911 dispatcher tells
grandmother to ‘put the
gun down’ during break-in

Washington Times, by Jessica Chasmar

Original Article

A Florida grandmother whose home was broken into says a 911 dispatcher ordered her to put her gun down in the middle of the invasion. NJ Logan, 80, was recovering from hip replacement surgery upstairs in her Holmes Beach home when she heard noises coming from downstairs, EAG News reported. “I kept hearing a commotion, like there were people walking around down there,” she said. “Once I realized it wasn’t my husband, you have no idea how fast you can go. … Honestly, all I wanted was my gun.” (Snip) “When I called 911, she kept saying ‘put the gun down.’ … I said ‘I’ll put the gun down when I see the police,’”

Comments:

The police are focused on the safety of the criminals than on the safety of their victims.

Grandma had the right attitude; I will protect MY safety regardless of YOUR guidance and priorities, Madam Police Dispatcher.

I would hope that the dispatcher was pulled off the job and at the very least has gone through a little more training. IF it is the policy of that Police department to tell someone who is defending themselves, inside their own home, to "put the gun down", I would think this woman would go straight to the local newspaper and shout to the rooftops that she could have been killed if she had listened to the dispatcher.

Brings to mind the mass shooting in the Connecticut grammar school a few years ago. Over 20 children shot. Took the police nearly 30 minutes to show up. The town is a couple of miles in diameter.

When the going gets tough, doesn´t pay to bet on your "town´s finest."

We must understand the police have no duty to protect us as individuals -- just as a group. So a firearm is necessary unless you are superman.
The 911 operator should be questioned about where she/he got the idea to tell a person in danger not to defend her. If it’s the operator’s idea the 911 operator should be terminated. If it goes up the line then terminations should root out the clowns until that idea is completely removed.

Back in the early ‘90s, friends of ours had to relocate temporarily to D.C. Found a small rental house on the edge of the SouthEast quadrant. Late one night, while husband was out of town, wife spotted a pair of urban yutes skulking around, trying windows and door-locks. She called the cops and was told “We’ll check it out as soon as we can. Be watching for us. And how will we recognize you?”

Her reply: “I’ll be the short naked white woman with the 12-gauge, standing on top of two dead [persons of color].”

The cops were there within three minutes.

Also brings to mind the family in CT (Mom, Dad, two daughters) who were brutalized by two ex-cons. When they took the mom to her bank to withdraw her savings and she was able to communicate her situation to the teller, the teller notified the police who subsequently surrounded the house and waited. They just waited. Waited while the house burned down to the ground and the cons escaped. I will never forget that story. The father was able to escape too.

Somebody should tell the criminals that women are no longer "armed and dangerous" but armed and trained.

Granny should receive an NRA senior award and free ammo.

In a recent online survey, one of the questions to gun owners was Do you belong to the NRA ? Most didn´t.

In a speech yesterday at the American Enterprise Institute, Boehner laid out five steps for rebuilding the American economy: tax reform, lower spending, tort reform, fewer regulations and more charter schools. "If we were to do these five things," he said, "you can reset the economic foundation in America for the next two or three generations and beyond." The singular importance of those five ideas lasted about two minutes, until a questioner asked Boehner if it wasn´t perhaps important to address immigration reform. And while he was at it, would he like to talk about how to fix the housing market?

The Kansas Supreme Court ruled Thursday to grant Democrat Chad Taylor’s request to be removed from the Kansas Senate ballot, dealing a blow to Sen. Pat Roberts’s (R-Kan.) chances for reelection this fall as he faces a surging independent candidate. The court’s decision now removes an obstacle from self-funding independent Greg Orman’s path, making Roberts´s reelection race far more complicated and potentially upending the battle for the Senate. Brusied from a bitter GOP primary, polling has shown Roberts was vulnerable in a matchup, but still competitive. But with Taylor out of the race, polling has shown Orman

As it flew over the Rockies at roughly 10.30pm on 2 September (UTC: 3 September at 4.25am), 38 people reported witnessing the “slowest and brightest” meteor shower they’d ever seen. However, not all is as it appears, after Mike Hankey, the American Meteor Society’s Operations Manager explains that it was probably pieces of a spy satellite that had fallen from orbit and had broken up over Colorado and Wyoming – something the Russians deny.
