Barack in Iraq
American Spectator, by Jed Babbin

President Bush, in the buildup to the 2003 Iraq invasion, said that our goal was an Iraq that was democratic, able to defend itself. and would be our ally in the global war against terrorism. None of those goals was achieved. Now, three years after President Obama withdrew American forces from Iraq, he’s dipping a military toe into Iraq again. The mission he’s described for our forces boils down to ensuring that the Democrats don’t get blamed for “losing” Iraq in the 2016 elections. If that seems harsh consider the facts, as Obama has described them, to justify the latest

"Obama is incapable of learning why his decisions usually have results that aren’t what he intended."

This is because BO is incapable of truly admitting he is wrong about anything. His enormous ego will not allow it.

This whole mess is the result of political parties that, for many reasons, refuse to accept the truth of the region, that extremist Islamic elements can only be kept in check by a very strong and sometime brutal opposition. The only thing worse than people like Sadam Hussein are the Islamic barbarians he held in check.

We have two choices, leave them to destroy themselves or squash them thoroughly and repeatedly as necessary until they can no longer rise up.

The first choice is not a real choice, only an attempt to delay our involvement. Hitler, left unchecked, eventually became a problem for the world. Fake appeasements only delayed our involvement.

BO and Liberals offer the country this false choice. BO is reaping the harvest of this foolhardiness and it is only going to get worse. It is time to have an adult conversation with the American people about realities in the world. We can run but we cannot hide. Eventually we will have to take action.

Iraq WAS democratic for a while, thanks to Bush. Remember the joyous faces and the purple thumbs? Smidgen destroyed all that. I hope that I live long enough to see him get his just desserts.

Top chefs, grocers choose farmed salmon

Farmed salmon is becoming the surprise darling of top chefs and food-loving home cooks. The pink fatty fish has long been dismissed as environmentally harmful, chemical-laden or simply not that tasty by many fish lovers. Now farmed salmon producers are courting high-end chefs and improving some aspect of how they farm to win over naysayers. Restaurants from Red Lobster to New York´s revered Le Bernardin say they must have some version of salmon on menus. "It´s the chicken of the sea," says Eric Ripert, co-owner and executive chef at Le Bernardin where a prix fixe seafood dinner is $135 a

Eric Holder has suddenly announced his retirement, declaring it was time to rebuild trust between police and minorities. (Snip) Ferguson is more than a small town. It is now a political bomb shelter. Both Holder and Obama are running for cover in the only place they know how to hide. For a storm is now fairly upon them. The new Iraqi prime minister announced the existence of an ISIS plot to attack subways in New York, London and Paris. Foreign Policy writes that “a bad moon is rising”. The Center for American Progress notes without embarrassment that in an age where stuff made by the greedy people has gotten cheap, the services provided by the well-intentioned are driving everyone to the poorhouse. (Snip) Since the consumer doesn’t directly pay the hospital, only the vast insurance system, most transactions are between huge impersonal medical centers and equally cyclopean insurance companies. The patient is just the pretext for the transaction, the name on the document. That allows hospital billing departments to charge astronomical amounts from eyeless bureaucracies for something that would be radically cheaper even at the hospital across the

In the year 1942, on the tropical island of Guadalcanal, two Marines independently created the most enduring superhero image of their generation. John Basilone and Mitchell Paige both won the Medal of Honor in the same spectacular fashion, by firing water-cooled Browning machine guns from the hip, mowing down their enemies by the dozen. Other men, like attack pilots and certainly submarine captains, might have dispatched more of the enemy, but none in so cinematic as manner of these two men, who wreathed in steam and gunsmoke, stood like Achilles astride the battlefield, possessed by an almost supernatural force so

Is it “kinetic military action”? Is it an “extended counterterrorism operation”? Is it war? Nah. Never war. (Snip) “War” would mean that America was actually out to win against ISIS/ISIL/ISI?. So far only ISIS has announced the intention of beating America. America just wants to manage ISIS/ISIL/ISI?. A bombing doesn’t make a war any more than Pearl Harbor did. And like Bluto said, ‘was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor?’ No way. It ain’t over. It ain’t even war. The only ‘war’ the world today is the War Against Ebola and the world is losing that.

Back in the 1930s intellectuals sometimes advised each other: don’t give to beggars, you’ll delay the revolution. Socialism has been described as a method of loving humanity so that you can be indifferent to your actual neighbor. Glenn Greenwald tries to solve a mystery. Why does the Muslim world hate Obama? (Snip) Obama’s popularity with Muslims in America can easily be explained by the fact that his mistakes haven’t affected them yet. Once American Sunni mosques are bombed by Shi’ites or vice versa, expect Obama’s popularity to drop. For once things come down to Muslim vs Muslim, as is happening elsewhere, it is the non-Muslim who they might rather have in charge. Eric Holder Jr., the nation´s first black U.S. attorney general, is preparing to announce his resignation Thursday after a tumultuous tenure marked by civil rights advances, national security threats, reforms to the criminal justice system and five and a half years of fights with Republicans in Congress. Two sources familiar with the decision tell NPR that Holder, 63, intends to leave the Justice Department as soon as his successor is confirmed, a process that could run through 2014 and even into next year. A former U.S. government official says Holder has been increasingly "adamant" about his desire to leave soon

Normally, no one would care that in a recent Atlantic essay — “Why I Hope to Die at 75” — 57-year-old Dr. Ezekiel Emanuel argued that living to be 75 years old was long enough for anyone. After 75, Emanuel suggests, “We are no longer remembered as vibrant and engaged but as feeble, ineffectual, even pathetic.” But Emanuel is no garden-variety crackpot. Nor is he a wannabe science-fiction writer dreaming of a centrally planned planet of robust youthful humanoids.
