Thursday at the House Foreign Affairs Subcommittee on Africa, Global Health hearing titled, “Combating the Ebola Threat,” Samaritan´s Purse´s vice president of programs and government relations Ken Isaacs said, "Ebola is out of control in West Africa," and then criticized the reporting on the crisis by saying, "I look of the Drudge Report, it can drive a lot of panic." Isaacs said, "I will say Ebola is out of control in West Africa, and we are starting to see panic now. Around the world, people want to know. I don´t know about you folks. I look of the Drudge Report.

Somebody yesterday was talking about everybody talking about "panic". It comes from a need to feel superior because they themselves (like most of us) aren´t panicking.

The truth is, how many Africans, in the area where the disease is running rampant, a) can read English and b) are getting the internet? EXTRA CREDIT - c) how many have heard of or read The Drudge Report?

After stating numerous times last week that the U.S. military action in Iraq and Syria is not a war but a "heightened" counter-terrorism operation, Secretary of State John Kerry said on Sunday that "we´re at war" with terrorists. But he also expressed frustration with the "terminology." "Well, Bob, I think there´s frankly a kind of tortured debate going on about terminology," Kerry told CBS´s "Face the Nation" with Bob Schieffer. "But if people need find a place to land in terms of what we did in Iraq, originally, this is not a war. This is not combat troops on the

A host of media outlets have shown surprise that Pope Francis would officiate the wedding ceremony of couples with a sinful past. On August 29, the Vatican confirmed that Pope Francis would be celebrating the wedding ceremony of 20 couples in St. Peter’s Basilica on September 14. This will be his first time officiating the marriage ceremony as pope, something his immediate predecessor never did. The event will take place just over two weeks before the Vatican will begin a formal summit to study the question of contemporary marriage. WHEN the long, grim history of Christianity’s disappearance from the Middle East is written, Ted Cruz’s performance last week at a conference organized to highlight the persecution of his co-religionists will merit at most a footnote. But sometimes a footnote can help illuminate a tragedy’s unhappy whole. I had to read the penultimate paragraph of Ross Douthat’s New York Times piece on “friendless Middle East Christians” before the enormity of it sunk in. Douthat wrote: If Cruz felt that he couldn’t address an audience of persecuted Arab Christians without including a florid, “no greater ally” preamble about Israel, he could have withdrawn from the event. The fact that he preferred to do it this way says a lot–none of it good–about his priorities and instincts. What ISIS videos and X-rated movies have in common. In his 2008 book Blood and Rage: A Cultural History of Terrorism, the historian Michael Burleigh observes in passing that jihadist martyrdom videos have a similar structure to porn movies. He doesn’t dwell on the point, although he does allude to the climactic “money shot”: in the jihadist case, the moment when the bomber detonates his explosives. In light of the many ISIS propaganda videos that have circulated this summer, Burleigh’s point deserves further analysis and refinement. One of the most striking aspects of the more violent among these videos—especially the

I thought that the recent passage in California of the “yes means yes” bill was extremely problematic — especially for males, who are basically at the mercy of women when it comes to initiating a sexual encounter. The temptation to engage in false accusations for purposes of revenge or pique will be great, and given the temper of the times, rather than an incident becoming a “he said, she said” issue, it is likely to be a “whatever she said goes as the truth” matter. That California law defines consent as “an affirmative, conscious and voluntary agreement to engage in

In April 2003, the list was updated to include 49 countries, though it was reduced to 48 after Costa Rica objected to its inclusion. Of the 48 states on the list, three contributed troops to the invasion force (the United Kingdom, Australia and Poland). Voter turnout during last month´s primary races was a little too good in some counties, Arizona elections officials said Friday. Some precincts in northern Arizona tallied more ballots cast than there are registered voters, the Arizona Capitol Times reported. According to officials, errors made by poll workers and elections officials in Apache and Navajo counties led to the miscalculations. Initial reports from some precincts showed a turnout of anywhere from 200 to 400 percent. In Apache County, the Puerco West precinct reportedly had 100 votes cast, but only 23 voters are registered there. The voter turnout added up to 434
