Britain must support America´s
effort in Iraq – if our crippled

Telegraph [UK], by Con Coughlin

Three years after US President Barack Obama turned his back on Iraq by ordering the withdrawal of American troops, he now finds himself having to order military intervention against an Iraqi foe that is infinitely more lethal than anything American forces encountered during their troubled campaign in the aftermath of Saddam Hussein´s overthrow. [Snip] I thought this was a pretty lame excuse at the time--Washington could easily have got a deal if it really wanted one--and now we are reaping the appalling consequences of that decision in the form of the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (Isis), which is

Well the UK could at least send a first class military band to help keep the morale up on the operational air bases and aircraft carriers if they no longer have any fighting forces.

A powerful bomb explosion has rocked the Afghan capital Kabul, sending a plume of smoke over the city and shaking buildings, reports say. Interior ministry sources said the bomb went off near the Supreme Court building on the airport road. One report said a siren alert had been set off at the US embassy, not far from the scene. There has been no information about any casualties. The blast comes amid uncertainty over disputed presidential elections.

The United States government is sending thousands of military troops to the west African nation of Liberia as part of the Obama administration´s Ebola virus-response strategy, the White House said late Monday night. [Snip] ´A general from U.S. Army Africa, the Army component of U.S. Africa Command (AFRICOM), will lead this effort, which will involve an estimated 3,000 U.S. forces.´ Liberia is the hardest-hit of the four west African nations that have confirmed Ebola cases, accounting for more than one-half of the fatalities. The others are Sierra Leone, Guinea and, to a lesser extent, Nigeria.

MANILA--The Philippines has evacuated more than 12,000 people from around the foot of its most active volcano as the crater glows red and authorities warn of a possible eruption. Mount Mayon, known for its near-perfect cone shape in the coconut-growing central Bicol region, has recorded a series of recent quakes and rockfalls, indicating a possible eruption within weeks. "We are now raising the alert status of Mayon Volcano from alert level 2 to 3," Renato Solidum, head of the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs), said on Tuesday.

PARIS--US Secretary of State John Kerry refused be drawn into a "back and forth" with Iran on Monday following Tehran´s assertion that it had rebuffed a US request to coordinate a response to the Islamic State jihadist group. "I´m not going to get into a back and forth. I don´t want to do that. I don´t think that is constructive, frankly," Kerry told reporters at the US ambassador´s residence in Paris after an international conference on Iraq attended by 26 countries. Kerry was speaking after Iran´s supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, said Tehran had vetoed a US invitation to cooperate in fighting

Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, on Monday said his country had rejected a U.S. request for cooperation against the “Islamic State” (IS) because Washington has “dirty hands”. “Right from the start, the United States asked through its ambassador in Iraq whether we could cooperate against [IS],” Khamenei said in a statement on his official website which was quoted by Al Arabiya. “I said no, because they have dirty hands,” said Khamenei, who has the final say on all matters of state in Iran. “Secretary of State (John Kerry) personally asked (Iranian counterpart) Mohammad Javad Zarif and he rejected the request,” said Khamenei,

David Cameron just delivered a masterclass in speech-giving in front of a pro-UK audience in Aberdeen in Scotland. In case you missed it, you can read the full text here. [Snip] He touched on almost every major issue related to the Scottish referendum debate without labouring any points. It makes you wonder why the opposition to the ´Yes´ campaign was primarily run from Labour HQ, which has consistently failed to deliver a solid message, leading to the precarious position our union finds itself in with just 3 days to go until Scots go to the polls.

It said: "I am so excited. Fingers crossed they will win. Because if they do, it could be the turning point towards a better world. They could lead by example". Even if I had never met Vivienne Westwood, I would find the fluffy incoherence of this statement troubling. As that double use of the word "could" only serves to emphasise, it is

There is something very wrong with our politics. Whatever the outcome in Scotland, whatever the result of the by-election in Clacton--this is serious. A certain amount of disaffection is inevitable in a democratic country. The people who do not get what they voted for--or what they feel they deserve, whichever way they voted--will believe that the system has denied them what is rightfully theirs, and that they have somehow been cheated. But this has now gone way, way beyond the kind of anger and disappointment that is inevitable in a system where the will of the majority always dominates. If

Former President George W. Bush put together a 48 member coalition for the Iraq War in 2003. 40 of those members supported military operations and 37 provided some number troops. In April 2003, the list was updated to include 49 countries, though it was reduced to 48 after Costa Rica objected to its inclusion. Of the 48 states on the list, three contributed troops to the invasion force (the United Kingdom, Australia and Poland). An additional 37 countries provided some number of troops to support military operations after the invasion was complete. Despite these numbers the liberal media continues to push the lie

The Department of Labor coordinated with the White House on whether or not to release hidden portions of former Labor Secretary Hilda Solis’ schedule as Solis battled an FBI investigation into her illegal fundraising for President Obama. New emails provided to The Daily Caller from the nonprofit legal research firm Cause of Action show the White House thanking the Department of Labor for “flagging” a public information request for “withheld” portions of Solis’ schedule. The White House then asked for the name of the conservative group making the request — information that Labor officials were eager to give up. As TheDC previously

There’s a lot of competition for Barack Obama’s biggest lie. The man who could assure the American public with a straight face over thirty times that they could keep their doctor under his health plan, when he knew that to be completely false, is one hellluva fibber. But execrable as that serial prevarication may have been, it doesn’t hold a proverbial candle to his most recent whopper — that the Islamic State is not Islamic — not to mention its corollary, or perhaps subsidiary lie, that real religions do not indulge in murder. Islam has been doing that pretty much straight

Is a mutiny happening around President Obama? It appears possible that the president may not have made two of his most recent decisions with complete free will. The announcement that he would delay his immigration initiative until after the election and his formal announcement that the United States would take military action against the Islamic State could have been coerced. Maybe Democratic leaders in Congress and a few members of the Obama team have had it. Could it be that, after President Obama briefed Democrats in Congress on the immigration plan, they balked? Maybe the president was told that, if he
