The Eight Grossest Reactions
to Education Reform

Washington Free Beacon, by Bill McMorris

Original Article

Education reformer and former CNN host Campbell Brown has had to deal with a series of vile Twitter attack from teachers, trolls, and pornbots since launching her court challenge to teacher tenure. Esquire’s Charles P. Pierce set the tone for the debate when he posted a story headlined, “Who the Fck is Campbell Brown?” Pierce—a product of private, Catholic school—declared that her cadre of rightwing “mountebanks” and “grifters,” such as former Obama spokesman Robert Gibbs, are shilling for Wall Street. Pierce’s readers relied on public school language to voice their support for teachers unions and tenure.

Comments:
Those teachers wrote such lovely, delicate and flowery prose. I guess maybe someone hit a nerve. Teacher next door to me goes apoplectic "getting rid of tenure" comes up.

I thought Campbell Brown worked at NBC and MSNBC. CNN, too?

And the majority of teachers belong to the teachers union. Gladly paying into the union kitty to make sure their political philosophy of progressive, liberal, socialist, communist anti Christianity takes precedence over all students minds starting at as early age as possible. Continuing on into all higher level education that is more garbage than truth leading to the destruction of the students free thinking mind.

The article was unreadable. Tenure exists for a reason. Public education is rapidly evolving, we are in for a wild ride. Every good teacher I know is considering leaving. We may not be happy with the result of all the reforms.

Rep. James Clyburn, the third-ranking House Democrat, recently told a C-SPAN caller that “sexting” is an important tool for organizing voters. Clyburn seemed to confuse basic “texting” with “sexting” — which involves sending sexual messages or photos — during a Labor Day weekend appearance on C-SPAN to promote his new memoir. Clyburn, 74, told an anguished caller that Americans concerned about the Michael Brown and Trayvon Martin shootings should employ Twitter, Facebook and “sexting” to organize.

The Alaska U.S. Senate race has seen a “significant shift” in favor of Republican nominee Dan Sullivan, according to new polling data from The New York Times. Democratic freshman incumbent Mark Begich had been leading Sullivan, the state’s former attorney general and a former Bush administration official. But a disastrous ad campaign by Begich recently upended the race, and now, based on updated data from an online panel

Since winning a hard-fought primary against a tea party challenger, Sen. Pat Roberts (R-Kan.) seemed to rest on his laurels — failing to run any television advertising for the past month and returning to his home in Northern Virginia to recuperate after his victory. Now Roberts, 78, is the focus of an urgent political rescue operation led by the National Republican Senatorial Committee, which is deploying a veteran strategist and others to try to bolster his foundering campaign with less than nine weeks until the November election. The moves come in response to the sudden rise of Greg Orman, a

Does anyone actually believe this? I guess Kentucky Republicans who don’t pay attention to politics but who’ll end up deciding this year’s Senate race anyway do. God bless democracy. “We’re going to pass spending bills, and they’re going to have a lot of restrictions on the activities of the bureaucracy,” McConnell said in an interview aboard his campaign bus traveling through Western Kentucky coal country. “That’s something he won’t like, but that will be done. I guarantee it.”…

Sen. Mitch McConnell´s wife, former Labor Secretary Elaine Chao, sits on the board of an organization that has been part of a campaign against the coal industry and against tobacco use. The anti-coal news, first reported by Yahoo News, comes as McConnell campaigns for re-election, in part by trying to tie his opponent, Alison Lundergan Grimes, to President Barack Obama and his so-called "war on coal." The Senate minority leader is the top recipient of coal industry campaign contributions, which total more than $179,000, according to Federal Election Commission data compiled by the non-partisan Center for Responsive Politics. The conservative commentators who advocated a “path to citizenship” after the 2012 election bear partial blame for the current wave of illegal immigrants from Central America. Many of those who advocated for amnesty following the 2012 election are now complaining that people indeed came expecting that amnesty. But there is also an unbelievably bad policy at the root of the problem. (snip)It is not ironic at all that that a law intended “to combat human trafficking” has facilitated human smuggling. It is not ironic because this is precisely the outcome we should expect from immigration policy designed by multicultural elites.

A new Government Accountability Institute (GAI) report reveals that President Barack Obama has attended only 42.1% of his daily intelligence briefings (known officially as the Presidential Daily Brief, or PDB) in the 2,079 days of his presidency through September 29, 2014. The GAI report also included a breakdown of Obama’s PDB attendance record between terms; he attended 42.4% of his PDBs in his first term and 41.3% in his second. The GAI’s alarming findings come on the heels of Obama’s 60 Minutes comments on Sunday, wherein the president laid the blame for the Islamic State’s (ISIS) rapid rise squarely at

President Barack Obama has taken a lot of flack since his Sunday night “60 Minutes” interview, in which he blamed the intelligence community for his failure to tackle the threat posed by the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria. And that is right and proper. Because not only was his excuse of blaming us a lie, but when questioned on his lie, White House press secretary Josh Earnest doubled down with a whole new lie — both of which are easily, publicly proven false. On Sunday, Obama said the intelligence community had underestimated the rise of ISIS, saying in an interview

Former President Jimmy Carter claimed Wednesday that he would have been re-elected and beaten Ronald Reagan in 1980 if had been more “manly” in his dealings with Iran. Interviewed by the show "CNBC Meets," Carter repeated his belief that the failed mission to free American hostages held in Tehran killed his chances, but then added that had he gone to war, America would have rewarded him with a second term in 1980.

The Obama administration found itself scrambling on Tuesday to defend President Barack Obama for his lackluster 42% attendance record on daily intelligence briefings, a finding from a new report issued by the non-partisan Government Accountability Institute (GAI). When asked about the GAI revelation on Fox News, State Department spokeswoman Jen Psaki appeared flustered and unprepared. "Well, I have no validation of those statistics," said Psaki. "There are a range of ways that you can get your intelligence briefings on the road, in the White House, and I know that he receives those whenever he can."

The sympathetic news media is avoiding mentioning his name, instead they are blaming the lack of a football intro for the massive collapse in ratings Sunday night for President Barack Obama’s appearance on CBS’ 60 Minutes. Americans turned away from watching Obama even though he was being interviewed about the nation’s new war on ISIS. For example, Deadline Hollywood didn’t even mention Obama’s 60 Minutes interview when reporting on the drop in viewers. “With no football lead-in, CBS’ Sunday lineup fell from last week. Well, that didn’t take long. Just two weeks into the new season of “The View,” co-hosts Rosie O’Donnell and Whoopi Goldberg tore into each other during a commercial break — in front of their stunned studio audience. The spat erupted Thursday after Goldberg interrupted O’Donnell to go to a commercial break before the mother of five was finished commenting in a “Hot Topic” discussion about spanking children on the ABC gabfest. O’Donnell refuses to wear an earpiece to stay in contact with producers while the live show is airing, so she had no clue it was time to stop talking.

Kansas Tea Party supporters are threatening to sit out the state’s pivotal Senate election, potentially dealing another blow to the reelection hopes of Sen. Pat Roberts (R-Kan.). Sacramento, Calif. - Gov. Jerry Brown on Tuesday signed legislation imposing the nation's first statewide ban on single-use plastic bags, driven to action by a buildup of litter and damage to aquatic ecosystems. A national coalition of plastic bag manufacturers immediately said it would seek a voter referendum to repeal the law, which is scheduled to take effect in July 2015. Under SB270, plastic bags will be phased out of large grocery stores starting next summer and convenience stores and pharmacies in 2016. The law allows grocers to charge a fee of at least 10 cents for using paper bags. State Sen. Alex Padilla, D-Los Angeles,
