Emerging Solar Plants Scorch
Birds in Mid-Air

Workers at a state-of-the-art solar plant in the Mojave Desert have a name for birds that fly through the plant´s concentrated sun rays — "streamers," for the smoke plume that comes from birds that ignite in midair. Federal wildlife investigators who visited the BrightSource Energy plant last year and watched as birds burned and fell, reporting an average of one "streamer" every two minutes, are urging California officials to halt the operator´s application to build a still-bigger version. The investigators want the halt until the full extent of the deaths can be assessed. Estimates per year now range from a

Windmills chop the birds up and solar arrays cook the birds. But look at all the very expensive "free" energy we humans get...

This contraption is killing a bird every two minutes. That´s an outrage. These freebies are the biggest idiots anywhere.

Nothing new here. This is truly a disgrace, however. This is what happens when the government becomes all powerful and irrational. Somebody, of course, is sucking huge amounts of money out of the taxpayer to accomplish this travesty.

Extraordinary article, especially the stats on "streamers." Being a bird lover, that term infuriates me. Let´s look at the numbers presented - and calculated.

Bird deaths, from article:
- 1 every 2 minutes - Observed
- 1,000/year - Estimated by company running the plant
= 28,000/year - Estimated by the Center For Biologial Diversity, a George Soros fumded subversive organization (remember them from the Cliven Bundy ranch?)

Bird deaths calculated;
- 1 every 2 minutes = 360/day (12 hour days)
- 1,000/yr estimate = 3/day
- 28,000/yr estimate = 77/day

The Ass. Press should have been ashamed to print this piece....

The artificial sweeteners that are widely seen as a way to combat obesity and diabetes could, in part, be contributing to the global epidemic of these conditions. Sugar substitutes such as saccharin might aggravate these metabolic disorders by acting on bacteria in the human gut, according to a study published by Nature this week. Smaller studies have previously purported to show an association between the use of artificial sweeteners and the occurrence of metabolic disorders. This is the first work to suggest that sweeteners might be exacerbating metabolic disease, and that this might

When talking to national media outlets, Gov. Bobby Jindal has said over and over again that his current top priority is helping Republicans in the November elections. The Louisiana governor has said he won´t be making any decision about his own 2016 presidential campaign until 2015, in part to concentrate on getting Republicans elected in this year´s congressional and gubernatorial campaigns. "We´re focused right now on winning a bunch of races. I´d like to see us win the Senate, keep the House. We´ve got 36 governors races," Jindal told national radio host Hugh Hewitt in an August interview.

Sounding a somber note even as the economic outlook in the United States brightens, the Federal Reserve’s No. 2 official acknowledged on Monday that global growth had been “disappointing” and warned of fundamental headwinds that might temper future gains. The official, Stanley Fischer, who took over as vice chairman of the Fed in June, noted that although the weak recovery might simply be fallout from the financial crisis and the recession, “it is also possible that the underperformance reflects a more structural, longer-term shift in the global economy.” In a speech delivered on Monday in Stockholm at a conference organized

Dozens of government watchdogs are sounding the alarm that the Obama administration is stonewalling them, in what is being described as an unprecedented challenge to the agencies they´re supposed to oversee. Forty-seven of the government´s 73 independent watchdogs known as inspectors general voiced their complaints in a letter to congressional leaders this week. They accused several major agencies -- the Justice Department, the Peace Corps and the chemical safety board -- of imposing "serious limitations on access to records." The inspectors general are now appealing to Congress to help them do their jobs uncovering waste, fraud, and mismanagement.

It was once said, “religion is designed to comfort the afflicted and to afflict the comfortable.” Jesus’ parables – short stories with moral lessons – were likewise designed to afflict, to draw us in but leave us uncomfortable. These teachings can be read as being about divine love and salvation, sure. But, their first listeners – first century Jews in Galilee and Judea – heard much more challenging messages. Only when we hear the parables as Jesus’ own audience did can we fully experience their power and find ourselves surprised and challenged today. Here are four examples of Jesus’ teachings that everybody gets wrong: 1.

Three and a half months have come and gone and the Pentagon has offered no clarity on what happened to alleged Army deserter and Taliban collaborator Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl. Fellow soldiers and other critics fear the military’s now-delayed investigation is shaping up to be a whitewash. The case has become a political powder keg for President Obama. Since he traded five imprisoned Taliban leaders for Bergdahl, the US Government Accountability Office has declared the swap illegal, and nearly two dozen House Democrats have joined Republicans in officially condemning the move for making “Americans less safe.”

Domestic violence, also known as intimate partner violence, is defined as the physical, sexual or psychological harm caused by the current or former intimate partner. Since the 1970s, concern regarding the issue began in response to the women´s movement. Most of the traditional studies looked at the abuse women faced from men in heterosexual relationships. But, the latest study by Northwestern Medicine scientists found that domestic violence is more common among same-sex couples and excess stress raises the risk of this abuse. On analyzing the previous studies together, it was observed that domestic violence affected
