ANCHORAGE, Alaska — A tea party attempt to overcome a mainstream Republican came up short in Alaska as former state Attorney General Dan Sullivan won the GOP primary to become his party’s candidate to take on U.S. Sen. Mark Begich in the fall. Sullivan entered the primary the presumed front-runner, with the backing of national GOP powerbrokers and a huge cash advantage over his rivals. Sullivan on Tuesday night bested tea party favorite Joe Miller, who made a late push reminiscent to his 2010 primary upset of U.S. Sen. Lisa Murkowski. Lt. Gov. Mead Treadwell, meanwhile, was third. He conceded

Looks like the establishment is largely getting it´s way this election cycle but I´ll bet they´re running on tea party themes, which there´s nothing wrong with.I don´t see libertarians getting ahead either, which is good news.

Whether the tea partiers wither away or not, they´ve already changed the direction of the party and have enough House seats to keep Bonehead from doing anything stupid. If he had the votes he would have already signed off on amnesty.

I´m not sure I understand the objection to Dan Sullivan. He´s a Marine reservist, former Attorney General and is apparently familiar with Alaska´s natural resources and the dangers of federal intrusions. Former governor Sarah Palin appointed him Attorney General before she quit her office.

Treadwell would have been a good winner, too. Joe Miller has always been a bit of a flake.

FTA: "..with the backing of national GOP powerbrokers and a huge cash advantage over his rivals."

That is the problem #3. Anyone getting the backing of the Establishment Republicans who are pushing amnesty (which will hurt your state most of all) is suspect.

Great "like" numbers today.

So a Tea Party candidate from Alaska is a flake, but a real flake from the leadership of the GOP Establishment, like Boehner, is just ´not a Democrat´, and should always get our vote.

Got it.

Sullivan and Treadwell were both good candidates. Just because "establishment" types want to defeat a Democrat that shouldn´t reflect poorly on the candidate. Sullivan has a very solid background in economics, national security and the State Dept.

If the people don´t wake up to the fact that the GOP leadership is but a carbon copy of the Marxist democrat leadership America is doomed to destruction from within allowed and blessed by the ignorant electorate.

#6, I´m sure even you will agree that merely hanging a "Tea Party" banner on a candidate does not automatically make that person into a feasible candidate. Conversely, a candidate who does not have "Tea Party" tattooed across the brow should not be automatically discounted. But, I´m not at all sure what an Alaskan election has to do with John Boehner. Why bring him into the discussion?

The newsroom of the New York Times will absorb a cut of 100 newsroom jobs through a buyout program, though the company will resort to layoffs, if necessary, according to memos from top executives at the paper. The cutbacks will also affect other areas of the Times. “We are reducing the cost base of the company to safeguard the long-term profitability of The Times, not because of any short-term business difficulties,” reads the memo from Publisher Arthur Sulzberger Jr. and CEO Mark Thompson. A separate message from Executive Editor Dean Baquet laid out the impact on the news operation: “So,

The GOP´s Senate fortunes seem to have taken a step forward over the last week or so, with polling showing Republicans leading in eight contests over Democrat-held seats (AK, AR, CO, IA, LA, MT, SD, WV) -- and within striking distance in three more races (MI, NC, NH). The party must gain six net seats in November to demote Harry Reid and reclaim the upper chamber majority. But one match-up in the heartland is giving Republicans unexpected heartburn. Voters in Kansas -- a state Mitt Romney carried 60-38 over President Obama in 2012 -- are flirting with the idea of

Sergeant Andrew Tahmooressi has been jailed in a Mexican prison for the past nine months for accidentally crossing the U.S.-Mexico border with several firearms. Since his arrest, the “big three” (ABC, CBS, and NBC) networks have barely covered his story on their morning or evening newscasts despite the numerous efforts by the public to get him freed. On Wednesday, Sergeant Tahmooressi´s mother appeared before a House committee asking Congress to support a resolution calling for her son’s safe return to the United State and unsurprisingly all three network morning newscasts ignored her upcoming testimony on Capitol Hill. WASHINGTON — President Obama must be touched by all the concern Republicans are showing him these days. As Congress examines security breaches at the White House, even opposition lawmakers who have spent the last six years fighting his every initiative have expressed deep worry for his security. “The American people want to know: Is the president safe?” Representative Darrell Issa of California, the Republican committee chairman who has made it his mission to investigate all sorts of Obama administration missteps, solemnly intoned as he opened a hearing into the lapses on Tuesday.
