Kerry: US investment can
fight extremism in Africa

BBC News [UK], by Staff

Original Article

Posted By:Attercliffe, 8/6/2014 2:09:29 AM

US investment in Africa is fighting extremism there, US Secretary of State John Kerry has told the BBC. In an interview with BBC´s HARDtalk, Mr Kerry said stability from business projects was countering extremist ideologies and militant movements. He spoke as more than 40 African heads of state gathered in Washington at the first US-Africa Leaders´ Summit. Earlier on Tuesday, US companies pledged to invest $14bn (£8.3bn) in the continent. Mr Kerry told the BBC´s Zeinab Badawi that US investment in Africa was developing infrastructure, bringing wealth, and improving the standard of living of many Africans.

Kerry doesn´t think the money will find it´s way to the extremists aka terrorists in these third world countries. Remember when we had a Sec´y of State named Halfbright? This one is about a quarterbright.

Investment demands stability and Zippy et al are in the business of creating Chaos.
Obama et al have been creating the very extremists they pretend to condemn.

This advice is coming from the guy who thought Israel should declare peace and let hamas keep their rockets and tunnels so they could kill hundreds of Israelis at a moments notice.

Hey John, Nigeria has a $26,000,000 (USD) check waiting for you, don´t forget to stop and pick it up.

Why? So some future Dem President can blow it all off like Obama did with the $trillion investment in Iraq? Notwithstanding that there is a zero chance that any investment there would ever bare any positive fruit. These are the cannibal clowns that turned a prosperous Rhodesia into a starving hellhole after all.

Dried-up dams, boats at bottom of

Barren land, dams with no water reaching them, boats anchored in dried-up reservoirs and shrinking lake levels. These extraordinary images show the devastating impact the worst droughts in decades is having on the American West - and forecasters have predicted it is likely to continue. Around 430,000 acres of land will be left fallow in California - because there hasn´t been enough rain or snow coming from the nearby mountain ranges. Farmers - who are daily facing the prospect of losing their jobs and everything they have - are hoping for relief this winter, but the situation still remains dire.

Tony Blair is right. Before you harrumph and turn away, listen to his argument. It is--in short--that there is a global threat from militant Islamism. That it is spreading--and it is getting worse. And that we must act. It is clear that there is a fundamental problem with radical Islamism; clear that it is deep; clear that the solutions are not easy or presently to hand; clear that this is the work of a generation, not an election cycle; and clear--most important of all--that this is "our" challenge and not simply "theirs". For the past few weeks, we have witnessed the grotesque spectacle of three Britons paraded before us by the Islamic State (Isil), one murdered on camera, another on his knees and threatened with the same, and the third compelled to recite propaganda. [Snip] But imagine if Isil held as many as 50 of our own. How would we then respond? Would we still have despatched Tornados over Iraqi skies and urged the SAS into action? For Turkey, this is no hypothetical scenario. In June, Isil seized 46 Turkish diplomats as it blitzed through the northern Iraqi city of Mosul. Faced with

Turkey has begun to close some of its border crossings with Syria after about 130,000 Kurdish refugees entered the country over the weekend. On Sunday Turkish security forces clashed with Kurds protesting in solidarity with the refugees. Some protesters were reportedly trying to go to Syria to fight Islamic State (IS). Most refugees are from Kobane, a town threatened by the advancing militants. IS has taken over large swathes of Iraq and Syria in recent months. Before the latest influx, there were already more than one million Syrian refugees in Turkey. They have fled since the start of the uprising against Syrian President Bashar

Kurdish fighters have issued an urgent call to arms amid warnings of an impending massacre by the Islamic State terrorist group in northern Syria. The Kurdish People´s Protection Unit (YPG) has been locked in a fierce battle with IS and other Islamist groups almost since the start of Syria´s civil war. Despite being relatively isolated and receiving no foreign aid from any states the YPG has proven perhaps the most effective force in pushing back against IS. But as the jihadis´ focus shifts to consolidating power in northern Syria the Kurds have found themselves under fiercer attack than ever.

The attack made France the first foreign country to publicly add military muscle to United States airstrikes against the terrorist group, which has drawn criticism around the world and in a unanimous UN Security Council resolution for its barbarity. French President Francois Hollande said the target was "entirely destroyed." Dozens of extremist fighters were also killed in the four strikes, according to Iraq´s military spokesman.

Western states defeated a Russian proposal on Friday to remove Syria´s alleged past nuclear activities from the agenda of meetings of the UN atomic agency, diplomats said. But in a vote that highlighted how polarizing the global political debate has become, China supported Russia´s initiative while only about half of the nations on the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) board - 17 out of 35 - voted against. Western diplomats argued that Damascus should be kept under pressure to cooperate with the IAEA´s long-stalled inquiry, even though this has hardly advanced in the last three years as the country descended into bloodshed.

I know a lot of people are giddy at the prospect of Republicans taking the Senate this November, but that’s becoming less and less likely. It’s not because Democrats are rallying around a particular mission or set of candidates; it’s because Republicans and conservatives aren’t. It seems like I’m always writing on issues no one wants to hear are mistakes, such as messaging or social issues. But I don’t care. These things have to be said. If these columns are received like a gaseous cousin on a long car trip through the desert, so be it. Crack a window… If things continue on their current course, the GOP will not retake the Senate.

It was once said, “religion is designed to comfort the afflicted and to afflict the comfortable.” Jesus’ parables – short stories with moral lessons – were likewise designed to afflict, to draw us in but leave us uncomfortable. These teachings can be read as being about divine love and salvation, sure. But, their first listeners – first century Jews in Galilee and Judea – heard much more challenging messages. Only when we hear the parables as Jesus’ own audience did can we fully experience their power and find ourselves surprised and challenged today. Here are four examples of Jesus’ teachings that everybody gets wrong: 1.

Three and a half months have come and gone and the Pentagon has offered no clarity on what happened to alleged Army deserter and Taliban collaborator Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl. Fellow soldiers and other critics fear the military’s now-delayed investigation is shaping up to be a whitewash. The case has become a political powder keg for President Obama. Since he traded five imprisoned Taliban leaders for Bergdahl, the US Government Accountability Office has declared the swap illegal, and nearly two dozen House Democrats have joined Republicans in officially condemning the move for making “Americans less safe.”
