Romney got so much right
Chicago Sun-Times, by Steve Huntley

Original Article

Almost every day, it seems, brings a headline demonstrating how right 2012 Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney was, and how wrong President Barack Obama was, on the critical issues facing America. In 2012, Romney warned that Obama’s failure to secure an agreement to keep a residual military force in Iraq would threaten the U.S. gains made at such a high cost in American lives and treasure. “America’s ability to influence events for the better in Iraq has been undermined by the abrupt withdrawal of our entire troop presence,” Romney asserted. The chaos in Iraq today supports Romney’s view. With no

Comments:
The author is not pushing Romney for 2016, but simply stating that he was right on so many issues. Too bad so many voters willingly chose to believe countless lies.

He had his chance. A decent man, who would have made a competent President. But he was an awful campaigner in 2012, and would be even worse in 2016. Perhaps President Palin (Or Cruz, Martinez, Christie or whoever)could appoint him head of the Federal Reserve Board, or the Treasury.

I think one thing Romney got right, and was excoriated for, was that some 40+% of the electorate have no interest in government beyond what they get free of charge. Bread and circuses, that´s the bogey Republican candidates are up against in national elections.

John Fund writes that to win, Conservatives/Republicans must win decisively in order to overcome cheating and fraud by the Democrats.

To do that we must have super strong candidates who do not listen to all the customary (establishment) consultants. These consultants make the candidates tentative and skittish for fear of a tiny mistake. Romney was not the same candidate at the end of the campaign that he was at the beginning. He started strong and forceful and by the debates he was strong one last time and then faded to lose in the face of fraud on election night.

I´ll bet strong and forceful would have won over a bunch of the people who stayed home.

Unfortunately the "obozo is a decent father" crap was not the way to go. The republicans must eviscerate the candidate and keep doing it. The press will never like the republican candidate and trying to show how you can "reach across the aisle" ala McCain is death. Play it like Reagan and win. Play it like Paul Ryan and lose. It is just that simple.

In the last few weeks of the campaign, Romney and Ryan were drawing enormous crowds. In Ohio (I think) 60,000 people waited in the rain for five hours to see them. By contrast, Obama was lucky if he could draw 2000. Something happened, and it wasn´t good.

I´ve always respected Romney. He is a good man and a loyal American. He talks a lot of sense To demand 100% agreement on 100% of issues sets the bar way too high. He would have made a fine president.

But he ran an almost criminally incompetent campaign. This was obvious to many of us right from the start. He never seemed to know what hit him. He and his people were no match for the radical Left. This makes me wonder about his judgment.

As many as 500,000 people could be infected with Ebola virus disease by the end of January, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in Atlanta. The CDC estimate, due to be released this week, is based on “dynamic modeling” and assumes no additional aid to help battle the disease, a person familiar with the report told the Washington Post. Infectious-disease experts, aid workers and global health advocates said the number of Ebola cases is increasing much more rapidly than the World Health Organization, or WHO, had projected, especially in Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone, collectively the

On Sunday, a gaggle of queer folks will be joining the “People’s Climate March,” a rally in New York City projected to attract more than 100,000 attendees. Unfortunately, those who could help the cause the most are the least likely to show up. Marching under banners such as “Queers for the Climate,” LGBT climate activists are, first and foremost, agitating for action on climate change. But they are also saying something about what LGBT activism should be about, and saying something quite different from the (current) gay mainstream. The question is whether they can make an impact. One has to wonder just how often members of President Barack Obama´s national security team talk with each other. The federal government is famously gigantic, but the president´s Cabinet is not, particularly if you narrow it to the inner circle that crafts military and national security strategy. One would assume that it wouldn´t be all that difficult to prepare a coherent approach to an international crisis, particularly as Cabinet members testify before Congress amidst deep skepticism of the White House´s strategy to destroy the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS, or in the administration´s preferred acronym, ISIL). Three and a half months have come and gone and the Pentagon has offered no clarity on what happened to alleged Army deserter and Taliban collaborator Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl. Fellow soldiers and other critics fear the military’s now-delayed investigation is shaping up to be a whitewash. The case has become a political powder keg for President Obama. Since he traded five imprisoned Taliban leaders for Bergdahl, the US Government Accountability Office has declared the swap illegal, and nearly two dozen House Democrats have joined Republicans in officially condemning the move for making “Americans less safe.”

I know a lot of people are giddy at the prospect of Republicans taking the Senate this November, but that’s becoming less and less likely. It’s not because Democrats are rallying around a particular mission or set of candidates; it’s because Republicans and conservatives aren’t. It seems like I’m always writing on issues no one wants to hear are mistakes, such as messaging or social issues. But I don’t care. These things have to be said. If these columns are received like a gaseous cousin on a long car trip through the desert, so be it.
