Taxpayer funds spared as judge tosses
lawsuit from Iraq war contractor KBR

Washington Times, by Jim McElhatton

A federal judge last week tossed out a complaint from wartime contractor KBR, in a case the Justice Department said could have ended up leaving taxpayers on the hook for ever-increasing costs from the war in Iraq. The more than yearlong dispute centered around how KBR should be paid as the contractor winds down the nearly $38 billion logistics contract used to support troops in Iraq. KBR wanted to continue billing the government on a cost-reimbursable basis, meaning the company gets paid costs plus a fee as the expenses are incurred. But Army officials want KBR to provide a fixed fee, meaning the company would

Comments:
It´s ironic that the government is upset with KBR smacking them with their legal defense bills as this is what government officials do to the tax payer ad nauseam.

KBR must be a Republican firm, otherwise no expense would have been withheld with the taxpayer footing the bill. When federal contracts are cancelled, the rules come from the Federal Acquisition Regulations. This must be another law Barry didn´t like and informed the judge accordingly.

Egypt Orders Arrest of Men
Over ´Gay Marriage´ Video

Cairo - Egyptian authorities have ordered the arrest of nine men who appeared in a video purporting to show the country´s first gay marriage, accusing them of inciting debauchery and undermining public morals. Gay marriage is not legal in Egypt, a conservative Muslim society where the footage, which went viral on social media sites last month, has caused a stir online. Though homosexuality is not specifically outlawed in Egypt, discrimination is rife. Arrests of gay men occasionally make headlines and the accused are typically charged with debauchery, immorality or blasphemy, drawing criticism from rights groups.

Tbilisi - The United States said it launched four air strikes against Islamic State militants threatening the Haditha Dam in western Iraq on Sunday, broadening its campaign against the fighters. It was Washington´s first offensive into Iraq´s western Anbar province since it started air strikes on Islamic State forces in the north of the country in August. "At the request of the Government of Iraq, the U.S. military today conducted coordinated air strikes against Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) terrorists in the vicinity of the Haditha Dam in Anbar province," said Pentagon spokesman Rear Admiral John Kirby.

Llopango, El Salvador — Marvin Gonzalez waves to shopkeepers as he enjoys a morning walk through the sunny, working-class resort of Ilopango. His cellphone rings nonstop with residents seeking his support for anything from dealing with a drunk who won´t pay his bar bill to reporting an attempted rape. Gonzalez is not a police chief, nor a politician. The 31-year-old plug of a man is the local leader of the Mara Salvatrucha, a gang formed by Central American immigrants in California and now designated by the U.S. as a transnational criminal organization. But in Ilopango and communities across El Salvador,

Salt Lake City - The Mormon church and four other religious organizations are asking the U.S. Supreme Court to intervene and settle once and for all the question of whether states can outlaw gay marriage. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, in a statement Friday, said it joined a friend-of-the-court brief asking the high court to hear Utah´s marriage case. Also taking part in the filing were The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops, the National Association of Evangelicals, the Ethics & Religious Commission of the Southern Baptist Convention and the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod. President Obama will give a speech next week outlining his strategy for taking on the threat posed by ISIS, ABC News has learned. The president will use the speech to outline the nature of the threat -- serious, but not an imminent threat to the homeland -- and the strategy for confronting it. It is not expected that he will make any major new announcements such as a decision on Syria air strikes, but he will describe the efforts he is already taking, including air strikes in Iraq and building an international coalition. In other words, the president wants to leave no doubt he does in fact have a strategy for taking on ISIS despite his words two

Washington - The death and mayhem in southeast Ukraine is a barrel of laughs for snickering Russian diplomats, who are sending out cheeky tweets mocking the United States and other critics of their country’s invasion of its neighbor. (Snip) Russia’s foreign ministry, rather than condemning the snarky gag, re-tweeted it to its 53,000 followers, giving it a seal of Kremlin approval. The tweet references an array of intelligence indicators that Russia is funding and supporting pro-Russian separatists, and even sending its own troops and weaponry across the border. US officials condemned the Twitter gag.

A new partnership with a Cook County hospital is allowing military medical personnel access to the trauma patients that it serves in Chicago, which is grappling with so much gun violence on its South and West sides that some people have taken to calling the city “Chiraq.” “It’s important to get them this kind of training here, so they can see how to stop that bleeding and save that life,” Lt. The top Democrat on the House Intelligence Committee on Friday said new allegations that U.S. commandos were ordered to “stand down” during the 2012 attack in Benghazi, Libya, aren’t supported by findings from House and Senate investigators. Five commandos who survived the Benghazi attack, which claimed the lives of Ambassador Christopher Stevens and three other Americans, made the allegation in a new book, accusing the CIA station chief of delaying a rescue mission. Rep. Dutch Ruppersberger (D-Md.) said lawmakers never came across evidence indicating the station chief had told his team to “stand down” and abort a

The tax agency said in June that it could not locate an untold number of emails to and from Lois Lerner, who headed the IRS division that processes applications for tax-exempt status. The revelation set off a new round of investigations and congressional hearings. On Friday, the IRS issued a report to Congress saying the agency also lost emails from five other employees related to the probe,
