UN Human Rights Council
Urged to End Virtual Silence on
Iraq’s Endangered Minorities

Iraqi Christian and Yazidi representatives will gather in Geneva on Tuesday to urge the U.N.’s top human rights body to hold an urgent meeting to discuss the plight of their imperiled communities. The Human Rights Council has largely ignored the issue up until now. The rally comes 10 days after a coalition of human rights advocacy groups and lawmakers from several countries urged U.N. high commissioner for human rights Navi Pillay to call for an emergency HRC session on the deadly jihadist campaign against Iraq’s religious minorities. As of early Tuesday the coalition had received no reply, confirmed U.N. Watch

Comments:
I seriously doubt the UN HRC would make any statement that would criticize Muslims.

Police are investigating a mysterious death at a market in Santa Ana. A woman was acting violently Wednesday at El Toro Carniceria-Meat Shop at 1340 West 1st Street when a security guard placed her in handcuffs, according to investigators. A witness said she was behaving erratically and began removing her clothes. “She was jumping like crazy. And then she made a mess inside the liquor store. And that’s why the security guard had to do what he had to do, and grab her and handcuff her,” Joseph Castellan said. Moments later, she died.Detectives have not released the identity of the

Paul Krugman’s latest dispatch bemoans the penchant of the rich to live in vast mansions with lots of servants. It would be unremarkable save for the glimpse it provides into the lack of self-awareness on the left. Mr. Krugman reckons that we are seeing a resurgence of elite ostentation. This seems to have been touched off by his reading an article from a long ago Fortune magazine about how executives lived in the 1950s. It turns out, he writes, that “the lives of an earlier generation’s elite were, indeed, far more restrained, more seemly if you like, than those of

NYC mayor slaughters lovable groundhog in brutal death smash. Yet another defenseless creature was slaughtered by a left-wing politician, the New York Post revealed on Thursday. Adorable groundhog Staten Island Chuck was “chucked” to his death during an appearance with New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio, a raging liberal, back in February. Officials sought to cover up the creature’s demise, so as not to fuel public outrage over the disturbing trend of liberal politicians murdering cute animals. They even lied about the true identity of the victim. Staten Island Zoo officials went to great lengths to hide the death

Two days before Attorney General Eric Holder announced his resignation, a federal court ordered the Justice Department to produce, by October 22, a detailed list of Fast and Furious documents sought by a conservative watchdog group. Judicial Watch requested the documents in a June 2012 Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request. Three months later, in September 2012, Judicial Watch filed a FOIA lawsuit, seeking all of the documents the Obama White House was withholding from Congress under a claim of executive privilege. This week, the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia ruled that the Justice Department must submit

BuzzFeed reported Thursday that Susan Wismer, the Democratic Party´s gubernatorial nominee in South Dakota, has been caught plagiarizing from the already plagiarized jobs plan of the party´s Wisconsin gubernatorial nominee, Mary Burke. Wismer also plagiarized from the Democratic Party´s gubernatorial nominee in Texas, Wendy Davis. (snip) There have been no reports yet that any other Democratic gubernatorial candidates have plagiarized Wismer´s plagiarization of Burke´s plagiarized plan. But with another 40 days still left until election day, it is still too early to discount the possibility of a third generation of campaign document plagiarization among Democrats this cycle.

The central figure in a General Services Administration conference scandal that forced agencies across government to rein in spending was indicted Thursday on charges he sought reimbursement for personal travel in Las Vegas and other vacation spots then lied about it. Jeff Neely, 59, former regional administrator for GSA´s Pacific Rim region, billed the federal government for personal travel and expenses in Las Vegas, California, Guam and Saipan, according to a federal indictment. According to the indictment, Mr. Neely billed GSA for lodging expenses at the M Resort Spa Casino Las Vegas in 2010 and roundtrip airfare for travel between

Thanks to his stonewalling of the House of Representatives investigation into the Fast and Furious scandal, in 2012 Eric Holder became the first Attorney General held in contempt by Congress. Maybe his resignation on Thursday will revive the story for the three broadcast network evening newscasts, but don´t count on it. With Sharyl Attkisson no longer working at CBS News, there is no broadcast journalist who has shown any interest in pursuing this disgraceful story. In fact, as the MRC documented after the 2012 re-election of President Obama, Holder´s Fast and Furious scandal was just one of the many stories the

The resignation — if that’s what it is — of Attorney General Eric Holder signals the end of one of the most divisive tenures in the history of the cabinet. It was no doubt inevitable after Mr. Holder was determined, in a bi-partisan vote, to be in criminal contempt of the 112th United States House. He became the only sitting cabinet officer in history to be so found. He reacted to the contempt finding with more contempt. From that point on his tenure in office was unsustainable. Eric Holder Jr., the nation´s first black U.S. attorney general, is preparing to announce his resignation Thursday after a tumultuous tenure marked by civil rights advances, national security threats, reforms to the criminal justice system and five and a half years of fights with Republicans in Congress. Two sources familiar with the decision tell NPR that Holder, 63, intends to leave the Justice Department as soon as his successor is confirmed, a process that could run through 2014 and even into next year. A former U.S. government official says Holder has been increasingly "adamant" about his desire to leave soon

So this video of The View’s women grappling with the Obama administration’s response to ISIS terrorism is noteworthy. Why are liberals obsessed with oil? And what, exactly, is the “financial incentive?” Here is the

President Obama on Wednesday delivered a speech at the United Nations filled with his usual soaring rhetoric of global collectivism and the importance of “international norms.” But the president also displayed a shocking naivete about global affairs, religion, Islam — a Pollyannaish interpretation on the state of the world and America’s role in it. Although Mr. Obama won a Nobel Peace Prize just eight months into office, the president made his annual trip to the ineffectual world council to deliver a call to war. “Ladies and gentlemen, we come together at a crossroads between war and peace,

Normally, no one would care that in a recent Atlantic essay — “Why I Hope to Die at 75” — 57-year-old Dr. Ezekiel Emanuel argued that living to be 75 years old was long enough for anyone. After 75, Emanuel suggests, “We are no longer remembered as vibrant and engaged but as feeble, ineffectual, even pathetic.” But Emanuel is no garden-variety crackpot. Nor is he a wannabe science-fiction writer dreaming of a centrally planned planet of robust youthful humanoids. Even though Republicans may take back the Senate by running against amnesty, former Florida Governor Jeb Bush pushed amnesty legislation while stumping for North Carolina Republican Senate candidate Thom Tillis on Wednesday. Bush, according to the New York Times, reportedly said that comprehensive immigration reform "will restore and sustain economic growth for this country." And even though a recent Gallup poll found that illegal immigration is now the top concern among Republicans, Bush said that if immigration reform is "framed in that way, I don’t think there’s a big debate in the Republican Party about the need to do this."

Hotel workers in yellow shirts packed City Hall as the council voted 12 to 3 to approve the measure, which will go into effect for hotels with at least 300 rooms beginning in July. Hotels with 150 rooms or more will have to meet the wage requirement a year later. “Hotel workers are here because they want family-supporting wages,” said Maria Elena Durazo, executive secretary-treasurer of the Los Angeles County Federation of Labor, AFL-CIO, during the public

Of all the malfeasances of William Jefferson Clinton the one that would have most justified a removal from office was not the Monica hijinks, even with the attendant lying under oath and absurd parsings of the word “is,” but the pardoning of Marc Rich — the billionaire international commodities trader and mammoth contributor to, er, Clinton. Luckily for Bill, this action occurred on the last day of his presidency, making anything like impeachment moot, even though it was an example of political corruption that would have made Boss Tweed envious. With the mid-term elections weeks away, many conservatives are confronting a difficult choice. Assuming there are no solid conservatives on the ballot, do we vote for establishment candidates?
