Tiger Woods is pain-free but struggles

LOUISVILLE – From the outset Tiger Woods wasn´t right. While his troublesome back was a bit stiff, his game, on the other hand, was far from being in good health in Thursday´s first round of the PGA Championship at Valhalla Golf Club. Just four days removed from being forced to withdraw in the final round of the World Golf Championships-Bridgestone Invitational when he dislodged something in his back after landing on his right leg with a thud in a bunker, Woods never found a comfort level on the massive ballpark here despite optimal scoring conditions featuring cloud cover, moderate temperatures and little

Comments:
Couldn´t bear to keep you in suspense for another moment. The Tiger Show continues, sucking all of the air out of yet another big tournament.

He is becoming the ant at the picnic. The you-know-what in the punchbowl. The fly that needs swatting. The pebble in one´s shoe.

If he´s struggling the first day of the tournament, under optimal scoring conditions, he´s not likely to make the cut. Look for him to withdraw tomorrow if there´s a risk of that occurring. Bad back, you know.

Don´t worry. If Tiger´s scores get any worse, he will suddenly start having "back spasms" (or some other ailment that sounds bad but can´t be physically verified). And he´ll just have to drop out (again).

Tiger was one of the all-time greats in his prime. His prime is well behind him now. He needs to just play for fun now. God knows he has enough money to last several lifetimes...

Yes, #7, disgusting. The last couple days of Woods coverage has been as oppressive as I´ve seen, a very high bar.

Sadly, if Woods comes to terms with his limitations, he has plenty of talent to continue winning for fifteen or more years. Don´t for a second write off his career. I can´t begin to tell you how much it pains me to say that.

STOCKHOLM-A Swedish woman has become the world´s first to give birth after having a womb transplant, opening up the possibility for thousands of infertile women to have babies, the doctor in charge of the research project said on Saturday. The unnamed Swede in her mid-30s delivered a healthy baby boy by caesarean section in early September, around two years after receiving a uterus donated by an unrelated, 61-year-old. She was one of seven women who successfully underwent a womb transplant from a live donor – in most cases the recipient’s mother - and subsequently had in vitro fertilization (IVF) treatment.

KYOTO, Japan — North and South Korea have agreed to hold another round of high-level talks after a top-level Northern delegation, including the men thought to be second and third in command behind Kim Jong Un, paid a surprise visit to the South on Saturday. The unusual and unannounced trip — the first such high-level visit in more than five years — comes at a time of intense speculation about North Korea’s leadership, given that Kim, the third-generation leader of the communist state, has not been seen in public for a month. It also comes amid a steady stream of disparaging comments

Officials at the Dallas hospital treating the first Ebola patient diagnosed in the U.S. have conceded that doctors handling the case knew when the patient was initially turned away that he had traveled to Texas from Africa. They said the miscommunication was due to a flaw in the electronic medical record system. But a new statement suggests that doctors were indeed made aware of Duncan´s travel history. Earlier this week, Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital officials said that emergency room doctors who first treated the man, Thomas Eric Duncan, were not aware that had recently arrived from Africa, even though a nurse who questioned

So he´s a single unemployed man with relatives in the US and no compelling reason to return to his native land. That alone is supposed to be cause for immigration scrutiny. In addition, visitors

It’s the “Dawn of the Planet of the Apes.” A New York appeals court next week will consider whether chimps should have the same rights as human beings. The extraordinary proceeding is the result of a lengthy battle by animal-rights activists who argue that animals with human qualities — including chimps — are entitled to human protections, including freedom from captivity. Steven Wise, part of the Nonhuman Rights Project, which is leading the effort, will have to convince a panel of Albany appellate judges that a chimp name Tommy is a “legal person” to get him moved from a cage
