Wendy Davis plays rape
card on Greg Abbott

Legal Insurrection, by Amy Miller

Down in the polls, Wendy Davis reaches for the gutter with ad suggesting Greg Abbott is soft on rape. Wendy Davis’s run for governor against Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott is one of the most high profile top-ticket races in the country. The political class (if not yet voters at large) is keeping a close eye on the back-and-forth battle for control of the narrative, and the latest ad from the Wendy Davis campaign has ignited a firestorm of controversy. The ad, titled “A Texas Story,” tells the story of a woman from Seguin, Texas who was raped in her home by

Comments:
Davis´s appeal is to Texas women, who are supposed to feel undefended by the example of Greg Abbott´s vote as a Texas Supreme Court Justice. I don´t know any Texas woman who feels the anger Davis is trying to highlight or exploit.

Take away the lies, deceptions, and gross exaggerations from the democrats, and you will leave them speechless in every election campaign.

Never elect a democrat for any public office. Democrats do not know how to govern; they only know how to rule.

The race is closely watched because the Democrats have a fantasy about "turning Texas blue."

The threat should be taken seriously, but if Davis is trotting this out so early in the campaign its a sign of lack of substance.

Abortion - her calling card - is not an issue to decide any important race.

After reading accounts of Wendy´s early adult life I concluded she must be related to, or at least studied, the life of that augmented blonde bimbo who married herself an old Texas grandpa worth hundreds of millions of dollars, and then apparently OD ed on drugs while trying to inherit a bushel of million dollar bills.

The major difference in the stories is that Wendy´s sugar daddy´s sugar plantation was much smaller than the bimbo whose name I can´t remember.

Maybe Wendy´s ambitions should have led her to seek a career in show biz -- she has the "attributes" for a role in a sit-com such as "Designing Women".

Claytie Williams lost his own race and Ann Richards benefited. Texas voters were repelled by Williams´ ugly joke and the atmosphere in which he told it. But, Greg Abbott is known and loved by Texas voters. We aren´t going to believe that his legal opinion was a callous disregard of a rape victim. We know his legal opinion was on the facts of the case and the legal briefs in front of him.

Greg Abbott is not Clayton Williams and, even more to the point, Wendy Davis is no savvy, politically wired-in Ann Richards.

As Texas debates the implementation of some of the strictest abortion laws in the country, for at least three female lawmakers and candidates in that state, the debate has become intensely personal. The most high-profile of the three, of course, is gubernatorial hopeful and state Sen. Wendy Davis (D), who revealed recently in her memoir that she had medical procedures to end two pregnancies. “Our baby had a severe brain abnormality,” Davis said in a television interview. “We knew that the most loving thing that we could do for our daughter was to say goodbye.” Davis, now trailing badly in her campaign, made

In his speech to the United Nations last week, President Obama pledged to the world that the United States would use its might to stop the horrific depredations of the terrorist movement variously known as the Islamic State, ISIS, or, as he calls it, ISIL. “This group has terrorized all who they come across in Iraq and Syria,” the president proclaimed. “Mothers, sisters, daughters have been subjected to rape as a weapon of war. What can you tell about a restaurant from its menu? A lot more than what´s cooking. That´s what linguist Dan Jurafsky reveals in his new book, The Language of Food: A Linguist Reads the Menu. Jurafsky, a professor of linguistics at Stanford, looked at hundreds of examples of food language—from menus to marketing materials to restaurant reviews. In attempting to downplay the political damage from a slew of second-term controversies, President Obama has counted on the American people having a very short memory span and a healthy suspension of disbelief. Holder said the money would pay for nearly 950 new officers, who will mostly take on the job of community policing aimed at reducing street crime. The grant gives police departments the money to

The inequality police are worried that we are living in a new Gilded Age. We should be so lucky: Between 1880 and 1890, the number of employed Americans increased by more than 13 percent, and wages increased by almost 50 percent. I am going to go out on a limb and predict that the Barack Obama years will not match that record; the number of employed Americans is lower today than it was when he took office, and household income is down. Grover Cleveland is looking like a genius in comparison. The inequality-based critique of the American economy is a fundamentally
