Iraqi court ´backs PM Nouri
Maliki´ in row with president

BBC News [UK], by Staff

Original Article

Iraqi state TV says a top court has ruled that PM Nouri Maliki´s bloc is the largest in parliament, in a boost to his bid to stay on for a third term. The decision would mean the president, who Mr Maliki criticised for not intervening when parliament failed to appoint him, should ask him to remain. But Arab media cast doubt on the report, carrying an apparent statement by the court denying any decision. [Snip] Critics say Mr Maliki, a Shia, has precipitated the current crisis through sectarian policies. Sunnis, Kurds and even fellow Shia have urged him to go.

Intelligence officials from the United States have been stunned by claims by the Iraqi Prime Minister that ISIS militants are planning to carry out terror attacks on the New York and Paris subways. Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi today claimed to have received ´credible´ information from intelligence officials in Baghdad that foreign fighters belonging to ISIS were plotting attacks. Asked if the attacks had been thwarted, he said, ´No´ but added that America had been alerted. The U.S. National Security Council was quick to say there was no evidence to suggest any such plot exists but adding it would look into any evidence.

David Cameron last night urged Britain to shake off the spectre of the Iraq war and back potentially years of RAF strikes against the ‘psychopathic murderers’ of Islamic State. MPs have been scrambled for an emergency recall of Parliament tomorrow to sanction bombing raids on terrorist positions in northern Iraq. All three party leaders indicated support for air strikes, and the attacks are expected to begin as early as tomorrow night. But the Prime Minister said the fight against Islamic terrorism could last for years. Mr Cameron, who last night held talks with Iraqi prime minister Haider al-Abadi to finalise military plans, stressed that

He was joined in the skies by the United Arab Emirate´s first female air force pilot, Major Mariam Al Mansouri, 35, whose F-16 fighter was one of several from a group of Arab nations that are blitzing Isis. Islamic State crisis:

The US-led coalition against Islamic States (IS) has targeted oil refineries in Syria during a third night of air strikes against the militants. The raids - carried out by US, Saudi and UAE aircraft - killed 14 IS fighters and five civilians in eastern Syria, activists said. The US military said the refineries generated as much as $2 million (£1.2m) per day in revenue for IS. US President Barack Obama has vowed to dismantle the IS "network of death". Former Charleston Police Chief Reuben M. He was 71. Mayor Joe Riley said Greenberg--the city´s first and only black police chief--will long be remembered as a pioneer and innovative pace-setter who led the force at a time when Charleston was growing again in terms of national prominence. NEW YORK--The international system on which the United States relies is failing to "keep pace" with an interconnected world, President Barack Obama said on Wednesday, in a somber speech on the state of global affairs. [Snip] In a speech delivered at West Point in May, billed by the White House as an outline of his organizing principles as commander-in-chief, Obama said that international institutions were built on a rule-book written by the United States. President Barack Obama saluted a pair of United States Marines on Tuesday while holding what appeared to be a styrofoam cup in his saluting hand, a breach of military regulations that won´t win him fans among veterans and servicemen. Obama is known for drinking tea, not coffee, when he travels, especially before delivering speeches. His quasi-saluting gesture was an instant embarrassment for the White House, and not because his environmentally taboo drinkware clashed with the green-policy speech he was on his way to deliver at a UN Climate Summit. President Obama on Wednesday delivered a speech at the United Nations filled with his usual soaring rhetoric of global collectivism and the importance of “international norms.” But the president also displayed a shocking naivete about global affairs, religion, Islam — a Pollyannaish interpretation on the state of the world and America’s role in it. Although Mr. Obama won a Nobel Peace Prize just eight months into office, the president made his annual trip to the ineffectual world council to deliver a call to war. “Ladies and gentlemen, we come together at a crossroads between war and peace,

So this video of The View’s women grappling with the Obama administration’s response to ISIS terrorism is noteworthy. I want to highlight O’Donnell’s contribution near the end: We are bombing Syria because Syria has so much oil, so there is a “financial incentive.” What the Hell is this supposed to mean? Why are liberals obsessed with oil? And what, exactly, is the “financial incentive?” Here is the
