Rebel Leader Justin Amash
Wins Big In Michigan

Rebellious Republican Rep. Justin Amash has won his re-election battle in Michigan’s 3rd district against his challenger Brian Ellis, a blow to the GOP Establishment which had put significant resources into the race. Ellis conceded the race as Amash had 55 percent of the vote and Ellis had 44 percent with 44 percent of the precincts reporting. Allies of Speaker John Boehner had rallied for pro-establishment candidate Republican Brian Ellis and to take out Amash, the first lawmaker to vote against Boehner for speaker on the House floor in January 2013. Ellis, a Grand Rapids businessman, loaned his campaign over $1 million and

I know nothing about Rep Amash beyond what is printed here. I post as another example of "establishment" taking on a sitting congressman not liked by House leadership.

Brian Ellis ran a very negative campaign against Amash. Liberals do not like Amash and they even admitted in an mlive article that they tried to get dems to vote for Ellis because they can´t work with Amash.

Ted Cruz endorsed Amash, and I think that really helped the campaign.

Congressman Amash is of Palestinian descent, the "son of a wealthy Palestinian tool importer who immigrated to the United States with the sponsorship of a Christian church", according to the Almanac of American Politics.

In 2012, the National Journal rated him 56 percent liberal, 45 percent conservative. His most liberal rating was in foreign policy, 59-40.

He was one of just 8 congressman, 4 from each party, to vote against funding the Israeli missile defense system, Iron Dome.

If you think that our principal enemies are the Republican establishment, you will probably like Amash; if you think the Hamas folks and other terrorists are worse, you may prefer other Republicans

AUSTIN, Texas -- Last weekend, Texas Governor Rick Perry defended his support for a 2001 bill that granted in-state tuition to illegal immigrants for Texas colleges and universities. As reported by Breitbart Texas, in a keynote conversation at The Texas Tribune Festival, Perry was asked directly by Texas Tribune CEO and Editor-in-Chief Evan Smith if he now believed the bill should be overturned, and Perry answered "No," also commenting, "I still think in 2001 it was the right thing to do in the state of Texas." After Perry´s remarks hit the news, public reaction was swift. Breitbart Texas´ article on

Even though Republicans may take back the Senate by running against amnesty, former Florida Governor Jeb Bush pushed amnesty legislation while stumping for North Carolina Republican Senate candidate Thom Tillis on Wednesday. Bush, according to the New York Times, reportedly said that comprehensive immigration reform "will restore and sustain economic growth for this country." And even though a recent Gallup poll found that illegal immigration is now the top concern among Republicans, Bush said that if immigration reform is "framed in that way, I don’t think there’s a big debate in the Republican Party about the need to do this."

Both made remarks placing blame for partisan gridlock on Democratic leadership of the Senate, but it is their comments on the shutdown that are generating the buzz.

I know a lot of people are giddy at the prospect of Republicans taking the Senate this November, but that’s becoming less and less likely. It’s not because Democrats are rallying around a particular mission or set of candidates; it’s because Republicans and conservatives aren’t. It seems like I’m always writing on issues no one wants to hear are mistakes, such as messaging or social issues. But I don’t care. These things have to be said. If these columns are received like a gaseous cousin on a long car trip through the desert, so be it. Crack a window… If things continue on their current course, the GOP will not retake the Senate.

How can Republicans recapture the U.S. Senate from Harry Reid and the Democrats? A new Politico poll points to a winning strategy — if GOP leaders have the courage to use the remaining seven weeks to nationalize the elections around one game-changing issue. Under the headline, “GOP has edge on immigration in midterms,” Politico offered a surprising review of battleground House and Senate races. The generally liberal publication found that two-thirds of likely voters disapprove of President Obama’s handling of the issue — and that even independent voters trust the GOP over the Democrats on the subject.

We’re being had. Again. For six years, President Obama has endeavored to will the country into accepting two pillars of his alternative national-security reality. First, he claims to have dealt decisively with the terrorist threat, rendering it a disparate series of ragtag jayvees. Second, he asserts that the threat is unrelated to Islam, which is innately peaceful, moderate, and opposed to the wanton “violent extremists” who purport to act in its name. Now, the president has been compelled to act against a jihad that has neither ended nor been “decimated.” The jihad, in fact, has inevitably intensified under his counterfactual

Not this time. The U.S.-led air campaign against the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria doesn´t have a name. "I know of no plans at this point to name it," Pentagon spokesman Rear Adm. Political pollsters have a tough job. They have to create formulas to determine if the person they are interviewing is likely to vote, and it is within this calculation that their reputations are made. Typically, those who are likely to vote in an off-year election are pretty set. They are the people who always vote in elections — with some motivated by specific issues. In a wave election, the number of those motivated by specific issues escalates, changing the electoral landscape as the candidates who are beneficiaries of this increased participation sweep to victory. The 2014 election is rapidly looking like something new
