James Brady´s Death Was a
Homicide, Medical Examiner Rules

NBC Washington, by Staff

Original Article

Posted By:SoCalGal, 8/8/2014 5:52:46 PM

The death of James Brady -- President Ronald Reagan´s press secretary who was wounded in the attempt on Reagan´s life in March 1981 -- was a homicide, the medical examiner for the Northern District of Virginia ruled Friday. The medical examiner said Brady died as a result of the grievous injuries he suffered 33 years ago, which means that gunman John Hinckley Jr. could be charged with Brady´s murder. (Snip)"There is no statute of limitations on murder in either the federal or state system," Williams said.

FTA:

Any charges also could complicate effort of Hinckley´s family, who are trying to get him a permanent leave from St. Elizabeth´s. Hinckley has been granted repeated weeks-long leaves to stay with family in Williamsburg, Virginia.

If charges will prevent this guy´s walking free among us, I say fine. Go for it.

If nothing else, this ruling of homicide should make sure he stays in St. Elizabeth´s Psychiatric Hospital...where he belongs. He has been give no parole or pardon from his sentence for shooting President Ronald Reagan and his Press Secretary, James Brady. He should be in real prison, but this will have to do. And a murder conviction should seal the deal.

How can any thinking person compare a person´s being shot in the head and suffering "grievous" brain injuries with injuries we might get as we bumble along through life? How many of us have been shot in the head by a would be assassin and ended up with a "life" like Brady´s?

The medical examiner, who knows a lot more about these things than we do, believes Hinckley´s shooting Brady ultimately caused his death. Who are we to argue? What expertise do we bring to the table?

But who wants to live under a system where a mistake you made several decades ago--and served the punishment handed down at the time--can come back and bite you in the butt several decades later?

There needs to be some kind of "statue of limitation" in situations like this.

Attempted assassination of the president of the United States and the "grievour" wounding of another person is dismissed as a "mistake you made", something that should be written off the books?

Turn this on its head. Brady did not die of natural causes, apparently. He died because he was shot by Hinckley. "Homicide" is death caused by another.

There is no statute of limitations for murder. And yes, Hinckley did kill James Brady, even though it took Brady thirty-three years to die. Reagan´s would be assassin robbed Brady of practically everything that mattered in the last three decades of his existence, if his ruined life could even be called an existence. Hinckley, who should have been executed thirty-two years ago, ought to be hanged, drawn, and quartered.

There is no statute of limitations for murder.

Very true, but it is usually applied for when someone dies at or about the time of the incident and the murderer gets away. When found later their are tried for their action. This just feels different. I am not happy with Hinckley, but we generally excuse actions of those of us that lack the mental ability to understand their actions.

Representative Mark Sanford of South Carolina surprised the political world on Friday with his announcement that he was ending his engagement to the woman with whom he had an extramarital affair, the revelation of which stunted his rising-star career five years ago. But in interviews last spring, Mr. Sanford and his fiancée, Maria Belen Chapur, indicated that a relationship born in a stew of infidelity, 21st century politics and Twitter-enhanced cable-news sensationalism had, perhaps inevitably, sustained damage. Over the intervening months the relationship collapsed as the two argued over a wedding date, Ms. Chapur said in an interview on Saturday. Ms. Chapur
