U.S. policymakers gird for rash
of corporate expatriations

Washington Post, by Lori Montgomery

Washington policymakers are bracing for a wave of corporations to renounce their U.S. citizenship over the next few months, depriving the federal government of billions of dollars in tax revenue and stoking public outrage ahead of the Nov. 4 congressional elections. So far this year, about a dozen U.S. companies — including such well-known brands as Medtronic medical devices and Chiquita bananas — have merged with foreign firms and shifted their headquarters offshore to avoid U.S. taxes, analysts say. Dozens of additional deals are in the works, according to administration and congressional officials, and other companies are quietly contemplating the move. Last

News flash -- the end user pays the tax! The business just passes the expense along to the folks that use the product (or goes out of business).
The US has the highest tax on business of all 1st tier countries. It makes it harder for US companies to compete against foreign companies so they go where the taxes are lower.

After what the demolition-derby democrats did to companies like Delphi, why would businesses want to leave this country? If the businesses are gone, where will all the illegal aliens find work? Community organizers flunked the course on planning ahead.

Interesting article, but note that the CVS CEO met with Chuck Shumer to talk about expatriations when CVS´ main competitor Walgreen´s was contemplating one. Crony capitalism - get the government to stop a competitor from doing something that may give it competitive advantage.

A US company should not have to pay taxes on money made and spent out of country in the first place. That is what causes the expatriation. They still pay US tax on money made in the US. Our tax system is unresolvable. It needs to be destroyed and remade in a basic, simple and fair way.

Obama Orders Boots on the Ground!

We´re at war. We´re putting boots on the ground. We´re not waiting around for the host nation´s government to get its affairs in order, or for a regional coalition to commit first. The president has apparently overcome his reluctance to use the military, his worries about a commitment to intervene without an exit strategy, and his usual reluctance to acknowledge (even implicitly) that his administration was wrong when it assured us that there was nothing much for us to worry about. Of course, the enemy the president has boldly and unhesitatingly sent our troops to fight is the Ebola virus. Aren´t there

The summer lull in illegal border crossings from Mexico is about to give way to a rush of even more immigrants in a frenzy of fear that Washington is about to shut the door, according to several Hispanic leaders. In Honduras, for example, U.S. threats coupled with those from local leaders warning about the dangers of crossing the border have instead reenergized children and adults to run fast to America and pay inflated fees to “coyotes” to get them there. “As I am speaking, hundreds of children are trying to leave Honduras,” said Jose Guadalupe Ruelas, a Honduran leader who advocates

Throughout debate and final passage of Obamacare, the president and liberal allies in Congress assured the American people that the expansive healthcare law would not fund elective abortions. “[U]nder our plan, no federal dollars will be used to fund abortions,”President Obama declared in 2009. Today, the Government Accountability Office (GAO) confirms that’s just another broken promise. Here are three things you need to know about abortion and Obamacare: 1. Obamacare sends federal taxpayer dollars to health plans that include coverage of elective abortion. The GAO identified 1,036 Obamacare exchange plans across the country that cover elective abortion while remaining eligible for taxpayer subsidies.

What is the enduring lesson of the 2003 invasion of Iraq, when the Bush administration overestimated and, in some cases, exaggerated the threat posed by Saddam Hussein? Some say it´s to be skeptical of government officials who are making the case for war. I say the legacy should be skepticism toward government officials, period – all of them. Their hidden agendas can shade the case for peace as well as war, which might explain why there´s no consensus among so-called experts about the threat posed today by ISIS. Let’s start with the end. When it’s over — when you make it through the marathon that is Ken Burns’s beautiful, seven-part documentary “The Roosevelts: An Intimate History,” which begins Sunday night on PBS — you may find yourself with a lingering, nebulous grief. You’re sorry it’s over. You’re sorry they’re over. You’re sorry a certain expression of American ideals is, or often appears to be, completely over. My study habits haven’t improved since college; like an idiot, I put off watching all 14 hours of “The Roosevelts” until I absolutely had to watch them on a deadline binge this week.

Washington -- A CIA assessment puts the number of ISIS fighters at possibly more than three times the previous estimates. The terror group that calls itself the Islamic State "can muster between 20,000 and 31,500 fighters across Iraq and Syria," a CIA spokesman told CNN on Thursday. Analysts and U.S. officials initially estimated there were as many as 10,000 fighters, including those who were freed from prisons by ISIS, and Sunni loyalists who have joined the fight as the group advanced across Iraq. "This new total reflects an increase in members because of stronger recruitment since June following battlefield successes and the declaration

Watch your back, Baghdadi. As part of his expanded campaign against the Islamic State, President Obama has authorized the U.S. military to target Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, the driving force behind the violent extremist group, it was reported Thursday. Until now, restrictions imposed by the President prevented the military from going after the group’s leaders. But the limits were lifted as part of Obama’s new offensive against the group, also known as ISIS, the Washington Post reported. A Pentagon spokesman on Thursday acknowledged a shift in strategy but declined to comment whether Baghdadi was

Masipa also found the double amputee track star guilty of one of three firearms charges. He was convicted of firing a gun in a restaurant — an incident not related to the Steenkamp shooting — but not of possession of ammunition or a separate count that he fired out of the sunroof of a

Could President Obama’s military move against ISIS derail the Republican freight train that appeared to be barreling toward victory in the midterm elections? It’s possible, but not very likely. Until Wednesday night’s speech, the president was taking a political beating on foreign policy that had a toxic effect on his approval ratings. And that was a major drag on vulnerable Democrats, especially those red-state senators trying to hang on and keep the chamber from tipping to the GOP. But now, whether or not Obama is leading from behind, as his critics say, he has committed to using U.S. military power against the terrorists.

Throughout his presidency, President Obama has emphasized one point while talking about Islamist extremists: They are not practicing Islam, he has said, they are perverting it. He took that a step further Wednesday night. While announcing that he´s expanding the campaign against the Islamic State extremist group into Syria, Obama said flatly that this group, which is trying to install a caliphate in the Middle East, "is not Islamic." He didn´t say they are perverting their religion; he said they´re not even part of that religion.
