Fed Official Warns ‘Disappointing’
Growth Could Foretell Future

New York Times, by Nelson D. Schwartz

Sounding a somber note even as the economic outlook in the United States brightens, the Federal Reserve’s No. 2 official acknowledged on Monday that global growth had been “disappointing” and warned of fundamental headwinds that might temper future gains. The official, Stanley Fischer, who took over as vice chairman of the Fed in June, noted that although the weak recovery might simply be fallout from the financial crisis and the recession, “it is also possible that the underperformance reflects a more structural, longer-term shift in the global economy.” In a speech delivered on Monday in Stockholm at a conference organized

Debt always foretells a rising headwind and a future of no growth. It´s called living within your means until you pay off the creditors. But everywhere and in every time, governments have inflated off their debts. This one will too, but they will call it something else, and tell you that it is doing you a lot of good.

Global economy - what could possibly be wrong apart from demonizing business and savers, devaluing currencies, embracing immigration of low skilled / high need groups, ignoring proven energy resources and hating the roots of Western civilization which historically made a worthwhile future possible (art, literature, music and the Judeo-Christian concept of the sanctity of the individual apart from adherence to politically correct concepts or their worth to society as producers) while embracing abortion, selfishness, tyranny in government and all the evils that flow from ignoring our elected officials will-to-power and absolute disdain for ethics, honor, logic and personal accountability.

Economist sez:
It might be this, it might be that, or maybe not.

The 4% seemed phoney to me too. I expect the revision will be to 2.7%.

#4, the revision could be below 1%. Until the fedgov gets its teeth kicked in regulations-wise expect more of this without an end in sight. Remember there is nothing in the original ´un-libtard-interpreted´ constitution that allows the fedgov to mess with your lives.

The failed Scottish vote to pull out from the United Kingdom stirred secessionist hopes for some in the United States, where almost a quarter of people are open to their states leaving the union, a new Reuters/Ipsos poll found. Some 23.9 percent of Americans polled from Aug. 23 through Sept. 16 said they strongly supported or tended to support the idea of their state breaking away, while 53.3 percent of the 8,952 respondents strongly opposed or tended to oppose the notion. The urge to sever ties with Washington cuts across party lines and regions, though Republicans and residents of rural Western

The artificial sweeteners that are widely seen as a way to combat obesity and diabetes could, in part, be contributing to the global epidemic of these conditions. Sugar substitutes such as saccharin might aggravate these metabolic disorders by acting on bacteria in the human gut, according to a study published by Nature this week. Smaller studies have previously purported to show an association between the use of artificial sweeteners and the occurrence of metabolic disorders. This is the first work to suggest that sweeteners might be exacerbating metabolic disease, and that this might

When talking to national media outlets, Gov. Bobby Jindal has said over and over again that his current top priority is helping Republicans in the November elections. The Louisiana governor has said he won´t be making any decision about his own 2016 presidential campaign until 2015, in part to concentrate on getting Republicans elected in this year´s congressional and gubernatorial campaigns. "We´re focused right now on winning a bunch of races. I´d like to see us win the Senate, keep the House. We´ve got 36 governors races," Jindal told national radio host Hugh Hewitt in an August interview.

How can the DOJ conduct an investigation into unlawful aspects of the IRS targeting of specific 501(c)(4) groups, when the DOJ is the initiating body for the illegality they are seeking to investigate? Workers at a state-of-the-art solar plant in the Mojave Desert have a name for birds that fly through the plant´s concentrated sun rays — "streamers," for the smoke plume that comes from birds that ignite in midair. Federal wildlife investigators who visited the BrightSource Energy plant last year and watched as birds burned and fell, reporting an average of one "streamer" every two minutes, are urging California officials to halt the operator´s application to build a still-bigger version. The investigators want the halt until the full extent of the deaths can be assessed. Estimates per year now range from a

Dozens of government watchdogs are sounding the alarm that the Obama administration is stonewalling them, in what is being described as an unprecedented challenge to the agencies they´re supposed to oversee. Forty-seven of the government´s 73 independent watchdogs known as inspectors general voiced their complaints in a letter to congressional leaders this week. They accused several major agencies -- the Justice Department, the Peace Corps and the chemical safety board -- of imposing "serious limitations on access to records." The inspectors general are now appealing to Congress to help them do their jobs uncovering waste, fraud, and mismanagement.

That rare respiratory illness sickening children around the country continues to crop up in new places. It has been confirmed in 22 states, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said Friday, appearing in three states where it had not been previously: Georgia, Michigan and Washington state. These children are facing an uncommon enterovirus strain. While enteroviruses in general are quite common, this particular strain — enterovirus 68 — has not cropped up terribly often since it was first identified in 1962. It can cause severe breathing problems, a particular danger for children who may suffer from asthma or other

The security breach triggered a rare evacuation of much of the White House, with Secret Service officers drawing their guns as they rushed staffers and journalists out a side door.

The French did for President Obama on Friday what they refused to do for his predecessor — they joined the fight in Iraq. Two Rafale fighter planes armed with laser-guided bombs “entirely destroyed” an Islamic State munitions depot and killed dozens of ISIS fighters, making France the first coalition country to make good on its promise to battle the murderous militants. “Other operations will follow in the coming days with the same goal — to weaken this terrorist organization and come to the aid of the Iraqi authorities,” French President Francois Hollande vowed.
