Civilization versus barbarism
Washington Times, by Scott S.Powell

Recently, Pope Francis declared that “the persecution of Christians today is even greater than in the first centuries of the church, and there are more Christian martyrs today than in that era.” The slaughter of as many as 500,000 Christians in South Sudan since 2011 may not have received the attention it deserved. However, now the religious cleansing of Christians in Iraq resulting from Islamic jihadists’ conquest of lands Christians had called home since the first centuries A.D. cannot be ignored. In a region where Christians and Muslims had previously lived in relative peace side by side for centuries, the past 10

Islam has traditionally conquered and converted ´by the sword´. This method was practiced by Mohammed himself. It is one type of ´jihad´. It is also part of being a good Muslim.

The Gateway Pundit can now confirm from two local St. Louis sources that police Officer Darren Wilson suffered facial fractures during his confrontation with deceased 18 year-old Michael Brown. Officer Wilson clearly feared for his life during the incident that led to the shooting death of Brown. This was after Michael Brown and his accomplice Dorian Johnson robbed a local Ferguson convenience store. Local St. Louis sources said Wilson suffered an “orbital blowout fracture to the eye socket.” This comes from a source within the District Attorney’s office and confirmed by the St. Louis County Police.

Twitter, Obama and the Gen.

Major General Harold Greene, the first U.S. general to die in combat since Vietnam, was buried in Arlington National Cemetery on Aug. 14. At the time of the funeral, President Obama was on the course at the Vineyard Golf Club in Edgartown, Mass. As the president vacationed, the question of whether he should have attended the funeral set off an occasionally ugly, and certainly instructive, series of events on the Internet. On Friday morning, the blog Legal Insurrection posted an item headlined "Guess who was missing at funeral of highest ranking officer killed in combat since Vietnam War." The post included

Ten years ago, I visited a one-room schoolhouse in a remote village in Honduras—a community with no electricity, where most families eked out a living as small-scale coffee farmers. I asked a group of students who, if anyone, planned to migrate to the United States. I expected a few hands to go up. Instead, every single child in the room raised his or her hand. These children were not fleeing gang violence. They lived in a placid—though desperately poor—little hamlet where gangs were but a distant symbol of urban delinquency and danger. Like most of the Hondurans who have migrated to

Less than a week after Texas Gov. Rick Perry (R) was indicted by a grand jury on two felony counts, he may be in an even stronger political position than he was before the charges hit. Several prominent Republicans have spoken out on Perry´s behalf. Conservative activists in Iowa and New Hampshire aren´t shying away. Even a well-known Democratic strategist has suggested the case against him may be flimsy. For a politician who is openly weighing another run for president, it´s a welcome turn of events: While politicians embroiled in legal fights of this magnitude typically find few public allies, Perry has

A watchdog group on Monday sued the U.S. government, accusing the Obama White House of interfering in and thwarting the release of public documents under the Freedom of Information Act. The lawsuit filed in the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia by the group Cause of Action (CoA) names 12 federal agencies that delayed the release of documents so officials could consult with White House under a new process established in spring 2009. The process, which gave White House officials review authority over documents that federal agencies wanted to release that mentioned the White House or presidential aides,

Hillary Clinton alienates liberals with

Hillary Rodham Clinton hugged out her differences with President Obama on Wednesday night, but she may need to save some of that affection for disenchanted liberals who fear the Democratic party’s 2016 front-runner is acting more like a thinly veiled neoconservative. After her harsh critique of Mr. Obama’s foreign policy in an interview published last week, the two talked by phone Tuesday and met in person Wednesday at a private party on Martha’s Vineyard. The White House said the president and first lady “were happy to have the chance to spend time” with Mrs. Clinton.

There are some nonviolent Palestinians, but they get crowded out by Hamas—and the Israelis, who aren’t exactly nonviolent either. For my entire adult life I’ve heard this same question time and time again: “Why isn’t there a Palestinian Martin Luther King?” Or in the alternative: “Why isn’t there a Palestinian Gandhi?” Some have posed this with the sincere intention of being helpful. Others have raised it more as a way to further their own narrative that all Palestinians are violent. Regardless of the questioner’s motivation, it’s worth asking: could a Palestinian Dr. King actually lead Palestinians to the “promised land”? Or is

According to a statement released by his wife Thursday, late comedian Robin Williams was in the early stages of Parkinson’s disease at the time of his suspected suicide earlier this week. Williams’ wife Susan Schneider said Williams was sober at the time, but that he had continued to tackle depression. She said he was not ready yet to publicly disclose his Parkinson’s diagnosis. Parkinson’s is a progressive nervous disorder that limits movement; while treatable, no cure is known. Schneider’s full statement is below:

Throughout 2011 and well into 2012, President Obama’s White House barred Hillary Clinton’s State Department from even talking directly to the moderate Syrian rebels. This was only one of several ways the Obama team kept the Clinton team from doing more in Syria, back before the revolution was hijacked by ISIS and spread into Iraq. The policy feud has flared up again in recent weeks, with Clinton decrying Obama’s Syria policy, Obama’s inner circle hitting back, and the president himself calling criticism of his Syria moves “horseshit.” Obama and his former secretary of state promised to patch things up at a

Violence continues in Ferguson, Missouri. It began on August 9 with the death of Michael Brown, an unarmed African-American teenager cut down by a white cop’s bullets. Peaceful demonstrations turned into looting, the local police went in with rubber bullets and tear gas, all hell broke loose and, eventually, Missouri’s governor pulled out the local police and sent in state officers instead. But the rioting only paused; it didn’t cease. [Snip] Observers might ask, “How can this be happening in an America that has elected a black president?” How can black kids still get killed by white cops and how

FERGUSON, Missouri — It was a little after 9 p.m., and I was in the McDonald’s parking lot, standing by my car. A police helicopter circled overhead, its spotlight sweeping back and forth. Then I heard the sound of shattering glass: A rubber bullet had been fired through a window of McDonald’s, which until then, had been one of the few sanctuaries on West Florissant Avenue. Now I didn’t feel safe anywhere. State troopers in riot gear and armored trucks moved south on West Florissant, firing flash grenades and tear gas canisters at a crowd of protesters who only minutes before had been

Since the Aug. 9 shooting death of Michael Brown, the nation and the world have witnessed the unrest that has gripped Ferguson, Mo. At the core of these demonstrations is a demand for answers about the circumstances of this young man’s death and a broader concern about the state of our criminal justice system. At a time when so much may seem uncertain, the people of Ferguson can have confidence that the Justice Department intends to learn — in a fair and thorough manner — exactly what happened. From nearly 1,000 miles away, several Redskins players used the Monday Night Football stage to draw attention to the situation that has been unfolding in Ferguson, Missouri by running onto FedExField with their hands up in the air. Ferguson is where unarmed 18-year-old Michael Brown was shot and killed by a white police officer on Aug. 9. Witnesses have said he was not aggressive toward the officer and had his hands raised above his head before he was shot. As a result, the words “hands up, don’t shoot” have become a rallying cry of protesters, both in Ferguson and online.
