As developments continue to unfold in the case of Michael Brown in St. Louis, details are emerging about the police shooting death of an unarmed, 24-year-old black man in South Los Angeles. A vigil in response to the incident was scheduled for Tuesday evening in Los Angeles, said Officer Jane Kim, a spokeswoman for the Los Angeles Police Department. I´m sure Revs Al and Jackson are wetting their tidy whities. A reason to riot and steal. While I in no way condone shooting unarmed men, I´d like to know what they were doing. If a cop perceives violence from someone, they really have no choice. All we ever hear is they were unarmed. So why were they the focus of cops with guns?

In every one of these shootings, someone comes out with the ´Good Boy´, and he was following orders story.

If he did have mental health issues, and became belligerent, a policeman has the right to defend himself. In my county, all of the policemen and deputies are now wearing lapel microphones that record everything during the shift.

In order to completely stymie Sharpton et al, I suggest that all police officers of no color immediately be fired or laid off. Then, if unarmed blacks are shot at in the future, the racial question would be a non-issue. /s

What is with this "unarmed" stuff? Is this the old west or something?
The use of force decision can be based on many things and not exclusively whether or not someone is "armed".

The hunt for Eric Frein

It has been the talk of the Poconos, and at times the nation, for the past 16 days: The ambushing of state police officers at a remote barracks in Pike County and the subsequent massive manhunt for Eric Frein after police identified him as the shooter. As of 10 p.m. Saturday, Frein, 31, of Canadensis, is still on the loose, and the search has not only brought national attention to the Poconos, but disrupted the lives of many, but mostly those living in Price and Barrett townships, where the search has been centered for more than a week. It also has brought a sea of law enforcement into the area, with a state police official saying that

Air travelers Sunday likely can expect further delays and cancellations at Chicago airports as the Federal Aviation Administration worked to return traffic to normal this weekend after a fire Friday at the agency´s Aurora radar facility wreaked havoc on the nation´s air travel system. The FAA said Saturday that technicians were working to complete a “damage assessment and timeline for restoration of services” at the facility. Officials didn´t say when it would return to full service. The FAA said in a statement that it´s working “with the airlines that service the Chicago-area airports to minimize disruptions for travelers,” and that

Walmart has just announced it is moving forward this October with its latest evil plan to immiserate the American people: giving lower-income Americans cut out of the banking system access to a cheap checking account. The NYT: Walmart, the nation’s largest retailer, is teaming up with Green Dot, known for its prepaid payment cards, to supply checking accounts to almost anyone over 18 who passes an ID check. Daniel Eckert, senior vice president at Walmart, said on Tuesday that the accounts would be available nationwide by the end of October. The accounts are intended to be low-cost alternatives to traditional bank

For many, the Adrian Peterson child abuse case spanning Texas to Minnesota has been tough to grasp as, up until several weeks ago, he was viewed by most people who knew anything about him as a good man, not just a great football player for the Minnesota Vikings. Compounding matters is that the charges against him have exposed a parallel universe of baby making and child rearing that most Americans don’t get to see every day. But when they do, most find it hard to fathom. It’s not irrelevant to matters at hand that Peterson has fathered at least four children with perhaps four different women, including one who’s

Rand Paul, sources say, will stump for the Republican candidate in nearly every close Senate race between now and Election Day in November: for Thom Tillis in North Carolina, Joni Ernst in Iowa, Pat Roberts in Kansas, Terri Lynn Land in Michigan, and Ed Gillespie in Virginia. Paul was in New Hampshire campaigning with Scott Brown and the state GOP two weeks ago. “We are getting an insane amount of requests from everyone who’s running,” a Paul adviser says. North Carolina is the most interesting stop for Paul, who endorsed, contributed to, and campaigned with one of Tillis’s challengers, Greg Brannon,

As we count down Eric Holder’s greatest hits, the first image that comes to the mind of many Americans isn’t that of Brian Terry, or of Black Panthers outside polling places, but of a screaming child staring down the barrel of a rifle. On April 22, 2000, just before dawn, U.S federal agents executed a full-blown raid on the home of five year old Elian Gonzalez, seizing the child and setting in motion procedures to send Elian and his father back to Cuba. I was only a freshman in high school when this happened, but I remember seeing news stories about what

Government employees and politicians get preferential treatment from the Transportation Security Administration simply for being government employees and politicians. Meanwhile, everyone else is stuck in an “aviation security caste system” based on dozens of watchlists compiled by the TSA, FBI and other law enforcement agencies, along with a secret formula the TSA believes can sort passengers based on hypothetical analyses and conjecture. That’s the conclusion drawn by Hugh Handeyside, a staff attorney for the ACLU, who reviewed a recent audit of the TSA, every traveler’s favorite government pseudo-police force. The Texas doctor accused of poisoning her lover has been found guilty of aggravated assault. Dr. Ana Gonzalez-Angulo was charged after prosecutors say she spiked Dr. George Blumenschein´s coffee in 2013 with ethylene glycol, a sweet-tasting chemical found in antifreeze. “I am very grateful; justice has been served," Blumenschein said later at the sentencing phase of the trial. Gonzalez-Angulo and Blumenschein both worked as oncologists at the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston. When Kay Hagan voted for President Barack Obama’s 2009 economic stimulus package, the Democratic senator hailed it as “the best way forward for working families across North Carolina.” One of the families that later benefited is her own. JDC Manufacturing, a company co-owned by the Democratic senator’s husband, Chip, received nearly $390,000 in federal grants for energy projects and tax credits created by the 2009 stimulus law, according to public records and information provided by the company. Hagan’s GOP opponent, statehouse Speaker Thom Tillis, voted in 2010 to allow the state to participate in the federal renewable energy tax credit

Part of the answer can be found in Henry Olsen’s helpful analysis, from earlier this year, of how exactly Republican presidential primaries tend to shake out. Olsen offered a four-group typology of G.O.P. primary voters — secular conservatives, religious conservatives, moderate

We’re being had. Again. For six years, President Obama has endeavored to will the country into accepting two pillars of his alternative national-security reality. First, he claims to have dealt decisively with the terrorist threat, rendering it a disparate series of ragtag jayvees. Second, he asserts that the threat is unrelated to Islam, which is innately peaceful, moderate, and opposed to the wanton “violent extremists” who purport to act in its name. Now, the president has been compelled to act against a jihad that has neither ended nor been “decimated.” The jihad, in fact, has inevitably intensified under his counterfactual

When the U.S. military strikes, its leaders often choose colorful code names for the operation that sometimes stick in history, like Operation Overlord or Rolling Thunder or Desert Storm. Not this time. The U.S.-led air campaign against the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria doesn´t have a name. "I know of no plans at this point to name it," Pentagon spokesman Rear Adm. John Kirby said Thursday. Since World War II, almost every U.S. military operation, large and small, has had a code name. Political pollsters have a tough job. They have to create formulas to determine if the person they are interviewing is likely to vote, and it is within this calculation that their reputations are made. Typically, those who are likely to vote in an off-year election are pretty set. They are the people who always vote in elections — with some motivated by specific issues. In a wave election, the number of those motivated by specific issues escalates, changing the electoral landscape as the candidates who are beneficiaries of this increased participation sweep to victory. The 2014 election is rapidly looking like something new
