Nestle to close Valley food plant
Los Angeles Times, by Chris Kirkham and Andrew Khouri

Nestle USA will close a San Fernando Valley production plant that makes Hot Pockets by early October, shifting operations to an existing plant in rural Kentucky where costs are cheaper. The move will eliminate 360 jobs at the Chatsworth plant, which has been making the frozen sandwiches since 1988. A spokeswoman for Nestle USA, based in Glendale, said Wednesday that the consolidation at the Kentucky plant gives the company more room to expand and a more centrally located distribution point. Comments:
That familiar refrain; company flees a high-tax, high-regulation locale, taking jobs with them. But hey, it´s "green" not to have any manufacturing capacity and healthy for the community to not have productive work for people to do.

Nestle will love Mt Sterling, Kentucky. 20 minutes from Lexington, an hour from Cincy, 90 minutes to Louisville, great fishing, the best gun shows in the USA within an easy drive, honest hard working people and a low cost of living. Great choice and welcome to the Commonwealth!

Another uncaring company not being enamored with high taxes and mind boggling regulations. Kentucky needs the move, since the coal mines are being put out of business by the EPA.

I forgot to mention Court Days. They are a Big Deal. Held the 3rd Monday in October and the week-end prior (week-end starts Thursday), Court Days were started in the 18th century and today the whole town is a big open air market selling everything from high end antiques and firearms to dogs and live poultry, just about anything goes.

Stories are legion about the guy who comes to Ct Days with a couple of old double barrels and trades his way into Winchesters and wads of cash.

Yeah Mt Sterling is a cool place in a cool state.

Yes, gives the Valley Girls more time to paint and look at their navels. I should say "we" but I´m retired and not in the mood to worry about things I have no control over. Since all the decisions are made over the hill in LA or up in Sacramento, I really have never felt part of the process although I have voted against any and all increased spending and regulatory excess we see daily. The most irritating is to have all the grocery stores sell you the bags you are forbidden to use as you check out. What a crock.

Nestle´, good on you. Move ´em all out!! When the weenies down at city hall finally figure out who it is that really pays the bills maybe you will consider bringing some of the work back. Until then? Good luck and may the Good Lord take a liken´ to you!

Look at the bright side. The fishing, turkey and deer hunting is way better in Kentucky than in the San Fernando Valley. Thanks to Moonbeam Brown and the Democrats for running another business out of the state. This is the reality of the so called "California Comeback". What they really mean is for all the illegals to comeback to California because this is a sanctuary state and we need more democratic voters here.

Camden — It´s common knowledge among some neighbors on Newton Avenue that Martin Luther King Jr. once had family living on their street, and that the man himself would occasionally visit during the late 1940s. What´s also known is that the house, 940 Newton Ave., has turned into a classic, shameful example of what´s happened to thousands of other homes in Camden — vacant, boarded up and a homing beacon for prostitutes and junkies. (Snip) However, within a month, its interior and backyard are once again carpeted with discarded drug baggies, used needles and used condoms. Thursday was no different, and members

Once saluted as America´s suburb, the San Fernando Valley has fallen on difficult times. Nestle USA announced last month that it would close the Chatsworth plant where Hot Pockets frozen sandwiches have been made since 1988, eliminating 360 jobs as it moves production to Kentucky. Not far behind, Sunkist Growers is moving out after four decades in the Valley, leaving its Sherman Oaks headquarters and heading to Santa Clarita. And adult film production — much of which is based in the Valley — has plummeted, as has mainstream film and television production. And so, at the first-of-its-kind State of the

Washington, DC — The House has passed a bill that could make it a little harder for people to use government welfare payments to buy marijuana in states where the drug is legal. Supporters call it the "no welfare for weed" bill. The bill would prevent people from using government-issued welfare debit cards to make purchases at stores that sell marijuana. It would also prohibit people from using the cards to withdraw cash from ATMs in those stores. The House passed the bill Tuesday evening on a voice vote.
