KAMENSK-SHAKHTINSKY, Russia -- A dozen Russian armored personnel carriers appeared Friday near a large aid convoy that was parked near the Ukrainian border, poised to cross into rebel-held territory. Ukraine has expressed fears that Russia could use the aid shipment as cover for a military incursion in support of the separatists and threatened to use all means necessary to block the convoy if Ukrainian officials and the Red Cross were not allowed to inspect the cargo. While the presence of the armored vehicles near the aid trucks, about 30 kilometers (18 miles) from the border, was certain to cause some

Pay no attention to armored vehicles, comrade; is only to carry baby food.

Suddenly reminds me of Robin Williams great understated performance in "Moscow On The Hudson" in 1984.

Do you know where your donations go? Not to candidates, if you give to these five Tea Party organizations. It’s a scenario that has become all too familiar. You’re frustrated with the gridlock in D.C. You’re sickened by the burgeoning national debt. You think the country has gone to “hell in a handbasket” under the current administration and party leadership. And then you get a direct mail piece, or an email, or see an ad on the web that promises change by supporting candidates who embrace your ideals. Hopeful and excited to learn that there are organizations willing to fight for what you

Did you know that radio host Alex Jones has revealed that the U.S. military has “plans to subdue and kill Americans in civil disobedience protests?” Did you miss this important revelation? The claim is said to be based on a 132-page Army document titled, “U.S. Army Techniques Publication 3-39.33: Civil Disturbances.” A reader sent an Alex Jones Infowars.com story about this document to me, saying, “Good editors will assign a reporter to this story. Good reporters will take the time to research the documents presented, and then write a story about this plan now in existence to take over and subdue

The Endangered Species Act has wreaked havoc for decades on rural communities, but a newly filed lawsuit could force San Francisco urbanites like House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi to share their pain. A federal complaint filed this week contends that the Hetch Hetchy Project, which supplies water to San Francisco and the Bay Area, has unfairly enjoyed an exemption from the “severe cutbacks” required in rural California in order to save endangered fish species.Craig Manson, who heads the Center for Environmental Science, Accuracy and Reliability (CESAR) in Fresno, said the lawsuit is aimed at addressing the “double standard” that forces farmers

BEVERLY HILLS, Calif. -- Twenty-five years ago, on the night of Aug. 20, 1989, Erik and Lyle Menendez gunned down their parents in the den of their Beverly Hills, Calif. mansion. Erik was 18, Lyle 21. Their father, entertainment executive Jose Menendez, was shot in the head from point-blank range. Their mother, Kitty, was shot multiple times while trying to escape. The brothers´ first trial, which was broadcast on Court TV in 1993, became a national sensation. At that trial, they admitted to killing their parents, but their defense attorneys surprised the prosecution with an abuse defense, according to the Los Angeles Times. The brothers were

Peaceful protests and community activism replaced violent clashes in the streets of Ferguson, Mo. overnight, with only six arrests reported, police said. Unrest has ruled in the St. Louis suburb since the Aug. 9 police shooting death of unarmed teen Michael Brown. Missouri Highway Patrol Capt. Ron Johnson, speaking at an early-morning news conference, said tonight’s protesters remained mostly orderly, showing a marked improvement over the previous night, when 47 people were arrested. “Tonight was a very good night,” Johnson said.

GAZA CITY, Gaza Strip -- An Israeli airstrike in Gaza killed three senior commanders of the Hamas military wing on Thursday, the group said, in what is likely to be a major blow to the organization´s morale and a significant achievement for Israel´s intelligence agency. The pre-dawn strike leveled a four-story house in the southern town of Rafah, killing six people, including the three senior military commanders, identified by Hamas as Mohammed Abu Shamaleh, Raed Attar and Mohammed Barhoum. Israel said Abu Shamaleh had been the top Hamas commander in southern Gaza, overseeing fighters there during the current war. Attar was in

Following the grisly murder of an American journalist by extremist militants, one key question remains: How did ISIS abduct James Foley, who was widely considered to be in the custody of groups loyal to Syrian President Bashar al-Assad? In the words of Mic politics editor Stefan Becket: "The prevailing assumption was that Foley was being held by pro-Assad forces, or by the regime itself. How did he get from there to ISIS?" The FBI believes an “organized gang" abducted Foley, who was working for GlobalPost, shortly after he left an internet café on Nov. 22, 2012. In May 2013, GlobalPost President Philip Balboni

American voters says they would prefer President Barack Obama work with Congress rather than use executive action to address the illegal immigration crisis at the border, according to a detailed new opinion poll on immigration, illegal immigrants, and the state of the American worker. The poll, conducted by veteran Republican pollster Kellyanne Conway, also found that Americans disapprove of Obama’s record on immigration. And as one Republican aide on Capitol Hill describes it, the results of the poll are an “utter repudiation” of the Senate’s Gang of 8 immigration bill. The survey of 1,001 likely voters found that 61 percent

In July, after Germany trounced Brazil 7–1 in the semifinal match of the World Cup—including a first-half stretch in which the Brazilian soccer squad gave up an astonishing five goals in 19 minutes—a sports commentator wrote: “This was not a team losing. When it comes to combatting ISIS, the Obama administration has precious few successes to talk about. So today it touted a failure: U.S. Special Operations forces staged an unsuccessful operation this summer to rescue photojournalist James Foley and other Americans being held in Syria by Islamic State militants, according to senior Obama administration officials. The attempt, involving several dozen U.S. commandos, one of whom was injured in a fierce firefight with the militants, was the first known U.S. ground operation in Syria since the country’s descent into civil war. Some of those good reasons can be found in a new poll by Zogby Analytics showing him outpolling his nearest rivals for the nomination by about two to one. The poll of 315 likely Republican primary voters was conducted online on August 13-15 and has a margin of sampling error of +/-5.6 percentage points. Global warming has been temporarily ´paused´ according to a group of scientists, who attribute this interlude to climate fluctuations and a more restrained sun. Researchers at ETH Zurich have explained the two reasons behind the warming hiatus in their study published in the latest issue of the journal Nature Geoscience. The first is that global temperatures, which rose significantly in the 1990s, have only risen very slightly since 1998 - which has been used by sceptics to question climate change and the models used to measure it. However, climate fluctuations such as El Niño and its counter-phenomenon La Niña have
