BEIRUT -- The U.S. embassy in Beirut took to social media Wednesday to deny claims that the United States created and condones the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria. Media reports in Lebanon have claimed that in former U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton´s memoir Hard Choices, she "admitted in her book that the United States created the Islamic States and planned on acknowledging its presence." Clinton´s book has no reference of any kind to U.S. involvement in the creation of ISIS or plans to recognize it as a legitimate organization. The media reports said that the United

Its pretty bad when such a story is actually plausible enough that it warrants a denial.

Friday am caller to Chris Plante argued this same point actually stating that Bush created ISIS. This is their talking point and the denial is the seed. Just trying to take the sting out of the POTUS´ JayVee comment. I´m not sure how this can get any worse for the civilians on the ground. I am quite certain they will not wait for the US to save them.

Newly discovered witnesses to the Aug. 9 fatal shooting of Missouri teen Michael Brown are largely corroborating previous accounts, saying that after a police officer shot the unarmed teen once, the youth threw his hands up and pleaded with the officer to stop shooting. Two construction workers who were nearby at the time have told investigators from the St. Louis County police and the FBI that they "starting hearing pops" and looked over to see Brown staggering and running. There’s a fable in Democratic circles about the time Bernie Sanders, Vermont’s self-described socialist senator, who is visiting Iowa this weekend as he considers a presidential bid, apologized to Bill Clinton. It was right after “Hillarycare,” the health reform plan championed by Clinton’s wife, went down in flames. (snip) Not so, the senator says. “If I run, I would like to win. That’s why I would run,” he told msnbc Thursday. He’s not interested in being a protest candidate, he insists.

OKLAHOMA CITY — A GOP state legislator and the chairman of the Oklahoma Republican Party are standing behind anti-Muslim remarks the lawmaker posted to his Facebook page, and both said Thursday they have no plans to apologize. Leaders with several civil rights organizations have called for state Rep. John Bennett, R-Sallisaw, to apologize after he posted a comment to his Facebook page urging people, especially Christians, to “be wary of the individuals who claim to be Muslim-American.” Bennett also said in his post that the Islamic holy book, the Quran, calls for the killing of non-Muslims. Michelle Obama hasn’t given any indication that she’ll run for political office, but Sen. Mark Kirk is suggesting otherwise. The Illinois Republican sent a fund-raising letter to supporters referring to the “press and rumor mills” that Obama may run for Kirk’s Senate seat in 2016. The letter was first reported by the Chicago-Sun Times and confirmed by Kirk’s office. Kirk even compares Obama’s potential run to speculation in 1999 over whether then-First Lady Hillary Clinton would run for the Senate. She eventually did. So is Kirk looking for supporters to connect the dots?

Here is a multiple-choice question. See if you can get it right. Asking for advice from Dick Cheney on foreign policy is as sensible as: A. Getting advice from Anthony Weiner on appropriate texting B. Asking Ted Cruz for counsel on the virtues of silence C. Expecting Vladimir Putin to say he’s sorry D. All of the above OK, the answer—(D)—is pretty obvious. Maybe too obvious. Maybe this subject is so plainly straw-mannish that it’s not even worth writing about. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid on Wednesday criticized former Vice President Dick Cheney’s views on foreign policy, describing his advice to House Republicans as “terrifying.” “Taking advice from Dick Cheney on foreign policy? That’s a terrifying prospect. We should be learning from our past mistakes, not repeating them,” Reid, D-Nev., said on the Senate floor Wednesday. “They’ve got to be really careful with advice they take from Dick Cheney. Dick Cheney is more responsible than anyone else for the worst foreign policy decision in the history of the country -- the invasion of Iraq,” Reid said.

As we suspected, President Obama tried in his Wednesday-night speech to make it sound like he was doing something new when he, in fact, he is not. Moreover, in describing his response, he made plain that he doesn’t take the threat to the homeland seriously. For a threat his advisers say is greater than that posed by al-Qaeda after 2001, he proposed measures suitable for Yemen and Somalia. No, really — that’s the plan. For starters, the president doesn’t believe the Islamic State is a current threat to the U.S.: “So ISIL poses a threat to the people of Iraq

Rarely has a president faced a greater challenge in establishing his credibility for a new foreign-policy move than Barack Obama did in his nationally televised speech tonight. A CNN poll earlier this week found that just 30 percent of voters thought Obama had presented a clear plan for fighting the Islamic State. While Obama now pledges to ask Congress to train and aid Syrian rebels who would fight the group, voters remember that he backed similar plans in Syria in 2013, when his advisers saw Syrian president Bashar Assad as the major threat. President Obama just announced that he is bringing a counter-terrorism strategy to an insurgency fight. He was at pains to repeat the phrase “counter-terror” four times in a short speech. Noting that ISIL is not a state (partly because the international community thankfully does not recognize it), he declared, “ISIL is a terrorist organization, pure and simple. And it has no vision other than the slaughter of all who stand in its way.” Neither of those sentences, unfortunately, is true. ISIL is an insurgent group that controls enormous territory in Iraq and Syria that it governs. It maneuvers conventional light

Throughout his presidency, President Obama has emphasized one point while talking about Islamist extremists: They are not practicing Islam, he has said, they are perverting it. He took that a step further Wednesday night. While announcing that he´s expanding the campaign against the Islamic State extremist group into Syria, Obama said flatly that this group, which is trying to install a caliphate in the Middle East, "is not Islamic." He didn´t say they are perverting their religion; he said they´re not even part of that religion. Nearly six years into a presidency devoted to ending U.S. wars in the Muslim world, President Obama faced the nation Wednesday night to explain why he has decided to engage in a new one. Obama did not describe his authorization of direct military action to defeat the Islamic State terror group as a conventional war.
