‘Pro-Troop’ Charity Pays Off

In February 2013, Move America Forward announced an ambitious fundraising goal. The charity, launched in part by one of the most prominent figures in the Tea Party movement, had adopted the 800 Marines in a battalion fighting in Afghanistan and wanted to send them all care packages. “For some troops, these care packages are the only mail they will receive all year,” the group said in one email solicitation. The charity later described the fundraising drive as a rousing success: In less than five weeks, all 800 Marines in a 1st Marine Division battalion nicknamed Geronimo were sent care packages and notes

This is just plain wrong. If they are found to be involved in illegal activity, then they should be prosecuted.

FTA: But experts on campaign finance and taxation say Move America Forward’s practices may trigger more than bad ratings. Its activities could violate tax rules, which prohibit charities from engaging in partisan politics or overly benefiting the people who run them.

Then how about an equally zealous exposé on HillPac and the Clinton Foundation?

Look up the Sal Russo who´s mentioned in the story. His consultant firm has a history of pulling in at least a third of the contributions to PACs.

Just donate money directly to your candidate. There´s really no need to pay for $50,000 stays at resorts for these people.

IIRC and go8ing back many years - 501C(3) organizations only had (at that time) to donate 5% as a minimum to maintain their tax-exempt status. The charity I was involved with was exceedingly generous & funded other charities with an eye to their management expenses. The only management fees we paid were to the investment bank that handled the account (1-1/2%) & the auditors - which was a very reasonable flat fee. To use donated $$$ for hotels, etc., is abusive - I don´t care who they are.

A few years back there was a patriot group in our area who was doing a picnic/white elephant sale and was set to donate the proceeds to Wounded Warrior. Wounded Warrior Org said because God was mentioned in the materials -- i.e. our country was founded on Godly principles---that the icon and name of the Wounded Warrior organization could not be used on any of the promotional; materials or at the the picnic. They stated they did not want any negative feedback. Needless to say, they also did not receive the proceeds.

Forbes, by John R. Graham    Original Article

If there is one thing that the Administration and Democratic candidates have in their favor going into the mid-term elections, it is that election day is November 4, and Obamacare’s second open enrollment begins on November 15. If the dates were flipped, there is little doubt that voters affected by Obamacare would wreak havoc on the politicians who imposed the Rube Goldberg contraption of exchanges on them. Despite having just tossed another $60 million out the window “to help consumers navigate their health care coverage options in the Health Insurance Marketplace,” the Administration will likely face an even more bemused and

It’s official. Jimmy Carter is no longer the worst president in American history. The crown of shame has been passed from the former peanut farmer to our weak, lead-from-behind community organizer, whose lack of foreign policy experience and gravitas has come into full embarrassing display. And with ISIS on the march — and now threatening to assassinate Pope Francis — President Obama’s abysmal approval ratings have Democrats ducking for cover. A CBS News/New York Times poll released yesterday — which shows approval ratings for Obama’s foreign policy at a record low 34 percent, with a whopping 58 percent disapproving — delivered a

One of the first major scandals of the Obama administration may not get resolved until after Barack Obama leaves office — at least, if Eric Holder has anything to say about it. Politico’s Josh Gerstein reported last night on an effort by the Attorney General to keep the issue of executive privilege and Congressional subpoenas from resolution, even after a federal judge ordered Holder and the Department of Justice to submit documents to the House Oversight Committee. If successful, it might push the appeals process so far out that Obama will leave office before Congress can exercise its oversight responsibilities

CAMP ZIOUANI, Golan Heights -- For four decades, a multinational United Nations mission has quietly monitored the sleepy Golan Heights - providing a symbol of stability between bitter enemies as it enforced a truce between Israel and Syria. But as Syria has plunged into civil war and the peacekeepers themselves have become targets of al-Qaida-linked rebels, the U.N. observer force has begun to fall apart, leaving its future - and the prospects for ever establishing peace in this rugged area of the Middle East - in doubt. Since Israel seized the Golan Heights from Syria in the 1967 Mideast war, a withdrawal

The aircraft, Tu-95 strategic bombers code-named Bear by NATO, flew northwest, skirting Iceland, Greenland, and Canada. Once beyond Canada, the two lumbering, propeller-driven bombers settled on a heading straight toward the United States. Their goal was a "launch box" off the coast of the U.S. from which, during wartime, they would fire nuclear-tipped cruise missiles towards American cities and military bases.
