Mo´Ne Davis Lands
Sports Illustrated Cover

Atlantic Wire, by David Ludwig

Original Article

Next up for 13-year old pitching wizard Mo´ne Davis? The cover of Sports Illustrated. On Friday, Davis became the first girl to throw a shutout in the Little League World Series when she led her Philadelphia Taney Dragons to a 4-0 win over Nashville. Today she has become the first Little Leaguer (of either gender) to grace SI´s cover. Albert Chen summed up the national fascination with Davis in his cover article. She´s a lot of things to a lot of different people, all of them good things: a totem for inner-city baseball, a role model for your 10-year-old niece,

Comments:
This kid is special. I wish good things for her future.

The cynic in me expects a lawsuit , if not rioting in about 5 or 6 years, when she isn´t drafted by a major league team.

There´s no doubt about it...she not a rock star, she is much, much better than a rock star! May her hard work lead her to a very, very bright future in baseball, basketball or beyond.

The Little League World Series is the highest and best use for my tv.

Good Luck Mo´Ne. Mow them down.

The bad news is if you win today, next up is Jackie Robinson on Thursday and they are better than some good college teams.

1. When I was a kid, Little League was for kids up to 12 years old. 13 and up was the Babe Ruth League.
2. She sure don look like a girl.

We, too, wondered about the ages. When our boys were in LL, it was ages 8-12. Older boys were up in the next league.

Watching the World Series, we notice the players are mostly older boys. Many are still baby-faced, some are already well into puberty, and one AA boy on the Philadelphia team looked like he was in full manhood.

The muscle development in boys of LL age(s) can vary but it really goes awry when the older boys are still allowed in the competition.

Just be happy for the girl, already! She´s a thinker, pensive, loves to play ball. Oh that most kids in LL would be that way. Instead, we get parents pushing their kids to play for the competition, not for love of the game. Watch her! She´s humble, her team loves her, she´s a leader. Stop with the politics and just enjoy the game!

Everyone playing LL has to be 12 or younger on a certain date and everyone must show their league their birth certificate. A player must be 12 when the season starts though they may turn 13 during the summer.

Example- 12 in May, June, or July , have their birthday during the summer and are 13 by the time of the Ll World Series. They would not have been eligible for Babe Ruth, #5, as they would have been only 12 when BR season started. It´s been this way forever and by the time the LL season is over many have turned 13.

This is healthy for a number of reasons - including that she is a star on her own, admitted to competition solely on merit and without regard to any lowered standards based on gender - along with the much more important issue of how much better off we´d be if all kids that age were more like her on and off the field.

I´ve watched many of these games and I saw her pitch, and yes, she´s very good. I´m also a NASCAR fan. Why do I mention this? When Danica Patrick started her first season there, the media made any race the ´´Danica Patrick 500´´ or DP this or DP that. Cameras on her car all the time, even in 34th or 35th place. Fact: She´s a lousy driver going nowhere, but because of her plumbing, nice bod and fairly attractive, the race media clowns went waaaay overboard.

I just wish they would give this little girl some space to breath and mention once in a while that there are 8 other players out there.

Rant over.

This former LL mom and wife of long time manager and dedicaed LL volunteer recommends that #10 have a look here. The current age cutoff in the spring was not done "forever". The change occurred in the 2006 season.

When our boys were playing the cutoff was July 31.

For the past 60 years in Little League, players born in the mid-summer have played their entire 12-year-old seasons without actually being 12 years old. It has been this way for up to 50 years in the other smaller youth baseball organizations as well.

That´s why the organizations got together (through their membership in USA Baseball) to recommend the change. All of the organizations have supported it, with the understanding that all would make the change next year, or by the 2007 season at the latest. Little League’s International Board of Directors will meet this spring to formally consider making the change to the April 30 date.

The age cutoff change was adopted and it appears that it went into effect the next year. It wasn´t that way "forever".

This young lady seems very well raised and is a great story.
HOWEVER, she is a 13 year old GIRL playing against 13 year old boys. In 2 years her velocity will be the same that it is now and the boys will blow past her. Just a fact. She has ZERO chance of playing in college let alone MLB. At this point we just have exploitation of a kids love of baseball to sell stuff for manipulative grown-ups.

The Obama administration is reportedly considering an executive action that could protect illegal immigrants convicted of serious vehicle-related offenses, including drunk driving, from deportation as they’d normally be subject to under immigration law. The most sweeping piece of executive action President Obama has considered regarding immigration policy would offer effectively legal status and work authorization to some millions of illegal immigrants, but there are other executive actions the administration has considered instead of or in addition to that measure. One of those possibilities, described in a report by the

The Department of Health and Human Services cannot legally bail out the insurance industry for excessive losses through President Obama´s health care law unless the U.S. Congress approves language allowing the administration to do so, according to a legal opinion released on Tuesday by the Government Accountability Office. At issue is the "risk corridors" program, which aims to stabilize the insurance market on the new health insurance exchanges

President Barack Obama has taken a lot of flack since his Sunday night “60 Minutes” interview, in which he blamed the intelligence community for his failure to tackle the threat posed by the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria. The Obama administration must acknowledge the existence of an independent investigation into former White House senior economics adviser Austan Goolsbee’s alleged unauthorized access to the Koch brother’s tax returns, a court ruled Tuesday. A federal judge ruled the Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration (TIGTA) must disclose to watchdog group Cause of Action whether records of an investigation exist. Cause of Action filed a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) lawsuit after TIGTA refused to confirm or deny the existence of the investigation in what is commonly known as a “Glomar response.”

The Democrats’ biggest worry heading toward November is Obama’s fall from grace with his base. This could make things even worse for them than currently expected. Democrats’ only hope to offset Republicans’ anticipated midterm surge is their base’s high turnout. However, Obama’s deep drop with his strongest supporters seriously calls this hope into question. Democrats know they will lose seats in November. The only question is: How many? At best, they hope to hang on to the Senate by a hair. Losses for the party holding the presidency are nothing new. Simply, it happens because the presidential candidate, who brought in sufficient
