Breaking: Nuclear Sabotage in Europe?
Power Line, by Steven Hayward

Original Article

Here’s a curious story out of Belgium that is receiving no media attention (outside a few mentions in the specialized press) in the US: Belgian Doel-4 Nuclear Reactor Closed Till Year-End PARIS, Aug 14 (Reuters) – Belgian energy company Electrabel said its Doel 4 nuclear reactor would stay offline at least until the end of this year after major damage to its turbine, with the cause confirmed as sabotage. . . (snip) There was an intentional manipulation,” he said, adding that somebody had tampered with the system used for emptying oil from the Alstom-made turbine.

How are we in the US vulnerable? Let us count the ways.

In a book that thoroughly examines the successes and failures of the Tea Party in the age of Obama, Breitbart News Senior Editor-at-Large Joel Pollak´s chapter on former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin shows why Palin unmasked the media´s biases against conservatives just like Barack Obama exposed the media´s biases for liberals, especially those Obama´s mold. Former Republican presidential candidate Rick Santorum on Thursday criticized comments US Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) made earlier this month, in a speech that critics have said was unnecessarily confrontational toward a Middle Eastern Christian group. (snip) Cruz earned the ire of many conservatives for his speech to a group called "In Defense of Christians." During those remarks, Cruz made a point to say he would not support groups in the Middle East who are not pro-Israel.  He walked off the stage to a chorus of boos after eventually telling the crowd he wouldn´t "stand with" them if they did not "stand

The former deputy director of the CIA regards the group as potentially more threatening than ISIS. The Pentagon says the group was "nearing the execution phase" of an attack on the U.S. or Europe. And an expert on al Qaeda says they are "following bin Laden´s vision." The group is called Khorasan, a collection of al Qaeda veterans who fought in Afghanistan and Pakistan. And while ISIS has been grabbing most of the terror-related headlines in recent months, it is Khorasan that poses potentially more of a threat to the U.S. - which is why it was also targeted by

Last night the Washington Free Beacon’s Alana Goodman broke yet another story about Hillary Clinton by doing journalism any major media outlet could do but, for some reason, doesn’t. The Beacon looked through archives at UT-Austin and discovered correspondence between Clinton and Saul Alinsky. Rand Paul is either a liar or too easily captivated by the kinds of outlandish conspiracy theories that excite many of his and his father’s supporters, a cohort long overrepresented by political fringe dwellers. The United States and allies launched airstrikes against Sunni militants in Syria early Tuesday, unleashing a torrent of cruise missiles and precision-guided bombs from the air and sea on the militants’ de facto capital of Raqqa and along the porous Iraq border. American fighter jets and armed Predator and Reaper drones, flying alongside warplanes from several Arab allies, struck a broad array of targets in territory controlled by the militants, known as the Islamic State. American defense officials said the targets included weapons supplies, depots, barracks and buildings the militants use for command and control. Tomahawk cruise missiles were fired

Alana Goodman’s revelation at the Washington Free Beacon of previously unknown correspondence between Hillary Clinton and Saul Alinsky shows that Clinton has not been honest about her far-left past. The lost Alinsky letters also remind us of what we ought to know but have forgotten, Hillary is not “Clintonian.”  While Bill and Hillary have worked, schemed, and governed as a couple for decades, Hillary has always been to the left of Bill.  As president, she would govern more like Obama than like her husband. Hillary Clinton was the Elizabeth Warren of her day, the leader of the left-wing of the Democratic

John Kerry has assembled a three-person team to lead the State Department’s efforts against ISIS. Two of the members — Gen. John Allen and Brett McGurk — seem unobjectionable. The third, Anne Patterson, is another matter. In announcing her central role, Kerry praised Patterson as “one of our nation’s top diplomats deeply respected in the region.” But Patterson is not respected in Egypt, where she served as ambassador during the period when the Muslim Brotherhood was in power. We’re being had. Again. For six years, President Obama has endeavored to will the country into accepting two pillars of his alternative national-security reality. First, he claims to have dealt decisively with the terrorist threat, rendering it a disparate series of ragtag jayvees. Second, he asserts that the threat is unrelated to Islam, which is innately peaceful, moderate, and opposed to the wanton “violent extremists” who purport to act in its name. Now, the president has been compelled to act against a jihad that has neither ended nor been “decimated.” The jihad, in fact, has inevitably intensified under his counterfactual

When the U.S. military strikes, its leaders often choose colorful code names for the operation that sometimes stick in history, like Operation Overlord or Rolling Thunder or Desert Storm. Not this time. The U.S.-led air campaign against the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria doesn´t have a name. "I know of no plans at this point to name it," Pentagon spokesman Rear Adm. John Kirby said Thursday. Since World War II, almost every U.S. military operation, large and small, has had a code name. Political pollsters have a tough job. They have to create formulas to determine if the person they are interviewing is likely to vote, and it is within this calculation that their reputations are made. Typically, those who are likely to vote in an off-year election are pretty set. They are the people who always vote in elections — with some motivated by specific issues. In a wave election, the number of those motivated by specific issues escalates, changing the electoral landscape as the candidates who are beneficiaries of this increased participation sweep to victory. The 2014 election is rapidly looking like something new

The Justice Department is expected to ban profiling by federal law enforcement. Counter-terror investigators would be barred from undercover operations in mosques or other religious institutions unless there is reason to believe criminal activity is going on there, under a new policy expected within weeks. The new rules would ban profiling based on religion, ethnicity or sexual orientation and includes no exemption for national security investigations, the Los Angeles Times reports. The announcement of the new policy to crack down on law enforcement profiling was delayed for several months because of White House
