California may waive environmental

Los Angeles Times, by Marc Lifsher

The state would exempt Tesla Motors Inc. from some of its toughest environmental regulations as part of an incentive package being discussed with the automaker to build a massive battery factory in California, a key state senator said. (Snip) The plan being negotiated in the office of Gov. Jerry Brown could grant the automaker waivers for significant portions of the nearly half-century-old California Environmental Quality Act, Gaines said. The proposal is alarming some environmentalists. The governor´s pitch also includes a number of tax breaks for Tesla that could be worth as much as $500 million, or about 10% of the

So Tesla can move TO California and not pay the excessive state taxes.

Ironically, many businesses move OUT of California to avoid excessive state taxes.

You can´t tell the players without a program.

California would not be in such a world of hurt with businesses stampeding for the exits if the weenies in Sacramento would delete all those insane environmental and other criminally destructive laws and then just apply the law equally across the board.

I believe Tesla will rue the day they accepted the California liberals at their word and moved into the state.

Let me expound on Cuomo´s economic free zones, free from income taxes, business taxes, etc. for 10 years. All that means is the locals have to pick up the slack and when the 10 years is up, the business merely moves to another tax free zone and the scam continues. It happens all the time when the local goobermints offer tax incentives. Meanwhile, Cuomo brags about how wonderful his corruption is and the local taxpayer gets hosed.

Batteries that go into hybrid autos are often produced in China where air standards are lax. Don´t forget, those batteries typically last only 80K to 100K miles and then they have to be replaced. The cost is about $3,000 or more. That cost together with the initial premium paid when buying the car new, nullifies the gas cost advantage. So hybrids are not good for the environment nor do they save money.
