Horrifying bird slaughter
at solar power plant

American Thinker, by Thomas Lifson

Original Article

A solar power plant partly owned by Google is incinerating one flying bird every 2 minutes, igniting the poor creatures as they fly past the concentrated beams of light from focused mirror arrays. The phony scare over CO2 purportedly causing global warming has motivated investment in this lethal scheme that is damaging the ecosystem around the Bright Source Energy plant at Ivanpah, on the California- Nevada border. Ellen Knickmeyer and John Locher of AP report: Workers at a state-of-the-art solar plant in the Mojave Desert have a name for birds that fly through the plant´s concentrated sun rays — "streamers," for the

Unintended consequences once again. I enjoy birds and have made many homes and feeding stations for them over the years. This is sad.

Mainly, though, this discovery has got to have PETA in a real bind: Go against green and risk the lashes of energy mavens, or stay true to their mission and start destroying solar power plants?

Decisions,.....

(I am betting on Rush making a big deal out of this today.)

Those of us in the desert know how hot it gets here. Truly, truly hot. Not humid, but oven-broiler hot.

For that reason, we have reflective film on our windows to keep the heat outside and not melt our mini blinds, which don´t help at all.

Reflective film ... well, it reflects. Not only the sun and the heat, but the entire exterior scenery, including trees. And the birds, being birds, fly into trees. Sadly, however, some of those trees are mirror images of what´s really BEHIND the birds. They crash into windows all the time, and if they´re lucky, they fly off. Some aren´t that lucky.

Now, even a little forethought and a short series of ´´what if´s´´ would tell any rational, thinking person that this could happen.

And don´t get me started on solar power itself. I´ve lived with it - it ain´t all sunshine on your power bill. For those of you wondering why the desert isn´t full of solar stations, it´s because the solar-panels-to-batteries process requires a lot of water. A LOT of water. And the desert, being a desert, doesn´t have a lot of water.

Duh. All of this could be ascertained prior to disaster, tragedy, idiocy, whatever you wanna call it.

The point of environmental impact studies # 9 is to shut down real energy projects. The solar and wind projects get a pass. There was no effort by the Greens to stop this. They didn´t think it through at all and since they didn´t "study" it they own it completely. Cancel all phoney EPA environmental studies and approve all projects!

Last night’s air strikes against ISIS in Syria used up 47 Tomahawk missiles. The Tomahawk is an extremely effective weapon, capable of delivering its ordnance precisely, without risking a pilot’s life. But the defense cuts of the Obama administration call for procuring only one hundred Tomahawks next year. Christopher Cavas of Defense News reported last May: Weapons procurement showed striking reductions from last year’s plans. Then, the Navy planned to buy 980 Tactical Tomahawks, the primary cruise missile in use throughout the fleet. The new plan shows only 100 missiles in 2015 and none thereafter.

Rotherham has made its splash, had its fifteen minutes and is gone, assuredly with a sigh of relief from the media and politicians on both sides of the big pond. For thirteen years, something on the order of 1400 girls in Rotherham, a typical Midlands industrial city of roughly a quarter-million, were carefully groomed and then turned out as whores by members of the city’s Pakistani Muslim minority. The motive of the Muslims is transparent: Mohammed said it was okay. The reaction of the city’s populace is less so. For thirteen years, not a government official, not a policeman, not a

ince the U.S. is largely moderate to conservative, it was hard to imagine how someone as far left as Barack Obama twice won the presidency. After the election was over, we learned how the Democrats’ data mining operation succeeded in bringing to the polls the outlying constituencies he needed to win (given the normally low turnout of the rest of the voters). Part of that mining for voters involved targeting messages designed to emotionally appeal to them, given that “belief” once formed in these peoples’ minds defeats any rational arguments. The big (and unfortunately successful) target of these emotional appeals was

The National Security Advisor of the United States did something astonishing yesterday. In the middle of a reporter’s questioning, she bolted from the podium of the White House pressroom, saying, “Nice to see you,” fleeing a situation she evidently was unable to cope with. The question that caused Ms. Rice to flee was a fairly simple one: whether or not the president has authorized the bombing of targets in Syria. Rice responded multiple times that the timing of strikes would not be released, but that was not the question at hand, and reporters pressed her on whether her boss had authorized

It was once said, “religion is designed to comfort the afflicted and to afflict the comfortable.” Jesus’ parables – short stories with moral lessons – were likewise designed to afflict, to draw us in but leave us uncomfortable. These teachings can be read as being about divine love and salvation, sure. But, their first listeners – first century Jews in Galilee and Judea – heard much more challenging messages. Only when we hear the parables as Jesus’ own audience did can we fully experience their power and find ourselves surprised and challenged today. Here are four examples of Jesus’ teachings that everybody gets wrong: 1.
