Spam looks pretty good for 77! The iconic blue can's birthday just passed, and in honor, here are 16 things you probably didn't know about this porky classic.1. An actor thought up the name.On New Year's Eve 1936, Jay Hormel threw a party and asked his guests to submit their most creative names for his new product. Kenneth Daigneau, a New York-based actor, wrote down Spam. Hormel loved the name, Daigneau won $100, and in July 1937, the first can of Spam rolled off the production line. (Here's a picture of Daigneau - look at those eyebrows!)2. Since then, it's sold more than 8 billion cans.

Me too, #1. But, I can´t find the hickory-smoked version any more. That was my favorite. I always keep a couple of cans on the pantry shelf for a sandwich emergency fix.

I spent 10 days in the Austin plant where they make it - and I can still eat it.

To quote Monty Python:

Sshh, dear, don´t cause a fuss. I´ll have your spam. I love it. I´m having spam spam spam spam spam spam spam beaked beans spam spam spam and spam.

In Hawaii Spam is wildly popular as Spam musubi; looks like a piece of sushi except with a chunk of spam on a chunk of rice with the seaweed wrapped around it like electrical tape. Yum!

The lower sodium version is really good.

Those that don´t like Spam are uneducated and have the taste-buds of an aardvark. It´s truly a delight for we upper class types! (SMILE)

It´s popular at our house. Not long ago, my foreign-born wife reminded me that on my next trip to the store I should pick up a can of "low-fat sperm."

Pentagon Official: The President Is Lying

President Barack Obama has taken a lot of flack since his Sunday night “60 Minutes” interview, in which he blamed the intelligence community for his failure to tackle the threat posed by the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria. And that is right and proper. Because not only was his excuse of blaming us a lie, but when questioned on his lie, White House press secretary Josh Earnest doubled down with a whole new lie — both of which are easily, publicly proven false. On Sunday, Obama said the intelligence community had underestimated the rise of ISIS, saying in an interview

Former President Jimmy Carter claimed Wednesday that he would have been re-elected and beaten Ronald Reagan in 1980 if had been more “manly” in his dealings with Iran. Interviewed by the show "CNBC Meets," Carter repeated his belief that the failed mission to free American hostages held in Tehran killed his chances, but then added that had he gone to war, America would have rewarded him with a second term in 1980.

My last article for American Thinker was too long. And too short. Too long because the gurus tell us articles should be about 600 words. My story about the president talking to the black caucus about white people inflicting constant racial injustice on black people came in at 1500 words. I was just getting warmed up. I thought it strange that at the same time the president was trying to persuade us that black people are relentless victims, black people were committing acts of racial violence in places like Seattle, Miami, Indianapolis, Bronx, Ferguson, Kansas City, Providence, Minneapolis and 18 miles from where

The Obama administration found itself scrambling on Tuesday to defend President Barack Obama for his lackluster 42% attendance record on daily intelligence briefings, a finding from a new report issued by the non-partisan Government Accountability Institute (GAI). When asked about the GAI revelation on Fox News, State Department spokeswoman Jen Psaki appeared flustered and unprepared. "Well, I have no validation of those statistics," said Psaki. "There are a range of ways that you can get your intelligence briefings on the road, in the White House, and I know that he receives those whenever he can."

The quintessential question of Watergate was “what did the President know and when did he know it?” Obamagate, the vast scandal that encompasses an entire presidency, offers a preemptive answer. Obama didn’t know anything and he never knew it. At least not until, like smuggling weapons to druglords, bugging journalists, IRSing his political enemies and killing vets, his right hand found out about what his left hand was doing from the morning paper. After skipping 58% of his daily intelligence briefings in Term 1 and 59% of them in Term 2, he went on 60 Minutes and blamed intelligence agencies for being

Kansas Tea Party supporters are threatening to sit out the state’s pivotal Senate election, potentially dealing another blow to the reelection hopes of Sen. Pat Roberts (R-Kan.). Though schisms within the GOP base rarely have such an outsized impact on a general election contest, the lack of support from the conservative base could be devastating to the vulnerable Roberts’s chances against surging independent Greg Orman. Multiple sources tell The Hill that a group of Tea Party leaders in the state are meeting Wednesday to try to decide whether they should go to bat for the incumbent this fall or sit out of

President Obama this week committed professional suicide. Let me explain. There is a theory in politics that once a leader has fired 50 or more people from his or her administration, he or she is finished. The reason being that by creating so many enemies ‘outside the tent’, the tent itself becomes too deluged with poisonous bile to avoid sinking into a quagmire of back-stabbing ignominy. Obama went a lot further than firing 50 people. He managed to single-handedly alienate 200,000 employees in the American intelligence agencies by going on 60 Minutes and ruthlessly chucking them all under a bus

Count House Speaker John Boehner as a fan of Jeb Bush for president. He also hasn´t spoken to Texas GOP Sen. Ted Cruz in two years. The driving issue of the 2016 election will be “competence,” and if former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush runs, “he’s got a real shot” at winning, the Ohio Republican told the Cincinnati Enquirer on Tuesday. Boehner applauded Bush’s ability to “talk about Republican issues better than most anybody that we’ve got out there,” approving of his “real record of reform” as Florida’s governor from 1999 to 2007. He also called potential candidates Ohio Gov. John

A white Ohio woman is suing a Downers Grove-based sperm bank, alleging that the company mistakenly gave her vials from an African-American donor, a fact that she said has made it difficult for her and her same-sex partner to raise their now 2-year-old daughter in an all-white community. Jennifer Cramblett, of Uniontown, Ohio, alleges in the lawsuit filed Monday in Cook County Circuit Court that Midwest Sperm Bank sent her the vials of an African-American donor´s sperm in September 2011 instead of those of a white donor that she and her white partner had ordered. A recent fight between Rosie O´Donnell and Whoopi Goldberg has producers at The View looking to add a cool-down room for the ladies. After being cut off by Goldberg during an episode last week so the show could go to commercial, O´Donnell began to express how upset she was and, after being told repeatedly by Goldberg it was not the right time to have that discussion, eventually got cursed out by the Oscar winner. Goldberg told O´Donnell, ´F*** it, I told you to leave it alone and you just don´t want to listen. If you want to go there Rosie,

HOUSTON, Texas -- Former House Majority Leader Tom DeLay was found not guilty today by the Texas Court of Criminal Appeals. This is the highest appellate court in Texas for criminal cases and thus brings DeLay’s political persecution to an end. The court upheld the ruling last year from the Texas 3rd Court of Appeals. That decision tossed out the convictions on money laundering and conspiracy charges. At that time Justice Melissa Goodwin wrote “The fundamental problem with the state´s case was its failure to prove proceeds of criminal activity,” according to a September 19th report on Breitbart News.
