Harry Reid breaks the bank to
save Democrats’ Senate majority

Washington Times, by David Sherfinski

Senate Majority PAC, far and away the biggest-spending super political action committee of the election cycle — at nearly $25 million — has begun pouring millions of dollars into Michigan, Iowa and Colorado, signaling just how quickly Democrats have shifted to defense heading into November’s elections. The super PAC, which has deep ties to Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, is increasingly limiting its offensive efforts and is instead trying to create a firewall in Colorado, Michigan and even New Hampshire, hoping to halt a potential GOP wave that would net Republicans the six seats needed to capture the the chamber and remove

Afraid Harry has a down hill battle in Colorado. Saying Tea Party to Cory Gardner is like showing Dracula a cross. So many in the base don´t think Gardner or Beauprez would be any better than the dems they would replace so why bother.

Not quite, #3. Neither Gardner or Beauprez has rejected Tea Party ideals.

Gardner is polling even with Udall among registered voters, which means Udall loses if you look at likely voters. It also looks like Hickenlooper is running scared, too.

Remember, the same polling orgs that predicted the gun control state senators would keep their seats are also telling us how this election is going to turn out.

The Dems are depressed in Colorado. They don´t get to bribe the useful idiots to the polls with a marijuana vote this time.

MAVEN has arrived in Mars´s orbit after traveling 442 million miles in the course of 10 months to get there. It won´t land on the red planet but instead study Mars´ atmosphere from above to answer questions about its climate change, NASA says. NASA´s MAVEN craft will live up to its formal name -- the Mars Atmosphere and Volatile Evolution craft -- by helping scientists figure out how ancient Mars changed so dramatically into the planet we know today. It is the first mission devoted to studying the upper Martian atmosphere as a key to understanding the history of Mars' climate, water and habitability.

President Obama´s plan hinges on arming and training moderate Syrian militias to defeat ISIS. The president has been criticized for not doing that sooner. You´re about to hear from two men who saw the threat early, former Defense Secretary Leon Panetta and King Abdullah II of Jordan. Jordan is a moderate, American ally, nearly surrounded by war, with the Israeli-Palestinian conflict to its west, Syria to its north and Iraq to the east. Today we spoke to King Abdullah in New York before this month´s U.N. General Assembly meeting. For hundreds of years, his family ruled the holiest shrines in Islam.

Sanaa, Yemen - Yemen´s prime minister resigned Sunday, the state news agency reported, following days of violence that left more than 140 dead and prompted thousands to flee their homes. The official SABA news agency gave no details on the move by Mohammed Salem Bassindwa, and it was not immediately clear if his resignation had been accepted by the president. Bassindwa took office shortly after former president Ali Abdullah Saleh was forced to step down in 2012. He has been in office since February 2012 and has since been the target of sharp criticism for his inability to deal with the country's pressing problems.

The average life expectancy for a woman is 44. Little surprise, then, that girls there don’t want to be girls. There he was grabbed and subdued by an officer standing post inside the door. He was carrying a folding knife with a 2-1/2 inch serrated blade.

On a scalding July day five years ago, I found myself hiking in Red Rocks Park, just outside Denver, with Gary Hart. The copper cliffs were brilliantly lit in the midday sun, which burned our uncovered heads as we trudged up a steep incline toward the amphitheater that Franklin Roosevelt’s Works Progress Administration ingeniously carved into the boulders. We had come because Hart wanted to show me something, and as we made our way uphill, I was soon breathing heavily in the mile-high air. But I was more aware of Hart, who, at 72, labored audibly despite his legendary ruggedness.

The United Nations Climate Summit will begin in New York this Tuesday, but environmental activists didn’t wait. There was a tone of fatalism in the comments of many with whom I spoke; they despair that the kind of radical change they advocate probably won’t result from the normal democratic process. I know a lot of people are giddy at the prospect of Republicans taking the Senate this November, but that’s becoming less and less likely. It’s not because Democrats are rallying around a particular mission or set of candidates; it’s because Republicans and conservatives aren’t. It seems like I’m always writing on issues no one wants to hear are mistakes, such as messaging or social issues. But I don’t care. These things have to be said. If these columns are received like a gaseous cousin on a long car trip through the desert, so be it. Crack a window… If things continue on their current course, the GOP will not retake the Senate.

It was once said, “religion is designed to comfort the afflicted and to afflict the comfortable.” Jesus’ parables – short stories with moral lessons – were likewise designed to afflict, to draw us in but leave us uncomfortable. These teachings can be read as being about divine love and salvation, sure. But, their first listeners – first century Jews in Galilee and Judea – heard much more challenging messages. Only when we hear the parables as Jesus’ own audience did can we fully experience their power and find ourselves surprised and challenged today. Here are four examples of Jesus’ teachings that everybody gets wrong: 1.

The forecast is for people, and lots of them. The People’s Climate March is expected to bring more than 100,000 people who want to save the planet to the city Sunday. The march to address climate change, billed as the largest in history, is occurring two days before President Obama and world leaders attend a summit dealing with the same issue at the United Nations. U.N. Secretary General Ban Ki-moon — who has fought passionately against global warming — along with celebrities, CEOs and activists are expected to descend on the city for the massive event.
