A former New Jersey Republican official who once worked with Governor Chris Christie was found dead along with her husband inside their home, officials said on Friday, in what appeared to be a murder-suicide. Police discovered the bodies of Joan Bramhall and her husband, John, inside their Denville home on Thursday, but the Morris County Prosecutor´s Office declined to identify the victims until Friday. An autopsy revealed that Joan Bramhall was shot to death and her husband died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound, the prosecutor´s office said in a statement. The statement did not say that John Bramhall shot his

Great job Curtis: You managed to get "Republican" and "Cristie" in the first sentence even though neither has anything to do with the story. Next time you might want to throw in "Koch Brothers" and "George W. Bush" for good measure.

First, condolences to the family.

Second, I heard MSNBC was breaking into their weekend programming to discuss Chris Christie´s involvment in the case. Road cones were observed outside the house.

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. — Arkansas´ highest court ordered the immediate removal of a judge on Thursday for disclosing confidential details about an adoption involving actress Charlize Theron´s child and making off-color remarks in an online forum. The state Supreme Court accepted the lifetime ban that was agreed to by Faulkner County Circuit Judge Mike Maggio and the Arkansas Judicial Discipline and Disability Commission. But the court rejected the panel´s recommendation that he be suspended with pay until his term expires at the end of 2014, and instead ordered his immediate removal from the bench.

A “Fox & Friends” segment Monday morning on the video of running back Ray Rice knocking unconscious his then-fiancée inside a casino elevator took a bizarre twist when the hosts made light of the incident with a series of tasteless jokes. After reading serious tweets and emails sent from viewers, the Fox News hosts, Steve Doocy and Brian Kilmeade, segued into other celebrity-involved incidents of domestic violence. The men condemned both Rice’s now-wife, Janay Palmer, and singer Rihanna for “sending a terrible message” by staying with men who had abused them. And the men, sitting on either side of co-host

An aircraft chartered by coalition forces in Afghanistan, en route from Bagram air base to Dubai, landed Friday in Bandar Abbas, Iran, after Iranian officials questioned its flight plan, U.S. officials said. The plane had been contacted by Iranian air traffic controllers, who instructed it to return to Afghanistan and file the correct plan. When the pilots informed the Iranians they did not have enough fuel to return to Bagram, they were asked to land. One official said Iranian fighter jets had escorted the plane, which was carrying approximately 100 Americans and possibly a pair of Canadians, to the ground.

A Mississippi mother has launched an online campaign for justice after her little girl was allegedly severely beaten in a vicious playground attack last week. Disturbing images posted to the ´Justice for AvaLynn´ Facebook page by mother Lacey Harris reveal the kindergarten student´s bruising injuries, which her school claims happened when the five-year-old fell over. Harris refutes the official explanation from Arlington Elementary School and says that she wants a police investigation because her child´s injuries are simply too severe to have been caused by a fall.

An internal training guide used by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs compared veterans unhappy about their care to Oscar the Grouch, a newspaper reported. The Philadelphia Inquirer obtained a VA training slide show with tips for employees on how to help veterans with their claims. It was shown to VA employees staffing town-hall events with veterans in Philadelphia. About a dozen slides included pictures of the grumpy "Sesame Street" character who lives in a trash can. The slide show said that veterans might be demanding and unrealistic, and advised staffers on "what to say to Oscar the Grouch."

A driver pulled up to a ramp onto Interstate 95, got out, pumped several bullets into a popular panhandler in a wheelchair, then sped away — leading police on a 20-minute chase on residential streets and Interstate 95 before he was captured. Miami-Dade police took the shooter into custody before noon Tuesday, but did not release a name or give a motive for the killing, which took place at the southbound ramp from Northwest 95th Street to I-95. “He got out of the car, approached him and shot at him several times,” said Detective Alvaro Zabaleta, a Miami-Dade police spokesman.

Those of us who admit that we were not there, and do not know what happened when Michael Brown was shot by a policeman in Ferguson, Missouri, seem to be in the minority. We all know what has happened since then -- and it has been a complete disgrace by politicians, the media and mobs of rioters and looters. Despite all the people who act as if they know exactly what happened, nevertheless when the full facts come out, that can change everything. This is why we have courts of law, instead of relying on the media or mobs. But

As we suspected, President Obama tried in his Wednesday-night speech to make it sound like he was doing something new when he, in fact, he is not. Moreover, in describing his response, he made plain that he doesn’t take the threat to the homeland seriously. For a threat his advisers say is greater than that posed by al-Qaeda after 2001, he proposed measures suitable for Yemen and Somalia. No, really — that’s the plan. For starters, the president doesn’t believe the Islamic State is a current threat to the U.S.: “So ISIL poses a threat to the people of Iraq

Rarely has a president faced a greater challenge in establishing his credibility for a new foreign-policy move than Barack Obama did in his nationally televised speech tonight. A CNN poll earlier this week found that just 30 percent of voters thought Obama had presented a clear plan for fighting the Islamic State. While Obama now pledges to ask Congress to train and aid Syrian rebels who would fight the group, voters remember that he backed similar plans in Syria in 2013, when his advisers saw Syrian president Bashar Assad as the major threat. President Obama just announced that he is bringing a counter-terrorism strategy to an insurgency fight. He was at pains to repeat the phrase “counter-terror” four times in a short speech. Noting that ISIL is not a state (partly because the international community thankfully does not recognize it), he declared, “ISIL is a terrorist organization, pure and simple. And it has no vision other than the slaughter of all who stand in its way.” Neither of those sentences, unfortunately, is true. ISIL is an insurgent group that controls enormous territory in Iraq and Syria that it governs. It maneuvers conventional light

Throughout his presidency, President Obama has emphasized one point while talking about Islamist extremists: They are not practicing Islam, he has said, they are perverting it. He took that a step further Wednesday night. While announcing that he´s expanding the campaign against the Islamic State extremist group into Syria, Obama said flatly that this group, which is trying to install a caliphate in the Middle East, "is not Islamic." He didn´t say they are perverting their religion; he said they´re not even part of that religion.
