Tiger Woods stumbles out of
Valhalla, PGA Championship

Yahoo Sports, by Jay Busbee

Courageous or foolish? Noble or misguided? Determined or pigheaded? You can attach a lot of adjectives to Tiger Woods and his ugly performance at the PGA Championship, but you can´t dispute this: the man playing golf right now is a faint shadow of the titan who owned the game a decade ago. There´s really not much to say about Woods´ performance at Valhalla, a +6 stumble that didn´t even look that good. Woods made the decision to play just days after withdrawing from the WGC at Firestone, and set himself up for worlds of second-guessing. His performance this week, in which

Comments:
Ugly. And all of the attention was on him. Meanwhile Phil Mickelson, who played in the same threesome with Tiger and the (today) feckless Paddraig Harrington, managed to end up at -6 after an eagle on 18. And that is the world´s best kept secret tonight.

The good news is that Tiger won´t be around for the rest of the PGA Championship. And maybe for the other majors that wind up the season. And the Ryder Cup. Watson would look senile if he gave Tiger a charity spot after his performance this year, and especially his arrogant hubris today.

OP, there are NO other majors this year, there are only 4 and the PGA is the last, there is the tour championship and also the Ryder Cup both neither is considered a ´major.´
As for Tiger people forget he won ´Player of the Year´ just last year and had a terrific season, there is nothing worse than a injured athlete and you can´t play golf with a creeky back.

Vultures and coyotes just love to attack the injured. So does Jay Busbee. Tiger Woods tried and failed compete at the level required to win the PGA, but just a few weeks ago he was playing with the best in the game and was player of the year last year. Busbee, You´re a hack! Go back to your comic books!

Agreed, no chance of Ryder. Too bad, as much as he became "Tiger! and the rest of the PGA" in the eyes of the media, I always looked forward to seeing him compete in the Ryder cup.

Tiger tried to make a comeback too soon after surgery. For that, who can really blame him? He is, after all, a professional golfer who loves being in his element: competition. His discomfort was obvious yesterday as he gingerly walked the course. I give him credit for toughing it out when he could/should have withdrawn. Now he needs to allow his body to heal completely. The Ryder Cup won´t happen for him this year--I seriously doubt Captain Tom Watson will risk giving him a Captain´s Pick--and the Masters is eight months away. That should be sufficient time for him to get his body and mind together. (And his mind is in worse shape than his body now.)

Rory McIlroy is, as Tiger was before him, a true Alpha #1 player who´ll be difficult to beat for a long time. He´s got such a great attitude, and he can knock the dogwater out of the ball.

Watch out for Jason Day. He´s been building a game that should result in major victories for him soon. He´s not far behind Rory, only lacking the last ingredient, which is the certain knowledge that he´s good enough. But he is.

Jim Furyk continues to impress me. He seems always to be in the hunt. He´s a true professional, and gentleman. And Phil, my favorite player of the past twenty years ... he´s had a poor season, but his game is finally getting to where he wants it. He´ll be right up there Sunday afternoon, and if he manages to pass the several players ahead of him, he´ll have won his sixth major, which would tie him with Trevino and Faldo. He´s still a great player.

I think Tiger may be worried about his sponsors. His endorsements. They go with winners.

As for the others, there are talented players. But Jason Day and Jim Furyk do not have the charisma, that certain something that attracts interest among ordinary fans. I´m sure other golfers appreciate their skill. But there needs to be something more than skill. Tiger had it.

But he is wearing it out now. It started with his personal fall from grace. And now his body is causing him serious problems. We have no idea how much his ferocious body-building and probable use of hormones and steroids (the latter for pain killing if nothing else) have done to him.

Now he is looking rather Obamishly desperate. He´d have been smart to take more time off, practice more doing the moves I´m sure he has been told will be his new back-saving golf moves. He´d have let his back heal with less stress, both physical and emotional. Nothing will stir up a back spasm faster than stress. I know.

Tiger does what Tiger does, for better or for worse. Right now it is looking worse. He can blame no one else.

Representative Mark Sanford of South Carolina surprised the political world on Friday with his announcement that he was ending his engagement to the woman with whom he had an extramarital affair, the revelation of which stunted his rising-star career five years ago. But in interviews last spring, Mr. Sanford and his fiancée, Maria Belen Chapur, indicated that a relationship born in a stew of infidelity, 21st century politics and Twitter-enhanced cable-news sensationalism had, perhaps inevitably, sustained damage. Over the intervening months the relationship collapsed as the two argued over a wedding date, Ms. Chapur said in an interview on Saturday. Ms. Chapur

The report by the California Attorney General´s office is the first time the data has been broken down according to race and income levels. Officials say such data is needed to address the problem. Poverty and suspensions are contributing factors. Overall, more than 250,000 elementary school students missed 10 percent or more of the 2013-2014 school year or roughly 18 or more school days. The absences were highest at the kindergarten and
