(Video) A protest is being planned for Sunday in front of Los Angeles police headquarters in downtown after a man was shot and killed by an officer this week in Florence. The shooting occurred about 8:20 p.m. Monday after an officer conducted "an investigative stop" in the 200 block of West 65th Street, according to an LAPD news release. During the stop, a "struggle ensued" and the officer shot the person, whom police did not identify. Family members identified the man as 24-year-old Ezell Ford, who they described as "mentally challenged." His mother, Tritobia Ford, told KTLA her son was

The article does not mention race. Eric Holder may not intervene even though it was an African-American?

If I´m a cop, and I am working where I have to deal with any African-American people, I´m finding other work.

They can´t do their jobs, and they apparently aren´t allowed to defend themselves without protests and violence.

The biggest problem I find in these stories is using the term “unarmed”. It presupposes that a person is not dangerous without a tool to aid in their defense (or offence). Guns, knives, clubs and other tools are just that – tools that we use to aid us in actions. To say that because I do not have a tool in my hand I will not be a problem to those that choose to interfere with my life is foolishness. Those that call a gun on my desk dangerous without human intervention are crazy. Without human intervention a gun is just a lump of steel, plastic or whatever. Humans are dangerous, tools are only dangerous when put in the hands of criminals or negligent humans.

´African American´ or ´Black´ seem like reasonably acceptable terms but wonderful exceptions like Thomas Sowell and Clarence Thomas would seem to prohibit referring to this entire sub-group as ´mentally challenged´ even though it is so often the case.

just for the heck it, the two men I came closest to shooting in 22 years on LAPD both turned out to be "unarmed". One was an escaped felon who kept reaching for his waistband even with two cops drawn down on him about 15´ away, and the other who was about 20 yards away took a shooting stance and pointed a 6 inch length of rigid electrical conduit at me (sure looked like a gun to me). If there hadn´t been an intersection full of cars behind him, he´d be dead and the LA times headline would have read "LA COP KILLS UNARMED MENTALLY DISTURBED MAN". So for the know it alls out there, find out the real facts or ****. sorry, I got moderated.

When the controversy surrounding Senator Mary Landrieu´s (D-LA) use of taxpayer funds to pay for campaign travel first broke back in August, her Senate office spokesperson Matthew Lehner promised Landrieu would produce a full report of her travel activities "by the time" the Senate returned from its August recess and returned to session in September. By Thursday, the fourth day since the Senate´s September session began, Landrieu has produced diddly squat. Efforts to contact Lehner, who made that promise on her behalf, resulted in an automatic email saying that, as of September 2, he no longer worked in her congressional office.

But it still is a war, isn’t it, Mr. Secretary Kerry?“I think that’s the wrong terminology,” he sniffed yesterday. “What we are engaging in is a very significant counterterrorism operation.” Does that make it … a police action? There’s growing outrage that a possible act of jihad in the United States is being ignored. 19-year-old Brendan Tevlin was shot to death in New Jersey in late June. Authorities later charged Ali Muhammad Brown with murder. After his arrest, Brown said his motive was revenge for U.S. actions in the Middle East. This led to New York-area radio host Todd Pettengill sounding off on what he sees as an act of domestic terrorism. “If there was ever a reason to riot in the streets in the name of humanity, it would be for this case. Senators have a week to pass a short-term continuing resolution (CR) to keep the government funded after Sept. 30 and reauthorize the Export-Import Bank before they recess for midterm

As we suspected, President Obama tried in his Wednesday-night speech to make it sound like he was doing something new when he, in fact, he is not. Moreover, in describing his response, he made plain that he doesn’t take the threat to the homeland seriously. For a threat his advisers say is greater than that posed by al-Qaeda after 2001, he proposed measures suitable for Yemen and Somalia. No, really — that’s the plan. Rarely has a president faced a greater challenge in establishing his credibility for a new foreign-policy move than Barack Obama did in his nationally televised speech tonight. A CNN poll earlier this week found that just 30 percent of voters thought Obama had presented a clear plan for fighting the Islamic State. While Obama now pledges to ask Congress to train and aid Syrian rebels who would fight the group, voters remember that he backed similar plans in Syria in 2013, when his advisers saw Syrian president Bashar Assad as the major threat. President Obama just announced that he is bringing a counter-terrorism strategy to an insurgency fight. He was at pains to repeat the phrase “counter-terror” four times in a short speech. Noting that ISIL is not a state (partly because the international community thankfully does not recognize it), he declared, “ISIL is a terrorist organization, pure and simple. And it has no vision other than the slaughter of all who stand in its way.” Neither of those sentences, unfortunately, is true. Throughout his presidency, President Obama has emphasized one point while talking about Islamist extremists: They are not practicing Islam, he has said, they are perverting it. He took that a step further Wednesday night. While announcing that he´s expanding the campaign against the Islamic State extremist group into Syria, Obama said flatly that this group, which is trying to install a caliphate in the Middle East, "is not Islamic." Qua speech, Barack Obama’s address Wednesday on the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria was surprisingly terrible: a disorganized mess, insincere and unconvincing. To appreciate just how bad and bizarre it was, compare the president’s speech announcing a new air campaign in Iraq and Syria to Dwight Eisenhower’s 1958 statement on his decision to intervene in Lebanon with 14,000—14,000!—troops. The statement contains no chest-thumping about America’s leadership in science and medicine. No pivot to the auto industry and medical research.
