Tennessee court breaks winning
streak for marriage equality

MSNBC, by Steve Benen

Original Article

One after another, lawsuits were setting them up and courts were knocking them down. Following last year’s Supreme Court ruling that rejected the Defense of Marriage Act as unconstitutional, state and federal courts nationwide have ruled against gay marriage bans from coast to coast. It was a remarkable, uninterrupted streak of success for civil-rights proponents, spanning more than two dozen courts. Yesterday, however, we learned that the streak was broken. For the first time in nearly fourteen months, a state’s ban on same-sex marriage has withstood a constitutional challenge in court. A state judge in Tennessee ruled last week that “neither

Marriage "equality". There has NEVER been any kind of discrimination against men or women concerning marriage. As a straight woman, I couldn´t marry a woman either. A straight man couldn´t marry a man. Same rules for everyone, straight or gay. This inequality crap is tiresome.

In 1973 the Supreme Court tried to settle the contentious issue of abortion for all time by judicial fiat in its Roe vs. Wade decision. Today the issue is as contentious as ever. Moreover, by intruding into the legislative arena with judge-made-law, our politics were forever poisoned. Since judges had lifetime appointments and were now our true legislature, the little power we retained in electing the people who pick judges became a blood sport.

You would think this lesson would have been learned. Evidently not. If this ends up with the Supreme Court "discovering" a right to same sex marriage in their imaginary version of the Constitution the federal government will lose whatever legitimacy it still has with half of the population.

A government without legitimacy can go on for a long time, but when there is a crisis like war or depression it can collapse like a rotted out tree in a wind storm. America as a "failed state will make all of the apocalyptic movies you have ever seen look like child´s play.

Don´t worry liberals. Our State supreme court (liberals) will soon correct the problem and admonish this judge for daring to "bring back the good old days". Tennessee will soon rejoin the parade. Remember, Alexander (RINO-TN) won his primary against Joe Carr(TEA party) which means Tennessee is firmly in the RINO camp.

Thanks to his stonewalling of the House of Representatives investigation into the Fast and Furious scandal, in 2012 Eric Holder became the first Attorney General held in contempt by Congress. Maybe his resignation on Thursday will revive the story for the three broadcast network evening newscasts, but don´t count on it. With Sharyl Attkisson no longer working at CBS News, there is no broadcast journalist who has shown any interest in pursuing this disgraceful story. In fact, as the MRC documented after the 2012 re-election of President Obama, Holder´s Fast and Furious scandal was just one of the many stories the

In light of a federal judge denying a request from the Department of Justice to delay the release of a long-sought after Fast and Furious document list, the sister of Border Patrol Agent Brian Terry, Kelly Terry-Willis, doesn´t find the timing of Attorney General Eric Holder´s resignation to be a coincidence. The resignation — if that’s what it is — of Attorney General Eric Holder signals the end of one of the most divisive tenures in the history of the cabinet. It was no doubt inevitable after Mr. Holder was determined, in a bi-partisan vote, to be in criminal contempt of the 112th United States House. He became the only sitting cabinet officer in history to be so found. He reacted to the contempt finding with more contempt. From that point on his tenure in office was unsustainable. “For low-income students, the problem is poverty. Until we solve that, they’ll never realize their potential in school.” We’ve all heard this argument—it’s knowing, realistic … and dead wrong. Of course, poverty throws up huge obstacles. And then great schools help students clear those barriers away. That’s the major message of Megan Sweas’s new book, Putting Education to Work, about the Cristo Rey Network of 28 Catholic high schools, on whose Board of Trustees I serve, and from which hail seven current Franklin & Marshall College students. And this message was echoed last week by Jane Genster, a senior leader
