Post-Nixon, GOP Has Become
Party Of Bigots And Fools

Investor´s Business Daily, by Richard Cohen

Original Article

Richard Nixon is not having an easy time of late. The Washington Post alone has run at least three opinion pieces reminding us all that Nixon was a skunk who 40 years ago this month resigned the presidency and flew off to a short-lived exile in California. There the story of Nixon´s nefariousness supposedly ends. But it does not. He remains to this day a major political figure. It was Nixon who devised and pursued what came to be called the Southern strategy. This was, in the admirably concise wording of Wikipedia, an appeal "to racism against African-Americans." Nixon was hardly the first

Comments:
Wow! Cohen really lets loose his hate and vitriol in this article! His "facts" are so skewed it made my head hurt. He states that: "Watergate and the cover-up were his downfall and they were, no doubt about it, breathtaking abuses of power..." I look forward to his next article on the racist behavior of Holder and Obama and Obama´s breathtaking abuses of power that continue unabated. s/o The IRS scandal is but one example.

I wanted to add that Nixon was a piker compared to Obama. Obama is far worse than Nixon ever dreamed he could be and didn´t carry out the nefarious, malevolent acts that Obama has!

Mr.Cohn the democrats did not show racist the door. I live in the South the old Segregationist were the last to let go of the democrat PARTY. The racist today are in La Raza and the Congressional Black Caucus, democrats just replaced one set of racist for another. Your President and Attorney General where their Racism like a badge of honor.

The only reason you bring up Nixon is because not only has Obama replaced Carter as the worst modern President, he has also replaced Nixon as the most corrupt.

We owe Al Gore the "Father of the Internet" a tremendous amount of gratitude. Without his vision to expand the knowledge base of mankind people would still be in the dark ages.

Read the comments after the article and if you have time take an extra minute to thank the cosmos for giving us Al Gore.

Mr. Cohen, bless his heart, mentioned the Civil Rights Act only once during his race-baiting vitriolic reportage, and in this way:
“Barry Goldwater had voted against the 1964 Civil Rights Act….”.

Interestingly, since he brought it up, Mr. Cohen did not include this additional bit of voting information about the Civil Rights Act:

WV Democrat and former Klansman, Senator Robert Byrd (whom the Democrats still call ‘the conscience of the Senate’), spoke against the Civil Rights Act for 14 hours during a 57 day Democrat filibuster AGAINST the bill.

The bill was finally passed with stronger support among the Republicans than among the Democrats.
House support for the Bill:
80% Republicans supported the bill
61% Democrats

Senate support for the Bill:
82% Republicans supported the bill
69% Democrats

When you run out of arguments as to why your party is better, or why we should vote for your guy, you start calling the opposition names in order to get it to defend itself. This is just a bullying tactic to divert attention from your party´s own failures. Cute, Cohen, but I don´t buy it, especially when it´s the Republicans who are strongest in the defense of Israel and protecting the rights of the unborn. Then again, we consider murdering unborn children the ultimate in bigotry and extremely foolish, since it goes against everything we hold as decent.

There was no "Southern strategy" by Nixon.

The fact is that the Democratic Party, with its eager embrace of the welfare state, drove away conservative Democrats of the South. These southern Democrats saw welfarism as a disgrace and for people who wouldn´t work. Going on welfare was cause for shame. It should be, still.

But the Democrats were all for welfarism because they knew the blacks would be eager recipients and thus a loyal voting bloc.

Which is exactly what came to pass.

Those conservative southern Democrats (those not of the "Yellow Dog" retardation) naturally gravitated to those of like mind, which was the GOP.

Let’s start with what should be an obvious proposition: Holder’s policies and approach to the job were consistent with the person who appointed him — Barack Obama. Lest Republicans forget, Obama was elected and reelected to the presidency by large margins in 2008 and 2012. First, congressional accusations against Holder on the controversial “Fast and Furious” “gun walking” program have been proven factually wrong.
