Proof that TRUE beauty lasts for
ever: A year before her death, Lauren
Bacall posed for this unflinching portrait.
And, says SANDRA HOWARD, every line on
her proud, defiant face is a lesson*

How many stars would be brave enough to pose for a photograph like the one on the right? Hair greying and sparse, pulled harshly back from her skull. The barest traces of make-up, the skin crepey and creased. The lips thin and pursed. Not many of today’s celebrities in their 30s and 40s would dare to attempt it. (Photos) Even fewer would allow the camera lens to venture so intrusively close at the age of 88, knowing the result would be compared to how they looked in their dewy youth. That is why, when I gazed at the extraordinary portrait

I hope I age as gracefully and as well. Getting old is a tough thing to do, but there´s only one alternative to aging, which I´m not in any hurry to do.

There was a photo of Bacall a few years ago when her hair was still pepper and salt and not totally gray. Looked as if she was just returning from shopping, and wore a sensible tweedy coat for a damp, chilly day in NY. But the strong stride was there (I can tell you big feet help when you´re becoming a bit unbalanced) and her face was lit up with her trademark smile, wrinkles and all. I was surprised to see she hadn´t had even a tiny bit of work.

I´m doing it her way. Long hair and all. Not as beautiful as Bacall, of course, but still with strength. Very, very few people try to patronize me.

Thanks for posting, OP.

A good lesson why young beauties and hamdsome boys should not refer to the old with nasty names, Old Wrinkle face, Geezers, etc etc as they will one day be one themselves, and perhaps not as graceful as Lauren.

As an elderly man I accept my wrinkles as proof I´ve been down the road a piece, and that I have more hair on the back of my head than on top.

I like the phrase that when we die, go sliding into that grave like sliding into home base and yell "WOW what a ride".

What difference do her political views make? As Americans, we have the right to support any political party we choose. It´s not like she had any real power. I give her credit for not going the plastic surgery route that so many others in Hollywood take. They aren´t fooling anyone.

And yes, of course Hollywood stars play NO ROLE whatsoever in politics, and have no power at all to affect the narrative.

Even after learning the truth of the Hollywood CPUSA gang, she refused to disavow liberalism.

Lois Lerner, the former IRS director accused of using her position to delay nonprofit applications to scores of conservative and tea party groups, has broken her wall of silence in a sit-down interview with Politico to say: “I didn’t do anything wrong.” “I’m proud of my career and the job I did for this country,” she told Politico. Many in the United States — as well as Capitol Hill — disagree. Ms. Lerner, who’s no longer with the IRS, is having difficulty finding another place of employment, Politico reported. The 33rd person shot in Chicago since Friday afternoon walked into Mount Sinai Hospital just after 1:20 a.m. Monday bleeding from wounds to his neck and back. He had been on his side of a gang border in Little Village when someone opened fire, police said. Neighbors heard the shots and called 911, but responding officers found nothing until the man was dropped off at the hospital, a few fast miles up Ogden Avenue past the police station where officers would respond to the shooting. Once police had a better idea of where to look, they found shell casings and

The blaze in Eldorado National Forest has grown to encroach on the Tahoe National Forest, officials said. It grew to 82,018 acres and was 10% contained as of Sunday morning, and more than 5,200 firefighters are battling the

It was once said, “religion is designed to comfort the afflicted and to afflict the comfortable.” Jesus’ parables – short stories with moral lessons – were likewise designed to afflict, to draw us in but leave us uncomfortable. These teachings can be read as being about divine love and salvation, sure. But, their first listeners – first century Jews in Galilee and Judea – heard much more challenging messages. Only when we hear the parables as Jesus’ own audience did can we fully experience their power and find ourselves surprised and challenged today. Here are four examples of Jesus’ teachings that everybody gets wrong: 1.

Fellow soldiers and other critics fear the military’s now-delayed investigation is shaping up to be a whitewash. The case has become a political powder keg for President Obama. Since he traded five imprisoned Taliban leaders for Bergdahl, the US Government Accountability Office has declared the swap illegal, and nearly two dozen House Democrats have joined Republicans in officially condemning the move for making “Americans less safe.”
