Roman Polanski´s sordid past continue to haunt him. The famed director of Rosemary´s Baby and Chinatown will not personally collect a lifetime achievement award from the Locarno Film Festival as originally planned. The Hollywood Reporter says media critics as well as local Swiss politicians blasted the decision to fete Polanski given his abuse of a pre-teen back in 1977. Court records showed Polanski gave a 13-year-old girl a Quaalude and Champagne before anally raping her. He spent 42 days in prison before fleeing the country rather than face the full force of the U.S. legal system. The director said he

Sadly, you know there are a lot of lie-berals out there thinking "What is wrong with these redneck jerks for not wanting to honor such a genius?!?!?"

Personally, I don´t feel the least bit bad about believing he should still be rotting in prison for his horrible child rape crime -- getting to experience being on the receiving end of a similar experience on a daily basis.

But I guess I´m just a redneck jerk...

Speaking today in Joplin, Missouri, VIce President Joe Biden overstated the deaths there in the 2011 tornado by 160,839: (snip) "161,000 brothers, sisters, mothers, fathers, sons, daughters, grandparents lost," said the vice president. But as Reuters reported in 2011, the death toll was in fact 161: The death toll from the May 22 tornado in Joplin, Missouri has been revised down to 161 with the discovery that one assumed victim died of other causes. After my article “Islamic State Atrocities: Products of Grievances’?” appeared, a reader sent me the following email, which makes similar points, specifically about Obama’s use of the word “expediency” to explain away Islamic State savageries: Dear Mr. Ibrahim, You are so correct to find Obama’s real point of view by paying close attention to his phraseology and vocabulary, something I find too few commentators take the time to do. Often one word, such as “grievances,” gives the whole show away. I read the transcript of Obama’s remarks made after the beheading of Mr. Foley — after which Obama returned to

In October 2014, the first patient on American soil infected with the Ebola virus sits in isolation in a Texas hospital, prompting calls for travel restrictions between the United States and Ebola-stricken countries. Meanwhile, four years ago, the administration of President Barack Obama moved with virtually no fanfare to abandon a comprehensive set of regulations which the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) had called essential to preventing international travelers from spreading deadly diseases inside the United States. The CDC had proposed the regulations in 2005 under the administration of George W. Bush, reported USA Today in 2010. The

WHEAT RIDGE, Colo. - At least two Colorado adults have died from complications from what may be enterovirus-68, the same strain that has afflicted hundreds, mostly children, across the country. Dr. Phil Emrie, a critical care pulmonologist at Lutheran Medical Center in Wheat Ridge, says he treated adult patients who suffered from conditions similar to the virus. “We don’t know for sure that it’s the enterovirus-68, but we do know that it’s consistent with the illness that they’re seeing in children,” Emrie said. That specific virus has been diagnosed primarily in children. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has

It’s the “Dawn of the Planet of the Apes.” A New York appeals court next week will consider whether chimps should have the same rights as human beings. The extraordinary proceeding is the result of a lengthy battle by animal-rights activists who argue that animals with human qualities — including chimps — are entitled to human protections, including freedom from captivity. Steven Wise, part of the Nonhuman Rights Project, which is leading the effort, will have to convince a panel of Albany appellate judges that a chimp name Tommy is a “legal person” to get him moved from a cage

The Ebola epidemic, says Dr Margaret Chan, director-general of the World Health Organisation (WHO), is now “the greatest peacetime challenge” since the Second World War. Yet her own organisation’s tardiness, partly caused by cuts, together with reductions in--and misuse of--funds elsewhere, are largely responsible for Ebola spiralling out of control. ATLANTA — Texas, America’s second-most populous state behind California, saw 13 of its last abortion clinics turn away women on Friday, after a federal appeals court upheld a law that practically guarantees that only a handful of clinics will remain open in the state. The strictest-of-its-kind Texas law requires abortion providers to build hospital-grade facilities and obtain sometimes impossible-to-get hospital admitting privileges. After signed into law last year by Gov. Rick Perry (R), the law forced most of the 41 clinics operating to close.
